研究目的
Investigating the development and performance of the first Yb:CaF2 planar waveguide laser using Liquid Phase Epitaxy for high-power and ultrashort-pulse applications around 1 μm.
研究成果
The first Yb:CaF2 LPE-based waveguide laser was demonstrated, delivering 114 mW at 1037 nm with a slope efficiency of 12.9%. The optical gain in such a planar waveguide was measured at 1057 nm. The study paves the way for the development of compact high-repetition-rate ultrashort-pulse oscillators at ~1 μm.
研究不足
The power scaling was limited by the available pump power. Further improvement should focus on reducing waveguide propagation losses and optimizing the growth procedure to reduce oxygen content and allow higher Yb3+ doping levels.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study utilized Liquid Phase Epitaxy (LPE) to grow high-optical-quality single-crystalline Yb:CaF2 thin films on bulk CaF2 substrates. Spectroscopic studies were conducted to analyze the coordination of Yb3+ ions.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Yb:CaF2 single-crystalline thin films were grown on undoped non-oriented CaF2 substrates. The actual Yb3+ concentration was determined from small-signal transmission measurements.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Equipment included a Ti:Sapphire laser for pump-probe measurements, an optical spectrum analyzer for luminescence spectrum measurement, and a confocal microscope for surface roughness inspection.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The growth process involved homogenization at 50 °C above the saturation temperature, followed by cooling. The laser setup included a CW Ti:Sapphire laser as the pump source, with the laser cavity formed by a flat pump mirror and output couplers.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The luminescence decay was analyzed using a single-exponential fit. The pump absorption and net gain were calculated using a rate-equation model.
