  • Direct Construction of Mesoporous Metal Sulfides via Reactive Spray Deposition Technology

    摘要: A rapid one-step flame combustion deposition method was developed to fabricate the mesoporous metal sulfides directly on nickel foam without binder and template. The first-row transition metal sulfides, Co9S8, Ni3S4, NiCo2S4 and FeS, were successfully synthesized with three-dimensional architecture, large specific surface area (around 110 m2 g-1), and interconnected pore networks. The binary meso-NiCo2S4 exhibited a high specific capacitance (1350 F g-1 at 10 A g-1), excellent rate capability and robust cycling stability in both three-electrode half-cells and asymmetric supercapacitor. This study demonstrated a new scalable strategy to obtain mesoporous metal sulfides with high electrochemical performance.

    摘要: The growth in demand of high data rate, reliable quality of service, low cost technology and secured connectivity have been telecommunication users' concerns. Free Space Optics (FSO) is the best choice for meeting these demands as it offers data rates in Gbps with the most secure communication because light beam is prone to eavesdropping. However, usage of FSO as a communication link relies upon local weather condition. Atmospheric attenuation of fog, rain and snow are the most limitation of free space optic availability, as they lead to the diminution of limited available bandwidth. This paper investigated the link performance under climatic conditions such as fog, rain and snow by at various wavelengths of 650nm, 750nm, 850nm, 950nm and 1550nm. It is further deals with FSO performance targeting to acquire minimal Bit Error Rate (BER), suitable transmitting power, optimum link margin and reliable data transmission rate at maximum link distance of 1km. The studies observed that received power signal and the link distance have an inverse correlation because once the signal reaches to an extended distance; it faces greater climatic attenuation due to scattering and absorption lessening.

    摘要: Demand for data and multi-media services in recent times has really grown and it is expected to grow more in the next decade with application ranges from high speed real-time/live streaming to live video-conferencing, and so the demand for new and richer data services to meet up with the new and more advanced applications. In other to meet up with these great users’ expectations, there is a need to explore other viable access network technologies that can offer services beyond what is already in the offering. Free space optical (FSO) communication system is the predominant choice to replace existing wireless technology with great availability of link capacity and huge bandwidth to meet the user’s expectation of the 21st century. This system is reliant on optics signal transmitted in a free space channel, hence termed FSO. This type of communication does not require any licenses for its operation and offers many features being the low-start up and operational cost, rapid development and high fiber-like bandwidth. FSO uses line-of-sight path for the communication between two points and beam of light to provide optical connection that can send and receive video, voice and data information. This technology provides a massive and unregulated bandwidth where a data rate in excess of 100Gbit/s is achievable over a distance of 1-4km. However, it suffers from degradation in the signal quality due to its susceptibility to atmospheric channel impairments which limits its wide deployment and quality of services. This paper explores the FSO system, atmospheric effects of implementing this system and mitigating techniques.

  • Physical Layer Security of Hybrid Satellite-FSO Cooperative Systems

    摘要: In this paper, we study the physical layer secrecy performance of a hybrid satellite and free-space optical (FSO) cooperative system. The satellite links are assumed to follow the Shadowed-Rician fading distribution; and the channel of the terrestrial link between the relay and destination is assumed to experience the Gamma-Gamma fading. For the FSO communications, the effects of different types of detection techniques (i.e., heterodyne detection and intensity modulation with direct detection) as well as the pointing error are considered. We derive exact analytical expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) and secrecy outage probability (SOP) for both cases of Amplify-and-Forward (AF) and Decode-and-Forward (DF) relaying. The asymptotic analysis for the SOP is also conducted to provide more insights on the impact of FSO and satellite channels on secrecy performance. It is found that with the AF with fixed gain scheme, the secrecy diversity order of the investigated system is only dependent on the channel characteristics of the FSO link and the FSO detection type, whereas the secrecy diversity is zero when the relay node employs DF or AF with variable-gain schemes.

The results demonstrate its potential for wearable health monitoring applications.

  • Size-Dependent Buckling and Vibrations of Piezoelectric Nanobeam with Finite Element Method

    摘要: In the present paper, a finite element method is used to study the vibrations and buckling of a piezoelectric nanobeam. The beam theory used here is Bernoulli–Euler model. In order to achieve the goal, first, the governing equations of the piezoelectric nanobeam were obtained via the Hamilton principle, based on the higher-order theory such as modified couple stress. The shape functions were embedded in these equations, and the matrix form of the equations was obtained. In other words, the governing equations were discretized by the finite element method. By calculating the matrix form of equations, mass matrices, mechanical stiffness and electrical stiffness of the beam were obtained. It should be noted that when calculating stiffness matrices, first, the definition of a new element must be added to the effects of the electric field in the elements of the beam, and the effects of the gradient of strain should be added in the form of non-classical matrix to the stiffness matrix. With the aid of these critical load matrices, the buckling force and voltage and the natural frequency of the piezoelectric nanobeam have been calculated. Numerical results show that this method can involve the size effects.

