To overcome the limitations of current Pb-based organic–inorganic halide perovskite solar cells with unsatisfactory long-term stability by fabricating Ag3BiI6-based Pb-free rudorffite thin films with perfect surface coverage.

The combination of DC and RA methods successfully suppressed charge recombination in Ag3BiI6 rudorffite light harvesters, leading to a device with an enhanced PCE of 1.08%. This method provides a promising pathway for developing Pb-free inorganic Bi-based solar cells.

The diode ideality factor (n) value and Urbach energy (Eu) are still relatively high compared with well-made organic/inorganic hybrid type perovskites. Process engineering and/or additional compositional engineering on Ag3BiI6 absorber should be made to further reduce non-radiative recombination rate of this photoactive layer.
