To demonstrate a dichroic nanocomposite film with outstanding optical properties by introducing cellulose nanowhiskers (CNWs) into PVA iodine complex.

The addition of CNWs leads to an enhancement in thermal stability and mechanical properties. The transmittance and degree of polarization improved as the draw ratio and the content of CNWs increased. This is attributed to the microstructural change of PVA crystals such as enhanced orientation and crystallinity of PVA.

The study employed significantly simplified processing conditions, reducing the iodine treatment time and the extension ratio of film compared to commercial production conditions.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
CNWs were isolated via acid hydrolysis and embedded into PVA film. The film was then elongated and dyed with iodine.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) powder was used as the source for CNWs.

CNWs were isolated via acid hydrolysis, embedded into PVA film, the film was immersed in I2/KI solution and drawn in boric acid solution.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Size distribution of CNWs was evaluated using a particle size analyzer. Thermal characteristics were investigated using DSC. The crystallinity of samples was calculated using the heat of fusion.
