Wavelength-stable 1.1 kW diode laser array cooled by liquid metal
摘要: While rate–distortion optimized quantization (RDOQ) technique provides nontrivial coding gain in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), it also involves considerable computations, whereby the complexity of quantization is significantly increased. In this paper, two schemes (the RDOQ bypass decision and the simplified level adjustment) are investigated to reduce the complexity of the quantization process in HEVC with RDOQ. The RDOQ bypass decision method initially selects the transform blocks for which the RDOQ is expected to give less/or no coding gain and enables the conventional uniform scalar quantization to be applied to these transform blocks instead of the RDOQ. The simplified level adjustment method only estimates the difference in rate–distortion costs among the candidate quantization levels to enable the encoder to select an optimal quantization level at a much reduced computational cost. Furthermore, the proposed simplified level adjustment scheme is designed so that it can be implemented in lookup tables. Experimental results show that the proposed fast method achieves 14.3% quantization complexity reduction in all intra main conditions, 15.2% in the random access main condition, and 14.9% in the low delay main condition on average with virtually no coding loss compared with the conventional quantization process with the RDOQ.

摘要: Personalization approaches seek to estimate user preferences in order to recommend content or social network connections, or to serve personalized advertisements to users. Such approaches are being increasingly adopted by organizations to build customized personalization applications. Leveraging the growing popularity of Web videos for such approaches necessitates the ability to classify Web videos into application-specific categories, since different applications are interested in different aspects of the user preferences. A key requirement of supervised classification models to address this is the availability of training videos labeled to the arbitrary application-specific categories. In order to address this requirement, we propose a completely automated framework to obtain training Web videos for arbitrary categories, which does not rely on any manual labeling of videos. This is achieved utilizing keywords to retrieve training videos, thereby simplifying the problem of obtaining training videos to the problem of selecting keywords to retrieve them. We show that there are two opposing objectives (proximity and diversity) that need to be considered while developing such keyword selection techniques. We propose two efficient approaches (linear combination of proximity and diversity and annealing-based alternating optimization) and study the tradeoffs between them, with respect to performance and the human input required to tune parameters of the approach. Through experiments over several sets of categories, we demonstrate the feasibility of the automated framework to select training videos for application-specific categorization. We also show that the proposed approaches lead to a substantial improvement in the performance of classification models, as compared with other automated methods.

Physics of Electrostatic Projection Revealed by High-Speed Video Imaging
摘要: Processes based on electrostatic projection are used extensively in industry, e.g., for mineral separations, electrophotography, or manufacturing of coated abrasives, such as sandpaper. Despite decades of engineering practice, there are still unanswered questions. In this paper, we present a comprehensive experimental study of the projection process of more than 1500 individual spherical alumina particles with a nominal size of 500 μm, captured by high-speed video imaging and digital image analysis. Based on flight trajectories of approximately 1100 projected particles, we determine the acquired charge and dynamics as a function of the relative humidity (RH) and the electric field intensity and compare the results with classical theories. For RH levels of 50% and above, more than 85% of distributed particles are projected, even when the electric field intensity is at its minimum level. This suggests that, beyond a critical value of the electric field intensity, the RH plays a more critical role in the projection process. We also observe that the charging time is reduced dramatically for RH levels of 50% and above, possibly due to the buildup of thin water films around the distributed particles, which can facilitate charge transfer. In contrast, projected particles at the 30% RH level exhibit excessive amounts of electric charge, between 2 and 4 times than that of the saturation value, which might be attributed to triboelectric charging effects. Finally, the physics of electrostatic projection is compared and contrasted with those of induced-charge electrokinetic phenomena, which share similar field-square scaling, as the applied electric field acts on its own induced charge to cause particle motion.

摘要: We propose a generative model for robust tensor factorization in the presence of both missing data and outliers. The objective is to explicitly infer the underlying low-CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP)-rank tensor capturing the global information and a sparse tensor capturing the local information (also considered as outliers), thus providing the robust predictive distribution over missing entries. The low-CP-rank tensor is modeled by multilinear interactions between multiple latent factors on which the column sparsity is enforced by a hierarchical prior, while the sparse tensor is modeled by a hierarchical view of Student-t distribution that associates an individual hyperparameter with each element independently. For model inference under a fully Bayesian treatment, which can effectively prevent the overfitting problem and scales linearly with data size. In contrast to existing related works, our method can perform model selection automatically and implicitly without the need of tuning parameters. More specifically, it can discover the groundtruth of CP rank and automatically adapt the sparsity inducing priors to various types of outliers. In addition, the tradeoff between the low-rank approximation and the sparse representation can be optimized in the sense of maximum model evidence. The extensive experiments and comparisons with many state-of-the-art algorithms on both synthetic and real-world data sets demonstrate the superiorities of our method from several perspectives.

Compact, Low-Profile, Linearly and Circularly Polarized Filtennas Enabled with Custom-Designed Feed-Probe Structures
摘要: In this short paper, we propose a powerful new tool for conducting research on computational intelligence and games. “PyVGDL” is a simple, high-level, extensible description language for 2-D video games. It is based on defining locations and dynamics for simple building blocks (objects), together with local interaction effects. A rich ontology defines various controllers, object behaviors, passive effects (physics), and collision effects. It can be used to quickly design games, without having to deal with control structures. We show how the dynamics of many classical games can be generated from a few lines of PyVGDL. Furthermore, the accompanying software library permits parsing and instantly playing those games, visualized from a bird’s-eye or first-person viewpoint, and using them as benchmarks for learning algorithms.

Dielectric Slab Air-Filled Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SAFSIW) Bandpass Filters
摘要: The detection of vision problems in early childhood can prevent neurodevelopmental disorders such as amblyopia. However, accurate clinical assessment of visual function in young children is challenging. optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) is a re?exive sawtooth motion of the eye that occurs in response to drifting stimuli, that may allow for objective measurement of visual function in young children if appropriate child-friendly eye tracking techniques are available. In this paper, we present of?ine tools to detect the presence and direction of the optokinetic re?ex in children using consumer grade video equipment. Our methods are tested on video footage of children (N = 5 children and 20 trials) taken as they freely observed visual stimuli that induced horizontal OKN. Using results from an experienced observer as a baseline, we found the sensitivity and speci?city of our OKN detection method to be 89.13% and 98.54%, respectively, across all trials. Our OKN detection results also compared well (85%) with results obtained from a clinically trained assessor. In conclusion, our results suggest that OKN presence and direction can be measured objectively in children using consumer grade equipment, and readily implementable algorithms.

Tunnel Monitoring and Measuring System Using Mobile Laser Scanning: Design and Deployment
摘要: The common statistical methods for rail tunnel deformation and disease detection usually require a large amount of equipment and manpower to achieve full section detection, which are time consuming and ine?cient. The development trend in the industry is to use laser scanning for full section detection. In this paper, a design scheme for a tunnel monitoring and measuring system with laser scanning as the main sensor for tunnel environmental disease and deformation analysis is proposed. The system provides functions such as tunnel point cloud collection, section deformation analysis, dislocation analysis, disease extraction, tunnel and track image generation, roaming video generation, etc. Field engineering indicated that the repeatability of the convergence diameter detection of the system can reach ±2 mm, dislocation repeatability can reach ±3 mm, the image resolution is about 0.5 mm/pixel in the ballast part, and the resolution of the inner wall of the tunnel is about 1.5 mm/pixel. The system can include human–computer interaction to extract and label diseases or appurtenances and support the generation of thematic disease maps. The developed system can provide important technical support for deformation and disease detection of rail transit tunnels.
