研究目的
To investigate the presence of gender differences in the chorioretinal microvasculature of children with and without vascular pathology.
研究成果
Significant sex-related variations exist in FAZ area and retinal thickness in both healthy and diabetic children, indicating physiological differences. Different clinical norms should be established for boys and girls, and further large-scale studies are needed to confirm these findings and explore racial variations.
研究不足
Manual contouring of FAZ borders introduces subjectivity; hydration status not accounted for; non-random eye selection based on image quality; axial length not measured, though high refractive errors were excluded.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used a cross-sectional design with OCTA and structural OCT to assess retinal and choroidal parameters. Methods included manual contouring of FAZ areas and automated measurements using Topcon software.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Participants were children ≤18 years old, including type 1 diabetic patients from a clinic and healthy controls from siblings and volunteers. Exclusion criteria included other chorioretinal diseases, previous treatments, high refractive errors, and poor image quality.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
DRI OCT Triton (Topcon, Tokyo, Japan) with angio-OCT module, software versions Topcon DRI OCT Triton v.
4:01 and IMAGEnet 6 v. 11030, cyclopentolate 1% for pupil dilation. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Pupils were dilated, examinations performed in darkness by a trained technician at the same time of day. One eye per patient selected based on image quality. OCTA acquisitions (3×3 mm) centered on fovea, with manual tracing of FAZ contours in SCP and DCP using enhancement algorithms. Structural OCT for thickness measurements.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis included Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, Student's t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and Bland-Altman method for interobserver correlation, using Statistica v. 12.0 software.
