Composite BNT-BT0.08/CoFe2O4 with core-shell nanostructure for piezoelectric and ferromagnetic applications
摘要: In this work, we report on the synthesis and characterization of BNT-BT0.08/CoFe2O4 biphasic composite with core-shell structure. This artificial core (BNT-BT0.08)/shell (CoFe2O4) heterostructure was prepared by sol-gel method and the resulting composite was characterized in term of microstructure, dielectric, piezoelectric and magnetic properties. BNT-BT0.08/CoFe2O4 sintered ceramic shows high permittivity (ε′ ≥ 30) and high dielectric losses (tan δ ≥ 10) in the low frequency range (ν ≤ 104 Hz), remnant polarization (Pr) of ~7.7 μC/cm2 and, remanent magnetization (Mr) of 24 emu/g at 5 K and of 14 emu/g, at room temperature. The present study reveals that the ferroelectric, piezoelectric and magnetic properties of this new architectured composite depend on the amount of each component and, can be tailored by adjusting their synthesis conditions. BNT-BT0.08/CoFe2O4 core-shell material investigated in this work provides a novel way to exploit new applications for the multifunctional composite, such as piezoelectric sensor, magnetoelectronic sensors and data storage devices.

An 82-m 9 Gb/s PAM4 FSO-POF-UWOC Convergent System
摘要: With the increasing demands in free-space/underwater environmental monitoring, disaster precaution, and manufacturing industry applications, free-space optical (FSO)-plastic optical fiber (POF)-underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) convergence is designed to be a promising framework for providing long-haul free-space with underwater links. An 82-m 9 Gb/s four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) system employing a 405-nm blue-light injection-locked laser diode (LD) is thereby offered and practically demonstrated. Results reveal that a 1.8-GHz 405-nm blue-light injection-locked LD can be effectively applied for a 9 Gb/s PAM4 signal transmission over 50 m FSO link, 30 m graded-index (GI)-POF transportation, and 2 m clear ocean underwater channel. To the authors’ understanding, this study is the first to practically build an 82-m 9 Gb/s PAM4 FSO-POF-UWOC convergent system that effectively constructs a long-haul optical wireless-wired-wireless link using doublet lenses, GI-POF, and optical beam reducer. The performances of the proposed convergent systems are analyzed by bit error rate and non-return-to-zero eye diagram in real-time over an 82-m transport. This framework is the leading one to establish a long-haul FSO-POF-UWOC convergent system with qualified transmission performances. It guides a promising way to facilitate wide applications in the convergence of FSO, POF and UWOC.

Measurement of bunch length evolution in electron beam macropulse of S-band linac using coherent edge radiation
摘要: Intense coherent edge radiation (CER) with a power of 0.10 mW was observed in a straight line with an undulator of Kyoto University Free Electron Laser (KU-FEL). To investigate the evolution of a bunch length in a macropulse of an electron beam, a technique was developed using the CER beam. The measured air-extracted CER beam pro?le has a hollow structure resembling the ?rst-order Laguerre–Gaussian mode with asymmetric intensity in horizontal direction. It roughly agrees with the pro?le calculated considering the effective area of a de?ection mirror employed to extract the beam from the FEL optical cavity into air. The root-mean-squared (RMS) bunch length determined from a measured spectrum of the CER beam is 60 μm for an electron-beam macropulse. Changes in the CER intensity in the electron-beam macropulse were measured by diode detectors with short time constants at two frequencies. The evolution of the RMS bunch length was determined using the ratio of the CER intensity at the two frequencies. It could be concluded that the evolution correlated with the macropulse structure of the FEL power. Therefore, measuring the evolution of the CER intensity at multiple frequencies proved useful to control FEL macropulses.

Survival and functionality of xeno-free human embryonic stem cell-derived retinal pigment epithelial cells on polyester substrate after transplantation in rabbits
摘要: Purpose: To study immunogenic properties of human embryonic stem cell–derived retinal pigment epithelium (hESC-RPE) and to evaluate subretinal xenotransplantation of hESC-RPE on porous polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in rabbits. Methods: Human ESC-RPE cells were characterized by morphology, transepithelial electrical resistance (TER), protein expression and photoreceptor outer segment phagocytosis in vitro. Expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins was assessed in conventionally or xeno-free produced hESC-RPE with interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) stimulation (n = 1). Xeno-free hESC-RPE on PET with TER < 200 Ω·cm2 or PET alone were transplanted into 18 rabbits with short-term triamcinolone with extended tacrolimus immunosuppression. Rabbits were monitored by spectral domain optical coherence tomography. After 4 weeks, the eyes were processed for histology and transmission electron microscopy. Results: Upon in vitro IFN-γ stimulation, xeno-free hESC-RPE expressed lower level of MHC-II proteins compared to the conventional cells. Outer nuclear layer (ONL) atrophy was observed over the graft in most cases 4 weeks post-transplantation. In 3/4 animals with high TER hESC-RPE, but only in 1/3 animals with low TER hESC-RPE, ONL atrophy was observed already within 1 week. Retinal cell infiltrations were more frequent in animals with high TER hESC-RPE. However, the difference was not statistically significant. In three animals, preservation of ONL was observed. Weekly intravitreal tacrolimus did not affect ONL preservation. In all animals, hESC-RPE cells survived for 4 weeks, but without tacrolimus, enlarged vacuoles accumulated in hESC-RPE (n = 1). Conclusions: Xenografted xeno-free hESC-RPE monolayers can survive and retain some functionality for 4 weeks following short-term immunosuppression. The preliminary findings of this study suggest that further investigations to improve transplantation success of hESC-RPE xenografts in rabbits should be addressed especially toward the roles of hESC-RPE maturation stage and extended intravitreal immunosuppression.

