To investigate the structural and optical properties of mixed organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites CH3NH3Pb(Br1-xClx)3 by combining synchrotron X-ray diffraction (SXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-vis spectroscopic measurements.

The band gap of CH3NH3Pb(Br1-xClx)3 perovskites can be controllably tuned by varying the Cl content. The mixed-halide phases remain cubic down to 120 K, suggesting that halide disorder prevents the cooperative rearrangements needed for phase transitions. The increase in the band gap is closely correlated to the collapse of the lattice upon the incorporation of smaller Cl- anions.

The study is limited to the structural and optical properties of the mixed perovskites CH3NH3Pb(Br1-xClx)3. The phase transitions and band gap engineering are explored, but the practical applications in devices are not investigated.
