    摘要: An open-winding permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) system with the integration of fully controlled and uncontrolled converter is investigated in this paper, in which half the amount of controllable power switches are needed compared with the conventional open winding system fed by two voltage source converters. The voltage space vector of open winding PMSG is modulated by controlled converter, which will be integrated with the voltage vector by uncontrolled converter to implement the operation of open winding PMSG. In order to analyze and compare the operation capability on the different dc voltage ratios, the available modulation range of the open winding PMSG is analyzed in detail. Moreover, unity power factor control is proposed as the optimized control method to achieve the maximum modulation index. Finally, a 1-kW experimental setup is built to validate the theoretical investigation on the open winding PMSG system.

  • Comparison of Different Electric Vehicle Integration Approaches in Presence of Photovoltaic and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage Systems

    摘要: The impacts of electric vehicles on the electrical power network in the presence of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems is a field to be studied in depth. Especially because in recent years the installation of electric vehicles has increased considerably in order to reduce the emission of CO2 and fossil fuel consumption to reach environmental cleanliness. This paper presents a comparison between the different integration methods of electric vehicles subject to the availability of photovoltaic systems and superconducting magnetic energy storage systems. Moreover, it analyses and explains the issues of power loss, voltage fluctuation, load leveling and reactive power support in the different approaches. Besides that, this study explores the role of superconducting magnetic energy storage systems in different cases. A fuzzy logic control algorithm is proposed to estimate the charging and discharging process of superconducting magnetic energy storage systems and electric vehicles. In addition, a coordinated control system is proposed to manage the power between the photovoltaic system, the electric vehicles and superconducting magnetic energy storage system as well as boost the power system performance. A whole coordinated control system based on fuzzy logic control is proposed to make the power management of the grid, EVs, SMES, and PV in an all integration approach of electric vehicles to achieve the improvements in the power system performance and maintain the reliability and sustainability of the all system components. Finally, the data analysis of the simulation results, performed by the Matlab Simulink toolbox is presented in all cases to explain the performance of the superconducting magnetic energy storage system, the control system, power losses, voltage fluctuation and reactive power support.

  • Accuracy of complex internal channels produced by laser powder bed fusion process

    摘要: Additive manufacturing (AM) technology has great potential in manufacturing complex internal channels for several applications such as satellite-communication microwave systems. These systems can have complex shapes and make traditional ?nishing processes a challenge for additive parts. Therefore, it is desirable that the internal surfaces are as close as possible to the tolerance of the ?eld of application. In this study, a complex component, a unique waveguide device with bending, twisting and ?ltering functionalities, has been designed and manufactured in AlSi10Mg alloy through laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process. Three di?erent prototypes with three di?erent curvature (R of 50 mm, 40 mm and 30 mm), operating in Ku/K band, have been manufactured and tested showing a very good agreement with the desired performances. Using 3D scan data, the internal deviations from the CAD model have been evaluated showing an average deviation of the internal areas of about 0.08 mm, 0.046 mm and 0.023 mm from the CAD model for the R of 50 mm, 40 mm and 30 mm respectively The surface roughness measured in the internal channel is about Ra (arithmetic average roughness) of 8 μm ± 1.3 μm and Rz (average maximum height of the roughness pro?le) of 62.3 μm ± 0.34 μm.

  • Recent advances of heterogeneously integrated III–V laser on Si

    摘要: Due to the indirect bandgap nature, the widely used silicon CMOS is very inefficient at light emitting. The integration of silicon lasers is deemed as the ‘Mount Everest’ for the full take-up of Si photonics. The major challenge has been the materials dissimilarity caused impaired device performance. We present a brief overview of the recent advances of integrated III–V laser on Si. We will then focus on the heterogeneous direct/adhesive bonding enabling methods and associated light coupling structures. A selected review of recent representative novel heterogeneously integrated Si lasers for emerging applications like spectroscopy, sensing, metrology and microwave photonics will be presented, including DFB laser array, ultra-dense comb lasers and nanolasers. Finally, the challenges and opportunities of heterogeneous integration approach are discussed.

    摘要: Quasi-static time-series (QSTS) analysis of distribution systems can provide critical information about the potential impacts of high penetrations of distributed and renewable resources, like solar photovoltaic systems. However, running high-resolution yearlong QSTS simulations of large distribution feeders can be prohibitively burdensome due to long computation times. Temporal parallelization of QSTS simulations is one possible solution to overcome this obstacle. QSTS simulations can be divided into multiple sections, e.g. into four equal parts of the year, and solved simultaneously with parallel computing. The challenge is that each time the simulation is divided, error is introduced. This paper presents various initialization methods for reducing the error associated with temporal parallelization of QSTS simulations and characterizes performance across multiple distribution circuits and several different computers with varying architectures.

