LDTD-MS/MS can be used as a high-speed analysis technique to accurately quantify caffeine in various types of beverages with minimal sample preparation. The method yielded overall recoveries for caffeine of 97–107% in four matrix sources at three concentration levels with less than 5% RSD. The method is consistent with AOAC 979.08 Official Method of Analysis results, allowing accurate results to be obtained with much higher regulatory sample capacity.

The method's precision is affected by the reproducibility of manually depositing a 2 μL droplet accurately into the bottom centre of the LazWell well. Lower detection capability would require less dilute samples, but high caffeine concentrations in beverages necessitate a 1:50 dilution to avoid detector saturation.
