  • Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum against Acid Activation: Impact of Benzothiazole-Substituted Gallium Phthalocyanine

    摘要: This study describes the adsorption behavior of organic inhibitors at the aluminum-HCl solution interface and their corrosion inhibition performance. The organic inhibitors employed are: 4-(benzo [d]thiazol-2ylthio)phthalonitrile (BTThio) and tetrakis[(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl-thio)phthalocyaninato]gallium(III) chloride (ClGaBTThioPc). The corrosion behavior of these inhibitors is investigated using electrochemical and computational techniques. Open circuit potential results reveal predominant cathodic character for the mechanism of aluminum corrosion inhibition by the inhibitors. Inhibition efficiency values from potentiodynamic polarization measurements increase from 46.9 to 70.8% for BTThio and 59.7 to 81.0% for ClGaBTThioPc within the concentration range of 2 to 10 μM. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements reveal protection of the metal surface from acid attack, in the presence of the inhibitors and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) measurements show that the most probable way by which the inhibitors protect the metal surface would be by shielding it from the corrosion attacks of Cl? from the acid. Quantum chemical parameters corroborate well with experimental findings.

  • The rotationally modulated polarization of ξ Boo A

    摘要: We have observed the active star ξ Boo A (HD 131156A) with high precision broadband linear polarimetry contemporaneously with circular spectropolarimetry. We find both signals are modulated by the 6.43 d rotation period of ξ Boo A. The signals from the two techniques are 0.25 out of phase, consistent with the broadband linear polarization resulting from differential saturation of spectral lines in the global transverse magnetic field. The mean magnitude of the linear polarization signal is ~4 ppm G–1 but its structure is complex and the amplitude of the variations suppressed relative to the longitudinal magnetic field. The result has important implications for current attempts to detect polarized light from hot Jupiters orbiting active stars in the combined light of the star and planet. In such work stellar activity will manifest as noise, both on the time-scale of stellar rotation, and on longer time-scales – where changes in activity level will manifest as a baseline shift between observing runs.

  • Low-Threshold-Voltage and Electrically Switchable Polarization-Selective Scattering Mode Liquid Crystal Light Shutters

    摘要: Low-threshold-voltage (Vth) and electrically switchable, polarization-selective scattering mode light shutters (PSMLSs) using polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) are demonstrated in this work. The optimized weight ratio of the nematic liquid crystals (LCs) to the adopted monomer (NBA107, Norland Optics) in the low-Vth PDLCs based on NBA107 is 7:3, [7:3]-PDLCsNBA107. The properties of the low-Vth PDLCsNBA107, such as light-scattering performance, initial transmission, Vth, and droplet size were investigated. Experiment results show that the surface anchoring (threshold-voltage) of NBA107 is weaker (lower) than or equal to that of the common NOA65. The cost is that the response time of the proposed PDLCsNBA107 is relatively long. A method to reduce the decay time, which can be applied to all other PDLC devices, will be elucidated. In addition to the low Vth of the proposed PDLCsNBA107, the operation voltage (~6 Vrms) to approach the maximum transmission is relatively low in a 7 μm-thick PDLCsNBA107 cell. Moreover, the polarization-selective light-scattering performances of the proposed PSMLSs based on the [7:3]-PDLCsNBA107, mainly driven by in-plane and vertical fields, are also demonstrated.

    摘要: This paper presents a novel angle-based chipless RFID tag with high capacity. It encodes the information with the angle between two arms of the X-shaped scatterer and is identified through the orthogonal polarization. The advantage of this type of tag is that every unit can encode multi-bit information. Also, for different codes of one unit, the proposed tag occupies the same spectrum. This is helpful to improve the spectrum efficiency. Based on this, the tag is used to design the resistance transducer.

  • Angle-Polarization Estimation for Coherent Sources with Linear Tripole Sensor Arrays

    摘要: We propose a parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis-based angle and polarization estimation algorithm for multiple coherent sources using a uniformly-spaced linear tripole sensor array. By forming a PARAFAC model using the spatial signature of the tripole array, the new algorithm requires neither spatial smoothing nor vector-field smoothing to decorrelate the signal coherency. We also establish that the angle-polarization parameters of K coherent signals can be uniquely determined by PARAFAC analysis, as long as the number of tripoles L ≥ 2K ? 1. In addition, the proposed algorithm can offer enhanced angle and polarization estimation accuracy by extending the interspacing of the tripoles beyond a half wavelength.

    摘要: This paper presents a broadband circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna. The proposed antenna is designed using an octagonal patch, finite ground plane with L shaped slot and two L shaped strips placed orthogonal to each other. By utilising the strips, Broadband, Axial Ratio bandwidth (ARBW) is achieved. From simulated results, impedance bandwidth (?10 dB) is 5.8 GHz (9.8 GHz–15.6 GHz) and AR bandwidth (3 dB) of the antenna is 7.3 GHz (8.7 GHz–16 GHz). The antenna is proposed with a simple structure and broadband circularly polarized, which is used widely for X-Band applications.

    摘要: A dual-polarized lens antenna system based on isotropic Huygens’ Surfaces is proposed for 12 GHz applications. The multimode resonances of the unit cell of the surface lens are detailed analyzed. Then, a broadband dual-polarized microstrip antenna is combined with the lens as the primary feed to form a lens antenna system. The simulated results demonstrate that the prototype can realize input ports isolation of more than 25 dB, and the gain of more than 17.5 dB over a wide bandwidth (11 ~ 13.5 GHz).

  • Multi-band Polarimetry of the Lunar Surface. II. Grain Size Evolutionary Pathway

    摘要: To understand grain size evolution on the lunar surface in detail, we analyze the distribution of the average grain size dá ? for the lunar near side obtained by Jeong et al. Furthermore, we analyze the polarimetric properties of the regolith simulants SiC and JSC-1A in a laboratory. We ?nd two characteristics of grain size evolution on the Moon. First, the lunar regolith has evolved on a speci?c evolutionary pathway in dá ? F– space. Here, Φ is de?ned as the ratio of the perpendicular (I^) and parallel (I?) components of the re?ectance. Second, we also ?nd that the evolutionary pathway depends on the FeO abundance and selenographic latitude of the surface. The dependence on the FeO content seems to result from the different resistance to comminution of regolith materials, and the dependence on the latitude seems to result from differences in the resurfacing environment. We present the probable causes of these characteristics of grain size evolution on the lunar surface.

  • Polarization dependent five-band terahertz metamaterial using two resonators

    摘要: In this paper, we present a multi-band terahertz metamaterial composed of two hexagonal shaped metallic resonators supported by a Teflon dielectric substrate. The performance characteristics of the proposed structure are evaluated numerically using CST Microwave Studio software. The design has polarization sensitive and angle independent operational nature. The designed structure resonates at five frequencies: 0.19 THz, 0.3 THz, 0.47 THz, 0.5 THz, and 0.61 THz in transverse electric mode. The underlying concept of multi-band resonances has been understood by obtaining the electric field.

  • Arbitrary Polarization Conversion with a Photonic Crystal Slab

    摘要: It is shown that a simple photonic crystal slab structure provides a powerful mechanism for the control of the polarization properties of light. For a lossless system, for a given incident light with any fixed polarization, one can generate arbitrary polarization in the reflected light, as one varies the direction of the incident light. In the lossy system, the capability for arbitrary polarization generation is still preserved for s- or p-polarized incident light. This capability for arbitrary polarization generation closely relates to the nontrivial topological properties of the reflection matrix of the structure and exists over a wide range of frequencies.
