摘要: In this short paper, we propose a powerful new tool for conducting research on computational intelligence and games. “PyVGDL” is a simple, high-level, extensible description language for 2-D video games. It is based on defining locations and dynamics for simple building blocks (objects), together with local interaction effects. A rich ontology defines various controllers, object behaviors, passive effects (physics), and collision effects. It can be used to quickly design games, without having to deal with control structures. We show how the dynamics of many classical games can be generated from a few lines of PyVGDL. Furthermore, the accompanying software library permits parsing and instantly playing those games, visualized from a bird’s-eye or first-person viewpoint, and using them as benchmarks for learning algorithms.

摘要: The objective of this paper is to estimate the number of moving objects that passes through a specific area without fully decoding the H.265/high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) bitstreams. First, the foreground prediction blocks are extracted according to the motion vectors of the H.265/HEVC bitstreams. Next, these foreground prediction blocks are clustered into the region of interests (ROIs), which are the possible area position of moving objects in the current frame. Finally, the state of moving objects is identified by matching moving objects and these ROIs. In order to estimate the number of moving objects, which move toward a pre-defined direction, a tripwire is set to a detecting area. Any moving objects crossing the tripwire and satisfying the intrusion conditions are counted. With the proposed method, the number of moving objects can be directly estimated in the compressed domain video. This approach significantly increase the processing speed more than 400% at the cost of less than 0.02% accuracy degradation compared with the traditional pixel domain approach. The research results can be applied to traffic management, real-time analysis of surveillance application, and other related areas.

摘要: IPTV service providers offering Video-on-Demand currently use servers at each metropolitan office to store all the videos in their library. With the rapid increase in library sizes, it will soon become infeasible to replicate the entire library at each office. We present an approach for intelligent content placement that scales to large library sizes (e.g., 100 Ks of videos). We formulate the problem as a mixed integer program (MIP) that takes into account constraints such as disk space, link bandwidth, and content popularity. To overcome the challenges of scale, we employ a Lagrangian relaxation-based decomposition technique combined with integer rounding. Our technique finds a near-optimal solution (e.g., within 1%–2%) with orders of magnitude speedup relative to solving even the linear programming (LP) relaxation via standard software. We also present simple strategies to address practical issues such as popularity estimation, content updates, short-term popularity fluctuation, and frequency of placement updates. Using traces from an operational system, we show that our approach significantly outperforms simpler placement strategies. For instance, our MIP-based solution can serve all requests using only half the link bandwidth used by least recently used (LRU) or least frequently used (LFU) cache replacement policies. We also investigate the tradeoff between disk space and network bandwidth.

摘要: Cloud gaming is a new way to deliver high-quality gaming experience to gamers anywhere and anytime. In cloud gaming, sophisticated game software runs on powerful servers in data centers, rendered game scenes are streamed to gamers over the Internet in real time, and the gamers use light-weight software executed on heterogeneous devices to interact with the games. Due to the proliferation of high-speed networks and cloud computing, cloud gaming has attracted tremendous attentions in both the academia and industry since late 2000’s. In this paper, we survey the latest cloud gaming research from different aspects, spanning over cloud gaming platforms, optimization techniques, and commercial cloud gaming services. The readers will gain the overview of cloud gaming research and get familiar with the recent developments in this area.

Recent Advances in Image and Video Coding || Approach to Super-Resolution Through the Concept of Multicamera Imaging
摘要: Super-resolution consists of processing an image or a set of images in order to enhance the resolution of a video sequence or a single frame. There are several methods to apply super-resolution, from which fusion super-resolution techniques are considered to be the most adequate for real-time implementations. In fusion, super-resolution and high-resolution images are constructed from several observed low-resolution images, thereby increasing the high-frequency components and removing the degradations caused by the recording process of low-resolution imaging acquisition devices. Moreover, the proposed imaging system considered in this work is based on capturing various frames from several sensors, which are attached to one another by a P × Q array. This framework is known as a multicamera system. This chapter summarizes the research conducted to apply fusion super-resolution techniques to select the most adequate frames and macroblocks together with a multicamera array. This approach optimizes the temporal and spatial correlations in the frames and reduces as a consequence the appearance of annoying artifacts, enhancing the quality of the processed high-resolution sequence and minimizing the execution time.

Development of triple streaming (HD-SDI, EX-SDI, analog signals) hybrid CCTV camera
摘要: This study proposes the developing and implementing of the high-definition level triple streaming hybrid security camera that can output three types of video-signals, which are high-definition serial digital interface, extended serial digital interface, and analog signals. In this study, to develop the high-definition level triple streaming hybrid security camera the hardware and firmware software was designed and implemented. The hardware was implemented using image sensors MN34229PL from Panasonic, main processors EN778/EN331 from Eyenix, Auto Iris functions KA909A from Fairchild, and Zoom/Focus controls A3901SEJTR-T from Microsystems Inc. In addition, to evaluate the performance test of the developed camera in this study, we requested for the performance evaluation at the broadcasting and communication convergence testing by the department of Telecommunication Technology Association, Korea. The results of the performance tests indicated that the performances of the product developed in this study were found to be excellent than the other commercial products with regard to the signal-to-noise ratio, the minimum intensity of illumination, and power consumption. The product designed in this study is expected to be widely utilized in the high-resolution security camera market.

Video recording in ophthalmic surgery
摘要: Video recording in ophthalmic surgery has immense potential to drive quality improvement in patient care, ophthalmology training, and research. Not only do surgical videos permit introspective and critical analyses of surgical technique, they also allow for objective assessment, more informative audits, and are an invaluable medium for surgical education. Unfortunately, medical-grade video recording equipment is often costly. Various novel methods of video recording that utilise commercially available products offer adequate alternatives. Certain ethical and legal issues also need to be considered prior to the commencement of video recording in the operating room to protect both patient and surgeon. We review the current applications and methods of video recording in ophthalmic surgery described in the literature, as well as the potential ethical and legal issues surrounding video recording.

摘要: We propose a novel high dynamic range (HDR) video synthesis algorithm from alternatively exposed low dynamic range (LDR) videos. We first develop a superpixel-based motion estimation technique using an illumination-invariant feature descriptor. Then, we merge the warped frames to obtain the HDR frame. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides high-quality HDR videos compared to state-of-the-art algorithms.

摘要: In this paper, we propose a cohort of new methods that cooperate together to improve the detection/tracking of mosquitos in a 2D video clip. A commonly recognized challenge in the biotechnology research field is evaluating the effect of a repellent which entails tracking the unpredictable flight paths of the insects, which may be swift flying or slow moving. Our work presented in this paper provides an efficient tool to deal with tracking the small insects with unpredictable moving patterns by proposing a new dual foreground and background modeling/updating system for target detecting and tracking. The proposed processing elements take advantage of the similarity of the frames and use the estimated speeds to collectively capture the relevant information and contribute in concert to ensure fast and accurate measurement to reach the goal of behavior evaluation of mosquitos in response to a repellent.
