The study demonstrates significant performance enhancement of BHJ OSCs by incorporating a photon upconverter layer, with efficiency enhancements ranging from ~16.9% to ~30.8% for different OSC materials. The effect of photon upconversion and localized surface plasmon resonance is found to be non-linear, with a modest performance boost predicted for the best performing OSC material. The possibility of extending efficiency beyond 16% using concentrated sunlight and a practically realizable upconverter layer is also discussed.
