    摘要: A PV-powered automatic irrigation system is designed and implemented in this paper. Dominant factors of the system such as the effect of solar radiation on motor power, current, and water discharge are considered in this study. The proposed system is implemented in the field to irrigate corn plant (maize) considering the optimum tilt angle for Duhok city. A new method for measuring the moisture content in the soil and sufficient level of moisture needed for normal growth of the crop is presented to design a timer for the system to reduce the amount of wasted water. Moisture sensors are used to check the availability of water in the soil and to enable the microcontroller to control the operation status of the pump. The results show that the proposed irrigation method is more accurate and efficient than the conventional irrigation methods in terms of the amount of the water used for irrigation, and the accuracy of irrigating times based on changing local climate. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed system is more cost effective way of irrigation and more environmental friendly in terms of the amount of water used in an area known for water scarcity.

  • Sizing and improved grid integration of residential PV systems with heat pumps and battery storage systems

    摘要: In the future, the remuneration of photovoltaic (PV) grid feed-in might significantly drop in Germany and questions arise if small-scale PV systems remain economically attractive. However, battery storage systems (BSSs) and sector coupling with heat pumps (HPs) provide promising opportunities to increase PV self-consumption and the value of local energy generation, but change the dynamics of PV grid integration. Thus, an optimization model is proposed to enable all involved stakeholders to analyze interdependencies between different flexibility options for PV systems, incentive and grid integration. A case study-based approach allows an efficient evaluation of future PV systems with BSSs and HPs, the impact of such decentralized power-heat-storage systems on grid integration as well as proper incentive setting for sector coupling. The analysis shows that such shifting technologies are required to avoid undersizing of PV systems. BSSs only provide a benefit for the adoption of inflexible HPs, which is not preferable from a grid integration point of view. Operational incentives, such as peak charges and PV feed-in limits, offer a chance to foster PV grid integration and use new flexibilities in a grid-supporting way. The adoption of market-oriented operation leads to small benefit for such systems, which heavily rely on PV self-consumption.

    摘要: A large petrochemical company installed nearly 50 000 hp of electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) at an existing midwest U.S. oil ?eld. Being equipped with adjustable-speed drives (ASDs), these ESPs introduced high levels of current harmonic dis-tortion, which resulted in 14%–19% voltage harmonic distortion at the electrical utility supply. Initially, the utility noticed the low power factor (PF) and had the oil company pay for the installation of power factor correction (PFC) capacitors on their medium-voltage supply. Once installed, the utility began to have problems with these capacitors and continued to receive complaints from other customers adjacent to the oil ?eld; thus, they enforced har-monic limits, as de?ned by IEEE Std 519, at all points of common coupling. Measurements were made with a harmonic analyzer at several locations throughout the electrical system to quantify harmonics and determine the effect the ESPs were having on the utility distribution system. Computer simulations were performed to analyze different methods of harmonic mitigation. Ultimately, passive harmonic ?lters were installed on all ESPs in phases. In addition, the PFC capacitors were permanently disconnected after determining that a power system resonance condition existed. Once all phases of the project were complete, the voltage distortion level decreased to below 5%, and PF improved to near unity without the PFC capacitors. This paper will describe the effect of harmonics on the electrical distribution system caused by ASDs, practical solutions to excessive voltage harmonic distortion, reso-nance issues with PFC capacitors, and the challenges associated with different methods of harmonic mitigation.

    摘要: Photovoltaic water pumping systems are available as kits to supply water where the grid does not go. These kits usually are made by multinationals and based on specific components, making the most of small and very small companies, who usually install these systems, dependent on others. Thankfully these companies can develop their own solutions with standard frequency converters and AC pumps. An alternative is to connect the standard frequency converters to a photovoltaic string with a DC voltage of the order of some hundreds of volts. This implies in more than 2kW of power installed. For many applications, more than 2kW would be oversized. This paper presents a review of photovoltaic water pumping systems based on standard frequency converters and proposes new approaches for low power applications requiring only up to four modules. These approaches are being investigated and evaluated in cooperation with a company.

  • Feasibility of Photovoltaic Solar System for Rural Electrification

    摘要: Growth of our nation will totally depend upon rural development. Rural development is the main concern of growth of farmers. Farmers total growth depends upon their basic root cause of traditional farming to mould into advanced farming. Rural development of farmers through awareness of advantages of economical, clean, environment friendly, pollution free, of available renewable energy sources PV based rural electrification system for advanced farming. Rural electrification is an integral component of poverty alleviation and nation growth. Government of India has a target of solar rural electrification for irrigation through solar pumps, solar tractors, solar advanced farming equipments. Here, this research is helpful for finding out difficulties in rural electrification, awareness of policies, fundings, loan facilities, subsidies and training for the farmers. Also this research indentifies what Steps are to be initiated with Rural Electric corporation, power sector reforms and State Electricity boards. Also this research provides the features of rural electrification in India and the photovoltaic solar farming, solar home systems for rural electrification.

    摘要: The present paper deals with a speed sensorless technique of vector controlled induction motor drive fed from solar PV (Photovoltaic) array used for water pumping. This sensorless technique is based stator flux oriented in stationary reference frame. The special feature of the proposed topology is the additional feedforward loop added to the existing vector control loop, which makes it decoupled as a key feature of vector control. The mechanical sensorless induction motor drive is powered by solar photovoltaic (SPV) array to be utilized to drive the submersible water pump. The simulation of proposed topology is performed in MATLAB/Simulink environment and its performance is validated on test setup developed in the laboratory.
