  • Раrаdохical Sесоndаrу Emissiоn Mаss Sресtrum оf thе Lеuсо Fоrm оf Mеthуlеnе Bluе

    摘要: A paradoxical relation between the secondary emission mass spectra of Methylene Blue and its leuco form is revealed: in the mass spectrum of the dye cation Cat+ (oxidized form with the molecular weight 284), an intense product of its reduction with m/z 285 is recorded, while the mass spectrum of the leuco dye (reduced form with the molecular weight 285) corresponds to an oxidized form with a dominating peak at m/z 284. An explanation of this empirical fact is proposed: the redox reactions induced by ionizing factors under the conditions of secondary emission experiments pass in the direction permitted for the particular initial form of the redox-active compound. Namely, an oxidized form undergoes reduction, whereas the reduced form is oxidized. This effect should be taken into account for the correct identification of redox-active compounds by their secondary emission mass spectra and for simulating redox reactions in the systems containing redox-active dyes under mass spectrometric conditions.

  • Sol–gel ZnO modified by organic dye molecules for efficient inverted polymer solar cells

    摘要: ZnO layer was modified with the addition of Cationic dyes including Crystal Violet (CV)/Ethyl violet (EV) in sol–gel process for an electron transport layer in inverted polymer solar cells (PSCs). X-ray photoelectron spectra showed the presence of CV/EV at the top of ZnO surface. Besides, oxygen defect was significantly reduced by CV/EV modification due to the chloride occupation. Furthermore, the amount of CV/EV decreased progressively from ZnO surface to bottom, being evidenced by depth profile. With modification, the ZnO surface became smoother and more hydrophobic to improve the contact with active layer. Meanwhile, CV/EV participated in the crystallization which resulted in the larger ZnO crystal grain size. Interface dipole after modification would slightly reduce the work function of ZnO and the energy barrier between ZnO and active layer via Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy and External Quantum Efficiency analysis. Accordingly, inverted PSCs possessed better morphology, better electron extraction ability with ZnO modified by CV and EV respectively, rendering the power conversion efficiency up to 8.80% and 9.06% in comparison to the pristine ZnO (7.59%). In conclusion, we demonstrate a facile way to improve morphological and electrical properties of ZnO layer by simply adding CV/EV in sol–gel ZnO to fabricate high performance PSCs.

  • Comparative study on the behaviour of Chitosan-Gelatin based Hydrogel and nanocomposite ion exchanger synthesized under microwave conditions towards photocatalytic removal of cationic dyes

    摘要: The present work reports the comparison study of Chitosan-Gelatin based hydrogels with their nanocomposite ion exchangers synthesized under microwave conditions for the adsorption and photodegradation of the cationic dyes. In this report, the hydrogel based on Chitosan-Gelatin, more selective for anionic dyes is modified to nanocomposite ion exchanger by incorporating the zirconium (IV) selenophosphate1 to make it selective for cationic dyes. The nanocomposite was investigated with a tremendous hike in the degradation capacity (99% from 12%) of MB after being modified to nanocomposite ion exchanger. Adsorption process followed Langmuir adsorption (Qo = 10.46 mgg-1) and non linear PFO kinetic model with k1, qe (calculated), R2, RMSE = 0.011, 1.02 (mgg-1), 0.996, and 0.01709 respectively.

The history, identity, names, manufacture, analysis, toxicity, textile dyeing, and biological staining applications, plus some nonstaining uses of safranine, phenosafranine, methylene violet, amethyst violet, azocarmine, and Magdala red are described here.
