研究目的
To compare the performance of solar tower (ST) and photovoltaic (PV) technologies for solar to electrical energy conversion in terms of technical and economic parameters.
研究成果
The ST plant generates more annual energy but has higher costs and land requirements compared to the PV plant. The PV plant stands out due to its better economic performance and land use efficiency, making it more suitable for regions with high GHI and DNI.
研究不足
The study is limited to a specific location (Tabuk city) and may not be directly applicable to regions with different solar resources. The economic analysis assumes certain costs and PPA escalation rates which may vary in reality.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involves designing a 100 MW ST and PV plant for a region with high DNI and GHI. The ST plant is optimized for solar multiple and thermal energy storage hours, while the PV plant is optimized for the distance between parallel PV arrays.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
The location selected is Tabuk city in Saudi Arabia due to its good solar resources. Data on GHI, DNI, and temperature are collected from King Abdullah City of Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE).
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Includes heliostats for ST plant, PV modules for PV plant, inverters, and thermal energy storage systems.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The ST plant design includes a heliostat field, TES system, and power block. The PV plant design includes PV modules arranged in parallel arrays with a single azimuthal axis tracking system.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Performance comparison based on land use factor, performance ratio, SEE, energy output, water usage, LCoE, NPV, and net capital cost.
