  • A novel photovoltaic battery energy storage system based on modular multilevel converter

    摘要: Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have been widely applied in photovoltaic battery energy storage systems (PV-BESSs). In this paper, a novel topology of PV-BESS based on MMC is proposed, where the batteries are connected to the sub-modules through DC-DC converters. It is necessary to analyze the control strategies of both DC-DC converters and MMC. Specifically, the capacitor voltage balancing and the modulation mode are important. The sorting method is proposed to balance the capacitor voltages in this paper. Moreover, carrier phase shift-square wave modulation with the highest voltage utilization ratio and the highest power transfer capability is proposed to generate PWM singles for MMC-PV-BESS. In order to verify the availability of the proposed control strategy, a simulation model is built and related experiments are carried out. The simulation results and experimental results are consistent with the theory. As a result, the voltages of all capacitors could be balanced, and the MMC-PV-BESS could reliably work.

  • Nonlinear Analysis Methods Applied on Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Driven by Power Electronic Converters

    摘要: A novel method of analysis is deployed in detail on the basis of nonlinear systems theory with aim to design suitable controllers with guaranteed stability for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems driven by power converters. By this method, all the system nonlinearities are taken into account to allow a reliable analysis in a wide range of operation and to avoid instabilities that as shown in the paper can be occurred by inappropriate design. To this end, firstly a detailed accurate nonlinear dynamic model is presented for the PV system by including a cascade-mode control scheme. Then, taking into account the closed-loop system and incorporating the concept of input-to-state stability (ISS), a rigorous novel stability analysis is developed which achieves to prove asymptotic stability of the desired equilibrium point. A multi-step process is deployed in which the control loops operating in cascade-mode are involved. However, since the cascaded-mode control scheme and analysis is based on the time-scale separation principle, a systematic tuning method is conducted for the accurate gain selection of both inner-loop and outer-loop controllers which is based on the construction of suitable Lyapunov functions. To further validate the overall analysis, experimental results are carried out.

    摘要: This paper presents the topology, modelling and control strategy for a single-phase grid-connected converter for photovoltaic (PV) applications based on the series-resonant dual active bridge (DAB). A state-space large-signal model is derived for phase-shift based modulations, and a linearized model is presented for control design. A multi-loop control strategy is presented where a current-control loop regulates the current that the converter injects in-phase with the grid voltage, while a slower loop regulates the PV array voltage for MPPT. To verify the model and control strategy, simulation and experimental results are presented.

    摘要: Installation of renewable resources at single phase residential premises calls on for the need of power management and coordination control of operating system. System is divided components which includes, solar PV maximum power point tracking (MPPT) via boost converter, bi-directional DC-DC converter for battery charging applications, and bidirectional AC-DC converter for feeding AC loads, etc.,. This paper, the solar PV alongside with battery power elaborates management scenario so as to form a sophisticated residential consumer system capable of operating in both grid forming (or, islanded) and feeding (or, grid connected) modes. System is tested via PSCAD based simulation platform, for operation in varying operating modes such that the power could be fed from DC to AC microgrid and vice-versa. DC-AC converter operating in closed loop sine pulse width modulation (SPWM) scheme, is used to control AC side voltage while operating in islanded mode. It works in rectification mode during grid connected mode. In day time, system is in islanded mode where excess / deficit power is exchanged with energy storage unit (ESU). In evening or night time, it operates in grid connected mode so as to charge the ESU.
