The study used FTIR spectroscopy to characterize essential oils from aromatic plants. Hydrodistillation with a Clevenger-type apparatus was employed for extraction, and FTIR analysis was conducted using a Shimadzu spectrophotometer with HATR accessories.

Dried leaves of parsley, lovage, basil, and thyme were purchased from a Romanian company. Essential oils were extracted and stored at 4°C until analysis.

Clevenger-type apparatus for hydrodistillation, Shimadzu IRPrestige-21 spectrophotometer with HATR plates (ZnSe), anhydrous sodium sulphate for drying, distilled water, and software (IR Solution by Shimadzu, Origin 7SR1 by OriginLab Corporation).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Hydrodistillation of 50 g dried leaves with 750 mL distilled water for 3 hours, drying extracts over anhydrous sodium sulphate, depositing 1000 μL of essential oil on HATR plates, recording FTIR spectra in the range 4000-650 cm?1 with 64 scans per spectrum at 4 cm?1 resolution.

Data processed using IR Solution and Origin 7SR1 software for spectral analysis and comparison with literature standards.
