研究目的
Preparation of transparent calcium and bismuth borate oxide glasses containing Nb5+ ions can be used as a neutron radiation shield and determine refractive index with different methods for this glass.
研究成果
Bismuth borate glass containing a few niobium pentoxide can be used as a protective shield of neutrons. The prepared samples were found to be in pure non crystalline phase. The groups like BO3 and BO4 act as network structural groups while Bi2O3 and Nb2O5 appeared in interstitial positions. The refractive index was calculated in two methods and the resulting values were very close to the values obtained from the IR and UV–Vis. In addition, high refractive index values make this glass a candidate for further nonlinear studies as well as luminescence characterization.
研究不足
The study focuses on the preparation and characterization of niobium bismuth borate glasses for neutron shielding applications, but does not explore the long-term stability or durability of these materials under radiation exposure.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Niobium bismuth borate glasses with composition 60B2O3–20CaO–(20 ? x)Bi2O3–xNb2O5, where (x is in mol%, 0 ≤ x ≤ 10), have been prepared using conventional melt-quenching technique.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
The chemical mixtures were melted in an electric furnace sited at 1000 ± 50 °C, for more than 1 h, and then all melts were poured suddenly into the air one by one.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Per-cooled plates of copper were used to fast the cooling rate. Parts of the bulk samples were milled to be suitable to the spectra examinations, such as XRD, FTIR, and UV–Vis Rigaku MiniFlex, Japan, Cu Kα, X-ray powder diffractometer was used for XRD measurements. For FTIR, Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectrometer in the range from 4000 to 400 cm?1 was used. Optical UV–Vis absorption measurements were carried out in the range 200–2500 nm measured by Genway 6405 UV–Vis spectrophotometer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The structure of each sample was studied by XRD, FTIR, and UV spectra chart analysis.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The refractive index of each sample was estimated by charts of UV–Vis and FTIR, in addition to an empirical method.
