The ZnO/Ag–Ag2O microstructures synthesized via a novel method showed enhanced photocatalytic degradation efficiency for organic pollutants like Congo red and methylene blue under UV light. The method offers advantages such as reduced processing temperature and time, and the photocatalysts demonstrated excellent stability and reusability.

1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study combined precipitation reaction in the ethanol/water mixing reaction layer and room-temperature self-assembly to prepare 3D pompon-like Zn(OH)
2:68(SO4)16·58H2O microspheres, which were then converted to ZnO/Ag–Ag2O microstructures. Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Zinc sulfate monohydrate, ammonium hydroxide solution, ethanol, silver nitrate, sodium borohydride, barium sulfate, and Congo red were used.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
SEM (Quanta 200 FEG), TEM (H-7650 Hitachi), XRD (D/Max-RB), UV–Vis spectrophotometer (Cary 60), ICP-OES, and diffuse reflectance spectra (Hitachi-4100 UV–Vis spectrophotometer).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The synthesis involved ultrasonic treatment, mixing with ammonium hydroxide, self-assembly, calcination, and decoration with Ag–Ag2O nanoparticles. Photocatalytic degradation experiments were conducted under UV light.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The degradation efficiency was calculated using UV–Vis spectrophotometry, and kinetic analysis was performed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models.
