To present an ultra-thin SOI waveguide to a metal-dielectric-metal plasmonic waveguide based on a lens-funnel structure consisting of truncated Luneburg lens and metallic parabolic funnel.

The lens-funnel structure, consisting of the truncated Luneburg lens surrounded by a metallic parabolic funnel, effectively couples an ultra-thin SOI waveguide to an MDM plasmonic waveguide. The average coupling efficiency of the designed coupler in the C-band is 82.1%, with the coupling efficiency higher than 69% in the 1260–1675-nm bandwidth.
研究不足
The proposed structure is suitable for SOI waveguides with thin guiding layers, and designing couplers is more challenging for ultra-thin waveguides due to their larger width compared with conventional SOI waveguides. The lens’s imperfection may reduce the average coupling efficiency by up to 5% in the C-band.