  • Growth of high quality AlN/sapphire templates with high growth rate using a medium-temperature layer

    摘要: In this work, crack-free 3.3-μm-thick AlN ?lms with high crystalline quality and atomic smooth surfaces were achieved on sapphire substrates at a high growth rate of 2.9 μm/h. Double-axis x-ray rocking curves showed a full width at half maximum of 315 and 419 arc sec for (0002) and (101ˉ2) re?ections, respectively, corresponding to a total threading dislocation (TD) density of 9.79 × 10^8 cm^-2. Cracks were suppressed and crystalline quality was improved by introducing a medium-temperature (MT) layer. It was found that the density of both screw- and edge-type TDs could be signi?cantly reduced by introducing the MT-AlN layer under appropriate temperature. The crystalline improvement is attributed to the delayed coalescence of the AlN islands and higher probability for the annihilations of TDs by the MT-AlN layer under appropriate temperature. This method provides a promising way in growing practical thick AlN templates suitable for large-scale industrial production.

  • An Enzyme-free “ON-OFF” Electrochemiluminescence Biosensor for Ultrasensitive Detection of PML/RARα based on Target-Switched DNA Nanotweezer

    摘要: Herein, an enzyme-free "ON-OFF" electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for ultrasensitive detection of fusion gene PML/RARα is constructed based on a simple target-switched DNA nanotweezer as hemin concentration controller. In this biosensor, the hemin concentration is primarily controlled by the conversion of "opened-closed" DNA nanotweezers and low concentration hemin is first used as electrochemically regenerable enhancer. In the absence of the target, the nanotweezers are in an opened state which lead to a low concentration of hemin in the solution, resulting in an enhanced Ru(bpy)3 2+ ECL signal. In the presence of the target, the closed nanotweezers absorbed onto the surface of electrode can capture the hemin, which achieves a high concentration of hemin and then quenches the ECL signal. The developed method achieves ultrasensitive detection of PML/RARα with a wide linear range from 1 fM to 1 nM and limit of detection as low as 0.125 fM. In addition, the ECL biosensor shows excellent specificity to the other subtypes of PML/RARα (subtype "S", "V", "PML" and "RARα"). Moreover, due to the high designable character of DNA nanotweezer, this method might provide a pragmatic Ru(bpy)3 2+ ECL platform for ultrasensitive detection of nucleic acid in the future.

  • Lead-free Ag <sub/> 1-3 <i>x</i> </sub> La <sub/><i>x</i> </sub> NbO <sub/>3</sub> Antiferroelectric Ceramics with High Energy Storage Density and Efficiency

    摘要: Environmentally benign lead-free bulk ceramics with high recoverable energy density (Wrec) are very attractive in advanced pulsed power capacitors. In this work, composition engineering was adopted by La3+ modification to improve the energy storage performance of Ag1-3xLaxNbO3 ceramics. It was found the antiferroelectric (AFE) phase was stabilized after La3+ substitution, as a result of the reduced tolerance factor t. Significant improvement of Wrec and energy storage efficiency (η) were achieved with value of 3.12 J/cm3 and 0.63 for x=0.02 at an electric field of 230 kV/cm, more than 1.5 times the value of pure AgNbO3 (Wrec=1.9 J/cm3, η=0.40). The excellent energy storage properties are resulted from the increased antiferroelectric-ferroelectric phase transition electric field (EF), ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transition electric field (EA) and breakdown electric field (Eb). The enhanced Eb was ascribed to the decreased grain size and increased electrical resistivity upon La3+ modification. The feature makes Ag1-3xLaxNbO3 a potential candidate for energy storage applications.

    摘要: Fatigue failure of solder joints is one of the most common methods by which electronic packages fail. Electronic assemblies usually must cope with a temperature varying environment. Due to the mismatches in coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs) of the various assembly materials, the solder joints are subjected to cyclic thermal-mechanical loading during temperature cycling. The main focus of this work is to investigate the changes in microstructure that occur in SAC305 and SAC+Bi lead free solders subjected to mechanical cycling. In this paper, we report on results for the SAC+Bi solder commonly known as SAC_Q or CYCLOMAX. Uniaxial solder specimens were prepared in glass tubes, and the outside surfaces were polished. A nanoindenter was then used to mark fixed regions on the samples for subsequent microscopy evaluation. The samples were subjected to mechanical cycling, and the microstructures of the selected fixed regions were recorded after various durations of cycling using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Using the recorded images, it was observed that the cycling induced damage consisted primarily of small intergranular cracks forming along the subgrain boundaries within dendrites. These cracks continued to grow as the cycling continued, resulting in a weakening of the dendrite structure, and eventually to the formation of large transgranular cracks. The distribution and size of the intermetallic particles in the inter-dendritic regions were observed to remain essentially unchanged.
