The laser heating lines caused significant microstructural changes in the aluminum alloy, leading to improved fatigue crack growth resistance. The best results were obtained when two laser lines were applied on both lateral surfaces of the specimen, due to the combined effects of microstructural changes and induced compressive residual stresses.

The study used a Yb:?ber laser beam defocused to generate a laser spot diameter of 2 mm, with 200 W power and a laser speed of 2 mm/s. Two laser lines were applied over fatigue C(T) specimens in two different forms: on only one and on both lateral specimen surfaces.
