    摘要: The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard (ITU-T H.265 and ISO/IEC 23008-2) has been developed with the main goal of providing significantly improved video compression compared with its predecessors. In order to evaluate this goal, verification tests were conducted by the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding of ITU-T SG 16 WP 3 and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29. This paper presents the subjective and objective results of a verification test in which the performance of the new standard is compared with its highly successful predecessor, the Advanced Video Coding (AVC) video compression standard (ITU-T H.264 and ISO/IEC 14496-10). The test used video sequences with resolutions ranging from 480p up to ultra-high definition, encoded at various quality levels using the HEVC Main profile and the AVC High profile. In order to provide a clear evaluation, this paper also discusses various aspects for the analysis of the test results. The tests showed that bit rate savings of 59% on average can be achieved by HEVC for the same perceived video quality, which is higher than a bit rate saving of 44% demonstrated with the PSNR objective quality metric. However, it has been shown that the bit rates required to achieve good quality of compressed content, as well as the bit rate savings relative to AVC, are highly dependent on the characteristics of the tested content.

    摘要: We announce a new video quality model (VQM) that accounts for the perceptual impact of variable frame delays (VFD) in videos with demonstrated top performance on the laboratory for image and video engineering (LIVE) mobile video quality assessment (VQA) database. This model, called VQM_VFD, uses perceptual features extracted from spatial-temporal blocks spanning fixed angular extents and a long edge detection filter. VQM_VFD predicts video quality by measuring multiple frame delays using perception based parameters to track subjective quality over time. In the performance analysis of VQM_VFD, we evaluated its efficacy at predicting human opinions of visual quality. A detailed correlation analysis and statistical hypothesis testing show that VQM_VFD accurately predicts human subjective judgments and substantially outperforms top-performing image quality assessment and VQA models previously tested on the LIVE mobile VQA database. VQM_VFD achieved the best performance on the mobile and tablet studies of the LIVE mobile VQA database for simulated compression, wireless packet-loss, and rate adaptation, but not for temporal dynamics. These results validate the new model and warrant a hard release of the VQM_VFD algorithm. It is freely available for any purpose, commercial, or noncommercial at http://www.its.bldrdoc.gov/vqm/.

    摘要: Predicting the popularity of online videos is an important task for the service design, advertisement placement, network management, and so on. In this paper, we tackle the challenge head-on by casting the popularity prediction problem into two consecutive tasks: online video future popularity level prediction and online video future view count prediction. We first predict the future popularity levels of online videos, based on a rich set of features and effective classification technique. Then, according to the popularity level transitions, we build specialized regression models to predict the future view count values. We validate our approach on the exhaustive dataset of a leading online video service provider in China, namely, Youku. The experimental results show that comparing with two state-of-the-art baseline models, our proposed method can significantly decrease the relative prediction errors of 32.25% and 19.82%, respectively. At last, we also discuss the model setup and feature importance of our method. We believe our work can provide direct help in practical for the interested parties of online video service, such as service providers, online advisers, and network operators.

    摘要: An iterative turbo decoder-based cross layer error recovery scheme for compressed video is presented in this paper. The soft information exchanged between two convolutional decoders is reinforced both by channel coded parity and video compression syntactical information. An algorithm to identify the video frame boundaries in corrupted compressed sequences is formulated. This paper continues to propose algorithms to deduce the correct values for selected fields in the compressed stream. Modifying the turbo extrinsic information using these corrections acts as reinforcements in the turbo decoding iterative process. The optimal number of turbo iterations suitable for the proposed system model is derived using EXIT charts. Simulation results reveal that a transmission power saving of 2.28% can be achieved using the proposed methodology. Contrary to typical joint cross layer decoding schemes, the additional resource requirement is minimal, since the proposed decoding cycle does not involve the decompression function.

  • Analyzing the Dynamics of the Laser Beam Cutting Process

    摘要: Instabilities of the melt flow dynamics at the laser cutting front lead to quality losses, due to the formation of striations at the resulting cut flank. The application of high-speed video diagnosis has turned out to be very instructive for a well-founded process analysis. In this way, it was found out for the first time that the melt film dynamics at the cutting front reveal characteristic frequencies that are nearly independent of process parameters. Interestingly, their local appearance correlates with the area of lowest roughness on the resulting cut flanks. This observation suggests the amplification of the characteristic frequencies in order to obtain a reduced roughness over the complete cut depth. Comprehensible rules for optimized laser beam and gas flow parameters can be determined based on the physical understanding of the origin of the characteristic frequencies.

