研究目的
To investigate spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) features of untreated circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH), and the optical density (OD) of the associated subretinal fluid (SRF).
研究成果
CCH displays typical findings on SD-OCT. ODR is a new important tool in the differential diagnosis of choroidal tumors and should be considered for enhancing the accuracy of diagnosing CCH. This benefit is especially relevant for cases in which the presentation of CCH is atypical.
研究不足
The retrospective nature of this multicenter study precluded standardization of the OCT acquisition protocols. Sufficient image quality and the presence of SRF allowed for ODR evaluation only in 18 cases. The technique for measuring ODR is limited by the need to identify the posterior border of the vitreous which is used as baseline medium.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
This international retrospective multicenter study included 34 patients with symptomatic CCH imaged on SD-OCT. CCH surface, size, and overlying retinal changes and OD ratio (ODR) were evaluated.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Patients' records from January 1, 2009, to October 31, 2017, were reviewed for untreated cases of CCH at 5 study sites.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
SD-OCT (Spectralis, Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany), ImageJ for ODR measurements.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the tumor on SD-OCT, including configuration of the anterior choroidal surface, changes of the overlying neurosensory retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), and the presence and structural appearance of SRF.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 23. Significance was defined as a type alpha error probability < 0.05.
