[IEEE 2018 International Flexible Electronics Technology Conference (IFETC) - Ottawa, ON, Canada (2018.8.7-2018.8.9)] 2018 International Flexible Electronics Technology Conference (IFETC) - Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of Carbon-based Stretchable RFID Tags on Textile Substrates
摘要: We fabricate carbon-based stretchable antennas for passive UHF RFID tags. The tag antennas are created on a stretchable elastic band by brush-painting. In addition to wireless evaluation of the fabricated RFID tags before and after cyclic stretching, the properties of the novel carbon-based antenna material are studied. The wireless performance of the established RFID tags is compared to similar stretchable silver-based RFID tags. Based on the achieved results, the established carbon-based tag antennas do not perform in the same high level as the silver-based tag antennas but their read ranges of around 2 to 2.4 meters are suitable for versatile textile-integrated RFID applications. Stretching causes permanent decrease to the tag read range but they remain functional even after 100 stretching cycles. These preliminary results are very promising, considering the current trend towards more environmentally friendly and cost-effective materials in electronics.

Fast and accurate model for a coax-fed rectangular patch antenna with varying aspect ratio, feed location and substrate electrical parameters
摘要: An improved closed-form model based on cavity model and single resonant parallel R-L-C circuit analysis is proposed to predict the resonant frequency, quality factor, bandwidth, gain and input impedance of a coax-fed rectangular patch antenna as a function of aspect ratio, feed location and substrate electrical parameters. The computed values employing the present model are compared with our experimental results and experimental results available in open literature. We have also employed electromagnetic high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS) software to validate the model. The present model shows very close agreements with the experimental and simulation results compared to the other models. This model is very simple, fast and accurate. The present model can be directly applied to CAD program.

摘要: This paper presents a miniaturized inverted C shaped patch antenna with defected ground structure (DGS), which exhibits an axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 1.1 GHz (from 11.79 GHz to 12.89 GHz) within an impedance bandwidth (IBW) of 6.9 GHz (from 9.1 GHz to 16 GHz), with a maximum realized gain of 3.23 dBi. The antenna size is only 15x10x1.524 mm3. These features make the proposed antenna the best candidate for compactness wireless applications such as radar, satellite communications, and wireless computer networks.

摘要: In this work, particle swarm optimization (PSO) based approach to the synthesis of a cylindrical-rectangular ring microstrip conformal antenna using support vector regression (SVR) models is presented. Resonant frequency of the antenna is obtained by PSO of trained SVR models. Radial basis function (RBF) and wavelet kernel functions are used in SVR models. Simulation examples are given and the results are compared.

Design of terahertz photoconductive antenna arrays based on defective photonic crystal substrates
摘要: In this paper, arrays of two different terahertz (THz) antennas based on defective photonic crystal (DPC) substrates are proposed and their radiation characteristics are investigated by using full-wave simulation. We show that employing DPC substrates in THz photoconductive antenna (PCA) arrays reduces the amount of power coupled to the substrate surface waves and, as a result, decreases the mutual coupling between the elements of the antenna array and increases the directivity in the boresight direction. By studying 1 × 2 arrays of bowtie and four-leaf-clover-shaped antennas, we show that either the improvement of directivity in a broad bandwidth or the enhancement of photomixer antenna impedance at a resonant frequency can be considered in the design of the DPC substrate. Therefore, the proposed approach can significantly improve the efficiency and radiation performance of THz photomixer antennas resulting in an improved effective THz radiated power in the desirable direction. The proposed DPC substrate can be considered as a way to realize sub-millimeter-sized dielectric resonator antennas at terahertz frequencies. In addition, this cost-effective technique can reduce the necessity of exploiting hyper-hemispherical Si lenses by overcoming the adverse effects of the thick substrate which is of prime importance in PCA arrays from a practical viewpoint.

摘要: An ultrathin metasurface is made reconfigurable through the use of unit cells incorporating voltage-controlled varactor diodes. The phase characteristics of each unit cell are individually controlled for reconfigurability mechanisms. Two main applications are proposed in the domain of microwave devices and antennas. The planar metasurface is illuminated by a primary source and is firstly used as reconfigurable reflector allowing beam steering performances and frequency agility. A second functionality is also demonstrated, where the metasurface is used as a reconfigurable polarizer. Measurements are performed on a fabricated prototype to validate the concept.

摘要: A circularly polarized patch antenna for future fifth-generation mobile phones is presented in this paper. Miniaturization and beamwidth enhancement of a patch antenna are the two main areas to be discussed. By folding the edge of the radiating patch with loading slots, the size of the patch antenna is 44.8% smaller than a conventional half wavelength patch, which allows it to be accommodated inside handsets easily. Wide beamwidth is obtained by surrounding the patch with a dielectric substrate and supporting the antenna by a metallic block. A measured half power beamwidth of 124? is achieved. The impedance bandwidth of the antenna is over 10%, and the 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth is 3.05%. The proposed antenna covers a wide elevation angle and complete azimuth range. A parametric study of the effect of the metallic block and the surrounding dielectric substrate on the gain at a low elevation angle and the axial ratio of the proposed antenna are presented.

Two electrically small, near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) antennas are first designed. Both are based on a coax-fed dipole antenna. An electric dipole response is obtained by combining it with a tunable Egyptian axe dipole (EAD) NFRP element. A magnetic dipole response is obtained by spatially loading the driven dipole with tunable, extruded capacitively loaded loop (CLL) NFRP elements. The driven dipole and the EAD and CLL NFRP elements are combined together and retuned to achieve a broadside radiating Huygens source antenna. Two different designs, one with two CLL elements and one with four, are obtained, and their performance characteristics are compared.
