摘要: The ability of grating based optical waveguide structures for Wavelength Division Multiplexing is demonstrated. In addition to the conventional function of an input grating coupled waveguide to couple an incident surface beam from an optical source like an optical ?ber into a planar waveguide, a modi?ed design to have a predetermined wavelength multiplexing response has been modelled and analysed. The structure is designed for 1550 nm wavelength and the separation between the wavelengths obtained is 10 nm. An improved waveguide structure of apodized grating pro?le along the waveguide is modelled for 1310 nm operation. There is a signi?cant increase in the number of channels with an improved channel bandwidth.

摘要: We propose a novel compact adiabatic fiber-to-chip edge coupler based on a silicon nitride/silicon trident structure. The edge coupler can achieve high coupling efficiency up to 81% (namely 0.91 dB) with 3.2-μm lensed fiber in an ultra-broad bandwidth covering both the O-band and the C-band. It enables adiabatic mode conversion with a total length as short as 80 μm. The silicon nitride/silicon edge coupler is compatible with CMOS process and fabrication tolerance is also analysed for future fabrication and measurement.

摘要: We design and demonstrate a two-dimensional grating coupler (2D GC) with a low polarization dependent loss (PDL) based on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform. Using an elliptical-like etching pattern consisting of two identical semicircles and a rectangle embedded between them, a maximum PDL of the fabricated device is measured to be 0.2 dB covering the C-band, lower than that of most conventional 2D GCs. Besides, a large feature size of 280 nm is beneficial to its manufacturing process and wide application.

A 20-GHz-band 64×64 Hollow Waveguide Two-Dimensional Butler Matrix
摘要: In this paper, a 20-GHz-band 64×64 hollow waveguide Butler matrix is proposed. By using two-plane short slot couplers and a modified diagram, a short-axis two dimensional Butler matrix is realized. The design method of the diagram and components is presented. The Butler matrix is composed of two plane hybrids, cross couplers and phase shifters. The designed Butler matrix is fabricated by milling and screwing together nine aluminum plates. The dimensions and weight are 86.40 mm × 74.19 mm × 396.34 mm and 7.0 kg, respectively. Transmission characteristics as a beam switching circuit are characterized by measurements, with a low insertion loss of less than 1.8 dB and an excitation error of 4-dB and 40-deg. standard deviation. Radiation characteristics as a 64-beam antenna are measured, and a wide coverage area of 40% of the hemisphere and high directivity of more than 18.7 dBi were determined by measurements.

Broadband polarization-independent directional coupler using asymmetric-waveguides
摘要: A high-performance broadband polarization-independent directional coupler is designed by using asymmetric-waveguides con?guration on a silicon-on-insulator platform. Through the design of cascaded directional couplers, the coupling characteristics of the light with the orthogonally polarized transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) can be manipulated, so that the coupling strength could be equivalent between TE and TM polarizations within an ultra-broadband. Couplers with 50% splitting ratio are designed and simulated for operating in the wavelength range from 1450 nm to 1650 nm for both polarizations. Within the 100 nm wavelength range from 1500 nm to 1600 nm, the deviations of splitting ratio for TE polarization and TM polarization are ± 3.3% and ± 6.2%, respectively. And within the 200 nm wavelength range from 1450 nm to 1650 nm, the deviations for TE polarization and TM polarization are ± 9.0% and ± 7.8%, respectively. The footprint of this polarization-independent directional coupler is only 21 μm × 1.6 μm.

摘要: A compact dual-band branch-line coupler for the application of mobile phones has been proposed using multilayer PCB technology. The coupler contains six miniaturization units and two extra transmission lines (TLs). The miniaturization unit is introduced to replace the λ/4 TL for size reducing. For further miniaturization, the overall structure of the coupler uses multi- layer technique. The proposed coupler has high isolation and flexible frequency ratio. A coupler operating at 2.4/3.5 GHz is designed for verification. The size of the BLC is about 0.025 λg 2, reduced by 92% compared with the conventional hybrid.

摘要: A novel dual-band branch line coupler with high power division isolation using coupled lines is proposed. A conventional coupler loaded with quarter-wavelength open coupled lines is adopted to realize the dual bands. Each band has a high isolation due to the introduced transmission zeros. The center frequencies of the planar coupler can be adjusted over a wide frequency band. A planar dual-band couplers located at 0.75/1.32 GHz is designed and fabricated for verification.

摘要: A chloride ion sensor based on a microfiber coupler with a Sagnac loop is proposed. Experimental results show that the sensitivity reaches a maximum of 423 pm/‰ and that the detection limit for the chloride ion concentration is 0.447‰ at a wavelength of 1595 nm. The proposed sensor is characterized by simple and easy manufacturing process, compact structure and low cost. This sensing unit has great potential for application in marine chloride detection and environmental safety monitoring, especially for monitoring building corrosion and water pollution.
