研究目的
Investigating the formation of gold nanorods (GNRs) on gold–poly(methyl methacrylate) (Au–PMMA) nanocomposite substrates with control through polymer molecular weight and gold-salt-to-polymer weight ratio.
研究成果
For the first time, GNRs have been produced by a novel seed-mediated direct growth route on solid surfaces pre-coated with Au–PMMA nanocomposites formed using UV photoreduction. The nanocomposite formed with PMMA of lower Mw and 20 wt % gold provides a suitable medium for growing well-dispersed GNRs. This demonstrates the potential control over shape and growth distribution of the produced GNRs using polymer-immobilised gold seeds.
研究不足
The protocol for the growth of GNRs requires further improvement for better control over the formation of nanorods. The chemical composition of the GNRs samples needs to be studied using suitable spectroscopic techniques.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used a seed-mediated direct growth route on solid surfaces pre-coated with Au–PMMA nanocomposites formed using UV photoreduction.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
PMMA with two different molecular weights was chosen and dissolved in acetone to prepare solutions with a concentration of 100 g/L each. Hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III)·trihydrate was then dissolved into the polymer solutions to obtain gold–polymer samples.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
A NTMDT Solver Pro instrument for AFM images, a JEOL JSM – 6610LV microscope for SEM images, and a DC deuterium 30 W UV lamp for UV irradiation.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The final solutions were deposited on substrates through spin-coating and kept under a UV lamp for 24 h. The Au–PMMA nanocomposite samples were used as gold-seeds base to grow GNRs on their surfaces.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
AFM and SEM images were used to analyze the formation and distribution of GNRs.
