  • Relaxation and domain formation in incommensurate two-dimensional heterostructures

    摘要: We introduce con?guration space as a natural representation for calculating the mechanical relaxation patterns of incommensurate two-dimensional (2D) bilayers. The approach can be applied to a wide variety of 2D materials through the use of a continuum model in combination with a generalized stacking fault energy for interlayer interactions. We present computational results for small-angle twisted bilayer graphene and molybdenum disul?de (MoS2), a representative material of the transition-metal dichalcogenide family of 2D semiconductors. We calculate accurate relaxations for MoS2 even at small twist-angle values, enabled by the fact that our approach does not rely on empirical atomistic potentials for interlayer coupling. The results demonstrate the ef?ciency of the con?guration space method by computing relaxations with minimal computational cost. We also outline a general explanation of domain formation in 2D bilayers with nearly aligned lattices, taking advantage of the relationship between real space and con?guration space. The con?guration space approach also enables calculation of relaxations in incommensurate multilayer systems.

  • Nonequilibrium electron dynamics in pump-probe spectroscopy: Role of excited phonon populations

    摘要: We study the role of excited phonon populations in the relaxation rates of nonequilibrium electrons using a nonequilibrium Green’s function formalism. The transient modifications in the phononic properties are accounted for by self-consistently solving the Dyson equation for the electron and phonon Green’s functions. The pump-induced changes manifest in both the electronic and phononic spectral functions. We find that the excited phonon populations suppress the decay rates of nonequilibrium electrons due to enhanced phonon absorption. The increased phonon occupation also sets the nonequilibrium decay rates and the equilibrium scattering rates apart. The decay rates are found to be time dependent, and this is illustrated in the experimentally observed population decay of photoexcited Bi1.5Sb0.5Te1.7Se1.3.

  • Transverse relaxation determination based on light polarization modulation for spin-exchange relaxation free atomic magnetometer

    摘要: A transverse relaxation determination of spin-exchange relaxation free (SERF) magnetometer based on polarization modulation technique is proposed. Compared with the radio-frequency (RF) excitation and light intensity excitation methods used in SERF magnetometer, the light polarization modulation method has a high stability in low-frequency range, which indicates a more accurate transverse relaxation measurement.

  • Multiphonon Intracenter Relaxation of Boron Acceptor States in Diamond

    摘要: The relaxation rates are calculated in the adiabatic approximation, in which the steady-state impurity states are taken to be electronic-vibrational (vibronic) states. The probabilities of transitions between these states with the emission (or absorption) of one or several phonons are calculated in first-order perturbation theory on the assumption that the transitions are a result of the violation of adiabaticity. The electron part of the wave function of the vibronic state is described by a simple Hamiltonian with an isotropic effective mass. The wave function of the ground state is determined by the quantum defect method. According to the calculations, a hole relaxes from the excited boron acceptor state, whose energy is 304 meV higher than the energy of the ground state, to the ground state with the emission of two optical phonons with a rate of ~1011 s–1. This value is an estimate from above, since the model of nondispersive optical phonons used in the study overestimates the number of phonon modes, whose participation in relaxation is allowed by the energy conservation law. However, despite the rough approximation, it can be concluded that the multiphonon relaxation of boron acceptor states in diamond is a fast process.

  • Moisture absorption and hydrothermal aging of phenylethynyl-terminated pyromellitic dianhydride-type asymmetric polyimide and composites

    摘要: The effects of moisture on a polymerized monomeric reactant (PMR)-type polyimide (TriA X) and associated composites were investigated. Water uptake tests were performed on the polyimide at various temperatures and relative humidity levels to investigate moisture absorption behavior. Two-stage moisture absorption was observed, in which the first stage was diffusion controlled, whereas the second stage was moisture plasticization controlled. As exposure temperature increased, the equilibrium moisture content of the polyimide decreased, indicating an exothermic absorption process. The Arrhenius temperature dependence and moisture saturation as functions of temperature and humidity in the neat polymer were determined using curve fitting based on the published mathematical models. Long-term hydrothermal aging at 95°C was conducted on the neat polyimide and associated carbon fiber composites. Reversible hydrolytic reactions and a trace of irreversible hydrolysis were observed in the long-term exposure. The tensile ductility of the neat polyimide and the short-beam shear strength of the composites decreased with increasing aging time, while the tensile strength and modulus and thermal properties of the polyimide exhibited little change after 2000-h aging, demonstrating hydrothermal stability. The decrease in the ductility of the neat polymer after long-term moisture exposure was attributed to the network structure change, driven by hydrolysis and moisture plasticization.

