To present a mode-matching technique formulation for the rigorous electromagnetic analysis of a circular waveguide bifurcated into circular and coaxial domains.

The MMT-based technique can accurately model a class of cylindrical waveguide devices in an efficient computational fashion when compared with other CEM approaches, such as the FEM. The mathematical formulation developed unifies a number of previous modal-coupling models under a generalized MMT formalism.

The technique requires a lot of analytical effort if high order fields are needed to improve the accuracy of the solution and can only be used to model waveguides with small cross-sections.
