研究目的
To determine the effects of light flicker and diabetic retinopathy (DR) stage on retinal vascular diameter (D), oxygen saturation (SO2), and inner retinal oxygen extraction fraction (OEF).
研究成果
The findings of alterations in D, SO2, and OEF and their light flicker-induced responses may help to elucidate the pathophysiology of DR.
研究不足
1. OEF quantifies the ratio of MO2 to DO2 and cannot directly quantify either quantity due to a lack of BF measurements. 2. Image quality may have affected measurements. 3. A fixed calibration factor was used to calculate vessel diameters, not accounting for variations in refractive error among subjects. 4. There were variations in the clinical history and status of DR subjects.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Subjects were categorized into groups based on DR stage. A customized optical imaging system was used to measure arterial and venous D and SO2 before and during light flicker. Inner retinal OEF was derived from SO2 values.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Subjects were classified as nondiabetic control, diabetic without clinical DR, nonproliferative DR, or proliferative DR. Exclusion criteria included certain medical histories.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
A customized optical imaging system with a rapid switching filter wheel fitted with three bandpass filters was used.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Retinal imaging was performed before and during light flicker stimulation. Measurements of D and SO2 were averaged to yield mean values for each subject.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The effect of light flicker on measurements was assessed using paired t-tests. The independent effects of DR stage group were assessed using linear regression analysis.