Interference-free surface-enhanced Raman scattering nanosensor for imaging and dynamic monitoring of reactive oxygen species in mitochondria during photothermal therapy
摘要: Highly reliable detection, imaging, and monitoring of reactive oxygen species (ROS) at subcellular organelles are critical for understanding the biological roles of ROS and learning the pathogenesis of some diseases. In this study, we presented an interference-free surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-active nanoprobe for the intracellular ROS detection. This nanoprobe was designed as an Au core-Ag shell nanoparticle (Au@Ag NPs) with a SERS reporter (4-mercaptobenzonitrile) resided in the inner of the core-shell. Intracellular ROS is able to etch the Ag shell and dramatically decreases the SERS intensity of the SERS reporters. It is worth mentioning that the Raman band of the reporter we used in this study locate in the cellular Raman-silent region (1800?2800 cm?1), which eliminates interference possibility from cellular molecules. The shell can also further protect the reporters from the interference of mediums. We detected ROS at subcellular organelle level, e.g. mitochondria, by modifying the surface of the nanoprobes with a mitochondria-targeting peptide. And for the first time, the SERS-based monitoring of ROS at mitochondria during the photothermal therapy process was validated and the profiles of the ROS distribution were disclosed by SERS mapping.

Bright red-emitting highly reliable styryl probe with large stokes shift for visualizing mitochondria in live cells under wash-free conditions
摘要: Bright red-emitting pyridinium cyanine based styryl probe 2 is synthesized in good yields. Probe 2 demonstrated a large Stokes’ shift (Δλ ≈ 128 nm, 4227 cm-1 in DCM) and excellent fluorescent quantum yield (?fl ≈ 0.2 - 0.7) due to strong Intra-molecular charge transfer (ICT). Probe 2 found to exhibit exceptional selectivity for cellular mitochondria in both normal (COS-7) and cancer (A549) cell lines. Probe 2 is readily applicable as a “wash-free” dye to visualize mitochondria as it does not require post-staining washing prior to imaging. Styryl probe 2 also showed an excellent biocompatibility as the calculated LC50 (lethal concentration, 50%) value was > 20 μM. Probe 2 emission did not show any interferences from anionic species or other biological molecules. Probe 2 is readily excitable (λex ~460 and λem ~618 nm) with the available laser (454 nm) in commercial microscopes and thus it can be a useful probe for mitochondrial tracking in live cells.

Development of a Mixed Halide-chalcogenide Bismuth-based Perovskite MABiI <sub/>2</sub> S with Small Bandgap and Wide Absorption Range
摘要: During the last years, the lead perovskites have achieved high power conversion efficiency of 23%. However, its long-term stability and toxicity are still the crucial issues that required attention. In this study, we are the first to report on the synthesis and characterizations of a new lead-free mixed halide-chalcogenide perovskite MABiI2S (MBIS), and determined its physical and optical properties by various testing methods. The MBIS has a low bandgap of 1.52 eV, with an extended absorption onset up to over 1000 nm. Solar cells fabricated with the MBIS were inspected and device improvement were applied.

Performance Evaluation of Hybrid FSO-SACOCDMA System under Different Weather Conditions
摘要: Spectral amplitude coding optical code division multiple access (SACOCDMA) is a multiplexing technique, which provides faster speed, efficiency, security and unlimited bandwidth. It is widely preferred because of its ability to eliminate multiple access interference (MAI). Free space optics (FSO) provides a wireless link to transmit data securely at higher rates for last mile access. In this work, a 100 Gb/s hybrid FSO-SACOCDMA is designed using direct detection. The performance of FSO using SACOCDMA utilizing NZCC (New Zero Cross Correlation) code is evaluated under different weather conditions (clear weather, haze and fog) for ten users where each user carries 10 Gb/s. The results indicate that in clear weather FSO distance can be extended up to 13 km. Moreover, after using pre-amplifier in clear weather, FSO enhances the maximum distance to 35 km with acceptable signal to noise ratio and bit error rate. Using an amplifier in the link not only makes the quality of the signal better but it also increases the communication range.

Aberrated Microlenses to Reduce Crosstalk in Free Space Optical Interconnects Systems
摘要: A free space optical interconnects system that uses Gaussian beams and focusing microlenses with spherical aberration has been considered. Numerical results show that the use of microlenses with negative spherical improves the signal-to-crosstalk ratio of the interconnects system at some optimum positions of the detector array. An expression for output field at the detectors plane is derived and used to evaluate the signal-to-crosstalk ratio.

Doping modulation of quasi-free-standing monolayer graphene formed on SiC(0001) through Sn1-Ge intercalation
摘要: In order to modulate the transfer doping of quasi-free-standing monolayer graphene (QFMLG) formed on SiC(0001), Ge atoms were intercalated additionally into QFMLG already formed by Sn intercalation between ZL and 6H-SiC(0001). By postannealing the Ge-deposited surface at 600 °C, the Sn1-xGex film with the 4 × √3 structure, composed of a bilayer and adatoms with dangling bonds under QFMLG, has been formed. It turns out that, in this Sn1-xGex film, Ge atoms preferentially occupy the bottom layer bound to the top Si atoms of the substrate, while Sn atoms occupy the top adatom sites. Strong correlation among the electrons localized at these adatom sites induces a semiconducting alloy film. As the postannealing temperature is increased up to 800 °C, the concentration of Ge in the intercalated film of the same 4 × √3 structure is gradually increased and the Dirac point also shifts gradually from ?0.16 eV to +0.20 eV relative to the Fermi level. Such a result confirms that the transfer doping of QFMLG on SiC(0001) has been modulated by varying the alloy composition of the Sn1-xGex interfacial film.