  • Performance improvement of optical negative feedback laser by reducing feedback loop length

    摘要: The Optical path length of an input/output optical waveguide in a Si ring ?lter is reduced to shorten the feedback loop length of an optical negative feedback laser. Thanks to the increase in phase margin in the optical negative feedback system, the spectral linewidth of a single-mode semiconductor laser can be reduced to 99.8 kHz.

    摘要: The Offshore Simulator Centre AS (OSC) is the world's most advanced provider of simulators for demanding offshore operations. However, even though the OSC provides very powerful simulation tools, it is mainly designed for training purposes and it does not inherently offer any flexible methods concerning the control methodology. In fact, each crane model is controlled with a dedicated control algorithm that cannot be modified, accessed, or replaced at runtime. As a result, it is not possible to dynamically switch between different control methods, nor is it possible to easily investigate alternative control approaches. To overcome these problems, a flexible and general control system architecture that allows for modeling flexible control algorithms of maritime cranes and more generally, robotic arms, was previously presented by our research group. However, in the previous work, a generic game engine was used to visualize the different models. In this work, the flexible and general control system architecture is integrated with a crane simulator developed by the OSC taking full advantage of the provided domain-consistent simulation tools. The Google Protocol Buffers protocol is adopted to realize the communication protocol. This integration establishes the base for the research of alternative control algorithms, which can be efficiently tested in a realistic maritime simulation environment. As a validating case study, an alternative control method based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is also presented. Related simulations are carried out to validate the efficiency of the proposed integration.

    摘要: Modular multilevel converter (MMC) topology is discussed intensively as a crucial part of future dc grids, especially to integrate offshore wind power. While generalized voltage-source converter models are usually utilized for multiterminal investigations, conclusions on transient dc grid behavior and on ac–dc interactions during distorted ac grid conditions are hard to draw or are limited in their signi?cance. In this paper, a MMC-based dc grid framework with a tripartite focus on an internal converter as well as dc and ac grid control is presented. Besides, an evaluation of the implemented MMC model that incorporates the available arm sum voltage, a decoupled ac and dc current system control concept that is suitable to handle unbalanced voltage conditions is derived for HVDC applications. Combined with wind farm arrays, this collocation allows a meaningful examination of hybrid ACDC structures and the implemented dc grid control methodologies. To provide proof of the universal applicability of this framework, simulations are carried out on a ?ve-terminal system.

    摘要: The integration of distributed energy generation systems has begun to impact the operation of distribution feeders within the balancing areas of numerous electrical utilities. Battery energy storage systems may be used to facilitate greater integration of renewable energy generation. This paper describes a method for determining the power and energy capacities a battery energy storage system would need in order to accommodate a particular photovoltaic penetration level within a distribution feeder, or conversely, the amount of photovoltaic that could be installed on a feeder with a minimal investment in power and energy battery energy storage system (BESS) capacities. This method determines the BESS capacities required to compensate both intra-hour and inter-hour load and photovoltaic ?uctuations to achieve a ?at feeder power pro?le. By managing the feeder power, the voltage drop along the length of feeder may be managed, thereby mitigating the voltage ?uctuation induced by the stochastic nature of both renewables generation and load. Doing so facilitates system bene?ts, such as conservation voltage reduction, fewer operations of load tap changers, and voltage regulators, and allows for deferment of capital expenditures.

  • Enhancing electrostatic coupling in silicon quantum dot array by dual gate oxide thickness for large-scale integration

    摘要: We propose a structure with word/bit line control for a two-dimensional quantum dot array, which allows random access for arbitrary quantum dots with a small number of control signals. To control multiple quantum dots with a single signal, every quantum dot should have a wide operating voltage allowance to overcome the property variations. We fabricate two-dimensional quantum dot arrays using silicon-complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor technology with an alternating dual-standard gate oxide thickness. The quantum dots are designed to have an allowable operating voltage window of 0.2 V to control the number of electrons, which is a window one order of magnitude wider than that of previous works. The proposed structure enables both easy fabrication and operation for multiple quantum dots and will pave the way for practical use of large-scale quantum computers.
