Simulation of bi-directional WDM-TDM PON with 5 Gb/s downstream and 2.5 Gb/s Upstream re-modulated Data based on RSOA

    摘要: Paper present a simulation of bi-directional WDM-TDM PON with upstream re-modulation based on RSOA for 64 ONUs at 60 Km reach with 5 Gb/s downstream and 2.5 Gb/s upstream bit rate. A 1:16 splitter is used as a PON element which creates communication between central office and different users. The effectiveness of this design depends on the ability of the RSOA to re-modulate the received downstream signal with the new upstream signal. This architecture is investigated for different RSOA power, downstream receiver power and extinction ratio in terms of BER. The result shows that as the RSOA input power decreases and the device operating regime becomes increasingly linear, the BER performance of the upstream signal deteriorates and that of downstream signal improves. Also it is observed that greater the extinction ratio the harder is for the RSOA to overwrite the downstream signal

  • Evaluating RSOA Performance with Optical Logic Gates at 100 Gbps Data Rate

    摘要: All optical logic gates are the key elements of contemporary optical computing unit. For that non-linear reflective semiconductor optical amplifier attribute of logic gates. (RSOA) Accordingly, in the manuscript all optical OR/NOR/Buffer binary logic network for the nonreturn to zero format has been designed. Its operation at 100 Gbps data rate has been successfully realized. For the applied data inputs in nonreturn to zero patterns, their corresponding output waveforms for the stated logic action have been verified. Numerical investigations for the imperative design constraints as data rate, injected power and imperative elements of the semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) pump current, carrier density, active length, confine factor, laser power has been appropriately executed with optimum performance. It has depicted good extinction ratio ( > 10 dB) performance with confine factor more than 0.2 and higher carrier density of amplifier. Further, it also accomplished, that for the OR, buffer logic execution with lower power of pump laser and for the NOR logic execution higher power laser pump source is required. The proposed design could fulfill need for the impending higher data rate composite optical computing units.