  • Physical Properties of Pure and Nano Ag Doped Liquid Crystalline Compounds Containing 1,3,4-Oxadizole Unit

    摘要: Dielectric properties and other physical properties such as electrical conductivity (AC) and relaxation time or activation energy have been studied for two systems pure LC [V]6,6, [V]7,6, [V]8,6, [V]6,7, [V]7,7 and [V]8,7 and their doped with silver nanoparticles. The results show the increasing in real dielectric permittivity ? with increasing length terminal chain. So the real dielectric permittivity increasing with raising temperature. To compare between the values of (400) Hz and (4000) Hz we observe these values at the low frequency are larger than that in high frequency. Generally, one can see that the doping of Ag nano particles effectively reduced the permittivity of the LC materials with its large electric dipole moment. The electrical conductivity σ value for pure LC samples in general increases with increasing temperature. So we observed increasing of electrical conductivity values at high frequency. The time scale is discussed in terms of the Arrhenius plot. Generally, with increasing the temperature the time period that spends by molecules at the transition state will increase. The activation energy Ea values show the increase in the activation energy to the doped systems.

  • Constitutive modeling of polarization relaxation behavior in ferroelectrics

    摘要: A thermodynamically consistent model is formulated to depict the polarization hysteresis and the rate-dependent behavior of relaxation in ferroelectric materials. On the relaxation condition, the polarization gradually changes with time while the applied electric field is kept constant. The present model introduces internal state variables to represent such irreversible dissipation processes. Based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics, the evolution laws of the internal state variables consisting of constitutive equations are then derived through the definitions of the Helmholtz free energy and a dissipation potential. To verify the applicability of the constitutive model, numerical simulations are compared with experiment in the literature.

  • Correlation between the structure and structural relaxation data for (GeSe2)y(Sb2Se3)1-y glasses

    摘要: Combined calorimetric and structural study, employing the techniques of differential scanning calorimetry and Raman spectroscopy, was performed to describe the enthalpy relaxation processes in the (GeSe2)y(Sb2Se3)1-y chalcogenide glasses. The full glass forming compositional region (y = 0.3–0.9) was explored. The enthalpy relaxation was described in terms of the phenomenological Tool-Narayanaswamy-Moynihan model. Compositional evolution of the glass transition temperatures and relaxation activation energies was explained based on the changing average bond energies and overall interconnectivity of the glassy matrices. Resemblance between the activation energies of the relaxation processes and viscous flow was confirmed for all studied glasses. Non-linearity and non-exponentiality of the enthalpy relaxation were found to be invariant with composition. The structural relaxation kinetics as well as kinetic fragilities determined for the present (GeSe2)y(Sb2Se3)1-y glassy system were very similar to the results obtained earlier for the (GeS2)y(Sb2S3)1-y glasses, which can be attributed to the similarly constrained topology of the pseudo-binary compositional lines.

  • Transport and complex modulus study of La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 perovskite manganite nano-compound with polypyrrole as host

    摘要: The paper focuses on the facile synthesis of polypyrrole/La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 perovskite magnetic nano-composites synthesized by in situ chemical oxidation method using ammonium persulfate as oxidant. The morphology and crystal phase of the prepared samples were analyzed using SEM, TEM and XRD, respectively. Electrical conductivity, dielectric constant, dielectric loss, complex electric and impedance modulus studies were invested in the frequency range of 100 Hz–5 MHz at room temperature using AC impedance analyzer. The composites show frequency dependence with relaxation mechanism. The electric and impedance modulus analysis reveals the presence of non-Debye-type relaxation process and the effect of both grain and grain boundary on the transport properties of the composites.

  • Spin–Lattice Relaxation and Diffusion Processes in Aqueous Solutions of Gadolinium-Based Upconverting Nanoparticles at Different Magnetic Fields

    摘要: We investigated the influence of gadolinium (Gd)-based upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) on water spin–lattice relaxation (T1) and diffusion at different magnetic field strengths (0.4 T and 9.4 T). Our findings show that smaller NPs (12 nm compared to 19 nm) were more favourable for proton relaxivity. We also demonstrate that using simplified Solomon–Bloembergen–Morgan (SBM) model we can associate two measured diffusion coefficients with processes occurring near the surface of UCNPs and in bulk water. Using the relationship between relaxation and diffusion, we can estimate not only the total impact of NPs on relaxation of water molecules, but also the impact on relaxation of local water molecules, directly connected to paramagnetic Gd3+ ions in NPs. Different magnetic field strengths did not alter the spin–lattice relaxivity of NPs. This suggests that Gd-based UCNPs could be developed into high-performance multimodal magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents working over a broad range of imaging field strengths used in clinical routine.