  • CO<sub>2</sub>-Lasertonsillotomy Under Local Anesthesia in Adults

    摘要: Tonsil-related complaints are very common among the adult population. Tonsillectomy under general anesthesia is currently the most performed surgical treatment in adults for such complaints. Unfortunately, tonsillectomy is an invasive treatment associated with a high complication rate and a long recovery time. Complications and a long recovery time are mostly related to removing the vascular and densely innervated capsule of the tonsils. Recently, CO2-lasertonsillotomy under local anesthesia has been demonstrated to be a viable alternative treatment for tonsil-related disease with a significantly shorter and less painful recovery period. The milder side-effect profile of CO2-lasertonsillotomy is likely related to leaving the tonsil capsule intact. The aim of the current report is to present a concise protocol detailing the execution of CO2-lasertonsillotomy under local anesthesia. This intervention has been performed successfully in our hospital in more than 1,000 patients and has been found to be safe and to be associated with a steep learning curve.

    摘要: A coarse-grained reconfigurable processing unit (RPU) consisting of multi-functional processing elements (PEs) interconnected by an area-efficient line-switched mesh connect (LSMC) routing is implemented on a die in TSMC 65 nm LP1P8M CMOS technology. A hierarchical configuration context (HCC) organization scheme is proposed to reduce the implementation overhead and the energy dissipation spent on fast reconfiguration. The proposed RPU is integrated into two system-on-a-chips (SoCs), targeting multiple-standard video decoding. The high-performance chip, comprising two RPU processors (named REMUS_HPP), can decode H.264 video streams at 30 frames per second (fps) under 200 MHz. REMUS_HPP achieves a 25% performance gain over the XPP-III reconfigurable processor with only 280 mW power consumption, resulting in a improvement on energy efficiency. The other chip (named REMUS_LPP), targeting low power applications, integrates only one RPU processor. REMUS_LPP can decode H.264 video streams at 35fps with 24.5 mW under 75 MHz, achieving a 76% reduction in power dissipation and improvement on energy efficiency compared with the ADRES reconfigurable processor.

  • Laser pulmonary metastasectomy by video-assisted thoracic surgery

    摘要: Indications and surgical approach for pulmonary metastasectomy remain controversial as randomized clinical trials are lacking to validate its effectiveness. To this end, non-anatomical lung wedge resection, widely performed by staplers, persists as preferred surgical procedure. With the advent of new technologies, laser assisted surgery evolved and has been advocated mainly for multiple pulmonary metastases in open surgery fashion. However, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) laser pulmonary metastasectomy has been rarely reported. This review is based on a selective search of the PubMed database for articles that were published from 1990 to 2018 and contained the keywords ‘laser assisted surgery’, ‘pulmonary metastasectomy’, ‘thoracoscopic laser metastasectomy’, and ‘VATS’. No prospective clinical trial has been performed to provide evidence whether to treat pulmonary metastasis with laser or conventional techniques. According to retrospective cohort studies and descriptive series, open approach laser assisted surgery facilitates the resection of a higher number of metastases, sparing healthy lung parenchyma, while obtaining similar recurrence rates compared to conventional staplers. In central lesions, optimal surgical margins can be achieved around the lesion avoiding injury to deep located structures such as major vessels or bronchus. However, evidence about thoracoscopic laser pulmonary metastasectomy is remarkably poor consisting in only a few small series of patients with one or two resected metastases. Laser assisted pulmonary metastasectomy is safe and effective. Video-assisted laser resection of lung metastases is a marginal technique to date. Postulated benefits of open laser assisted pulmonary metastasectomy could not be assumed by thoracoscopic approach with available data. Further studies are needed to demonstrate whether multiple and centrally lesions could be effectively resected by thoracoscopic laser metastasectomy.

    摘要: Mobile video surveillance applications are used widely nowadays. They offer real-time video monitoring for homes, of?ces, warehouses, airports, and so on with live and pre-recorded on-demand video streaming. Quality of service (QoS) remains a key challenge faced by most of these applications. In this article, we propose an architecture for mobile video surveillance applications with a guaranteed and differentiated QoS support. The architecture relies on the 3GPP 4G evolved packet core (EPC). The main components are the QoS enabler, media server, and machine-to-machine gateway and surveillance application. To demonstrate its feasibility, a proof of concept prototype has been implemented and deployed. We also took measurements to evaluate the performance. Several lessons were learned. For instance, multimedia frameworks must allow for buffering controls in media streaming to reduce live streaming delay. In addition, we have learned that publicly available materials related to the EPC prototyping platform we have used (i.e., OpenEPC) are scarce. This has made our prototyping task rather dif?cult.
