  • Research on multi-camera calibration and point cloud correction method based on three-dimensional calibration object

    摘要: The single camera measurement system can’t obtain all the surface information of the object limited by the field of view, thus it can’t achieve complete measurement of the object. Multi-camera system can overcome this difficulty. But it is difficult to unify the coordinate system of distinct cameras. In order to solve this problem, a global calibration method of multi-camera system is proposed. A three-dimensional cube calibration object is designed. Every camera is only calibrated on one surface of the cube calibration object. Because different surfaces of the cube calibration object are in a unified world coordinate, the coordinates of the feature points on different surfaces are naturally in the unified world coordinate system. Thus global calibration can be completed by calibrating multiple cameras at the same time. In addition, to minimize the error of calibration, a correction method is proposed. The correction parameters are obtained by the deviation between the world coordinates and the reconstructed coordinates of the feature points on calibration object. The parameters are applied to the measurement to improve the accuracy of the whole point cloud. Experiments are carried out on a multi-camera measurement system, and the results show that the method proposed in this paper is effective and feasible.

    摘要: Achieving truthful reproduction of color is a well-known problem for printing applications. In this paper, we evaluate different methods for camera color calibration, within the scope of a moving image acquisition system. The acquisition device consists of a RGB camera and two fixed tungsten lamps. Our goal is to determine the most robust end-to-end framework given the acquisition conditions. We tested some color mapping methods commonly mentioned in the literature and made modifications to our specific needs. Our modified 3D lookup table (LUT) based method performs the best in the given conditions with future possibilities of hybrid LUTs combining the best performing aspects of different types of LUTs.

  • Sky camera geometric calibration using solar observations

    摘要: A camera model and associated automated calibration procedure for stationary daytime sky imaging cameras is presented. The specific modeling and calibration needs are motivated by remotely deployed cameras used to forecast solar power production where cameras point skyward and use 180° fisheye lenses. Sun position in the sky and on the image plane provides a simple and automated approach to calibration; special equipment or calibration patterns are not required. Sun position in the sky is modeled using a solar position algorithm (requiring latitude, longitude, altitude and time as inputs). Sun position on the image plane is detected using a simple image processing algorithm. The performance evaluation focuses on the calibration of a camera employing a fisheye lens with an equisolid angle projection, but the camera model is general enough to treat most fixed focal length, central, dioptric camera systems with a photo objective lens. Calibration errors scale with the noise level of the sun position measurement in the image plane, but the calibration is robust across a large range of noise in the sun position. Calibration performance on clear days ranged from 0.94 to 1.24 pixels root mean square error.

  • Diode Array Near Infrared Spectrometer Calibrations for Composition Analysis of Single Plant Canola (Brassica napus) Seed

    摘要: A canola breeder needs an accurate, rapid, non-destructive method for analyzing seeds from a single plant to select the most promising samples for further breeding trials. Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) is widely used for quantitative analysis of oilseeds in a non-destructive manner. This research was aimed at developing NIRS calibration models for single plant canola seed using a diode array NIRS (950-1650 nm wavelength range), multivariate prediction models, and a mirrored sample cup. Eighteen different NIRS calibration models were developed using 100 samples for each constituent with different pre-processing techniques (mean center, derivatives, variates) and models (PLS, PCR). The relative performance of different calibration models for each constituent was compared using R2, SEP, and ratio performance deviation (RPD) values obtained from the validation set of 30 samples. NIRS models developed using the PLS regression algorithm for moisture content (R2 = 0.97, SEP = 0.32, RPD = 6.13) and oil content (R2 = 0.84, SEP = 0.61, RPD = 4.16) were successful. However, acceptable NIRS models were not obtained for fatty acid and glucosinolates content likely due to limited variability and low levels of the constituent and a narrow wavelength range of the DA-NIR instrument.

  • Geometric Calibration of Markerless Optical Surgical Navigation System

    摘要: Background: Patient-to-image registration is required for image-guided surgical navigation, but marker-based registration is time consuming and subject to manual error. Markerless registration is an alternative solution to avoid these issues. Methods: This study designs a calibration board and proposes a geometric calibration method to calibrate the near infrared tracking and structured light components of the proposed optical surgical navigation system simultaneously. Results: A planar board and a cylinder are used to evaluate the accuracy of calibration. The mean error for the board experiment is 0.035 mm, and the diameter error for the cylinder experiment is 0.119 mm. A calibration board is reconstructed to evaluate the accuracy of the calibration, and the measured mean error is 0.012 mm. A head phantom is reconstructed and tracked by the proposed optical surgical navigation system. The tracking error is less than 0.3 mm. Conclusions: Experimental results show that the proposed method obtains high accessibility and accuracy and satisfies application requirements.

