The study identified key parameters influencing the quality of the melted surface layer in SLM of copper powder, established a mathematical relation between surface roughness and SLM conditions, and determined a range for varying roughness, porosity, and ultimate compressive strength. A new approach to form a single surface layer within the SLM technology, including roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing modes, was proposed to improve article quality.
