研究目的
To examine strategies for scrutinizing images which affect diagnostic performance of medical practitioners in diagnosing diabetic retinopathy (DR) via an eye-tracking study and to recommend a scanning strategy for fast and accurate diagnosis of DR.
研究成果
The study found that practitioners use mainly two types of strategies, dwelling and tracing, for diagnosing DR. Dwelling was found to lead to accurate and fast diagnosis irrespective of the expertise of a subject. A recommended scanning strategy was derived, prescribing the order in which retinal zones should be scrutinized and the required dwelling for each zone. This strategy was found to lead to accurate and fast diagnosis.
研究不足
1. The study was conducted with a small number of images (40), which may not represent the actual number of cases a typical reader or expert handles in a day. 2. The study is limited to lesions related to early detection of DR, and the optimal scanning strategy may not be effective for advanced stages of DR.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
An eye-tracking study was conducted to understand strategies used by subjects with varying degrees of expertise in DR screening. The study involved detecting two types of lesions in the early phase of DR.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
A total of 56 subjects with 0 to 18 years of experience participated in the study. A dataset of 145 abnormal and 50 normal fundus images was used, with a subset of 40 images selected for the study.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Tobii X2-30 eye tracker (sampling rate 30Hz) with a
4:6” display screen was used. A software tool was developed in MATLAB 2 for the study. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Participants were asked to detect DR from 40 images. Eye positions were classified into fixation, saccade, and glissade using an adaptive algorithm.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The study analyzed gaze patterns, dwell duration, and track length to understand scanning strategies and their impact on diagnostic accuracy.