    摘要: Although the digital camera is readily available and the price is decreasing, many users still consider it an expensive device that can be dispensed with by using a smartphone camera. However, both the digital camera and the smartphone need to be calibrated to extract three dimensional (3D) space information from (2D) and to obtain accurate results. This study used close range photogrammetry to calibrate two high resolution digital cameras and a Samsung Galaxy smartphone to find whether any one of them give high accuracy 3D coordinates of the retro-reflective targets that were determined using the self-calibration bundle adjustment method in two phases. The first phase is during walking when 3 trials are conducted. The same three cameras are used for each trial. The second phase is during standing when one trial is conducted. Each of the camera types is placed in front of the platform. The results showed that arguably, the Samsung Galaxy S6 camera is most significant than other cameras in term of accuracy. In addition, this study provides information on how to calibrate one board from other board that has already been calibrated.

    摘要: At Tor Vergata University we are working on measurements and phenomenological characterization of urban, suburban and country radar clutter at X-band (3 cm wavelength, range resolution 8 to 10 m, azimuth resolution @ 1 km about 23.5 m) and on the related radar calibration problems. Measurements are 'high resolution' when compared to most surveillance radars, and the related applications are in the frame of clutter maps for cognitive radar, drones detection, radar ornithology, and more. After calibration, done using opportunity targets with known radar cross section and a clutter fence, we carry on an analysis and a comparison of land clutter, considering different weather conditions: dry and wet soil, as well as the rare event of snow. Using fixed opportunity targets, such as lamppost and/or a large cylindrical steel tanker, we describe the attenuation effects due to the natural clutter fence (in this case due to cane thicket near to the target position) and its mitigation when the natural fence is gradually removed. Finally, but importantly, we analyze the multipath phenomenon due to reflection/scattering on ground, and propose a procedure to estimate the multipath factor and to correct for it.

  • A variable importance criterion for variable selection in near-infrared spectral analysis

    摘要: Variable selection is a universal problem in building multivariate calibration models, such as quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) and quantitative relationships between quantity or property and spectral data. Significant improvement in the prediction ability of the models can be achieved by reducing the bias induced by the uninformative variables. A new criterion, named as C, is proposed in this study to evaluate the importance of the variables in a model. The value of C is defined as the average contribution of a variable to the model, which is calculated by the statistics of the models built with different combinations of the variables. In the calculation, a large number of partial least squares (PLS) models are built using a subset of variables selected by randomly re-sampling. Then, a vector of the prediction errors, in terms of root mean squared error of cross validation (RMSECV), and a matrix composed of 1 and 0 indicating the selected and unselected variables can be obtained. If multiple linear regression (MLR) is employed to model the relationship between the RMSECVs and the matrix, the coefficients of the MLR model can be used as a criterion to evaluate the contribution of a variable to the RMSECV. To enhance the efficiency of the method, a multi-step shrinkage strategy was used. Comparison with Monte Carlo-uninformative variables elimination (MC-UVE), randomization test (RT) and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) was conducted using three NIR benchmark datasets. The results show that the proposed criterion is effective for selecting the informative variables from the spectra to improve the prediction ability of models.

  • Driver’s eye-based gaze tracking system by one-point calibration

    摘要: The accuracies of driver’s gaze detection by previous researches are affected by the various sitting positions and heights of drivers in case that initial calibration of driver is not performed. By using dual cameras, the driver’s calibration can be omitted, but processing time with complexity is increased. In addition, the problem of disappearing corneal specular reflection (SR) in the eye image as the driver severely turns his/her head has not been dealt in previous researches. To consider these issues, we propose a gaze tracking method based on driver’s one-point calibration using both corneal SR and medial canthus (MC) based on maximum entropy criterion. An experiment with collected data from 26 subjects (wearing nothing, glasses, sunglasses, hat, or taking various hand pose) in a vehicle, showed that the accuracy of the proposed method is higher than that of other gaze tracking methods. In addition, we showed the effectiveness of our method in the real driving environment.
