  • Intercore Crosstalk Mitigation in Multicore Fiber Transmission with Optical Space Coding

    摘要: We have demonstrated crosstalk mitigation in single-mode MCFs using optical space coding. Four types of single-mode multicore fiber (MCF) models were evaluated by our scheme with the modified prime code and differential detection. Typically, intercore crosstalk was improved by 7–20 dB in 9-core fibers with an original crosstalk of 10–20 dB.

  • Flat gain C?+?L band using optical amplifiers for 200?×?14?Gbps DWDM system

    摘要: This paper has shown the analysis of 200 channels dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system with the data rate of 14 Gbps for attaining the flat gain for the channel spectrum from 1520 to 1640 nm. Analysis has also extended with the power amplification of erbium–ytterbium co-doped optical amplifier (EYBCDOWA) and Raman optical amplifier for the transmission distance of 120 km to mitigate the effect of crosstalk and bit error rate (BER). Final analysis has also recommended that this proposed system is capable to deliver the flat gain of 19.5 dB with minor variation of 0.95 dB to maintain the acceptable dense communication for long distance.

  • 10?Gbps CPRI signals transmission impaired by intercore crosstalk in 5G network fronthauls with multicore fibers

    摘要: The impact of intercore crosstalk (ICXT) of weakly-coupled multicore fibers (MCFs) on the transmission performance of a Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) signal in 5G networks fronthaul is studied by numerical simulation. The results show that forward error correction-supported CPRI signals have more tolerance to ICXT due to the higher targeted bit error rate (of 10?3). For a receiver power penalty of 1 dB, an improvement of the tolerance of CPRI signals to ICXT, due to the increase of the MCF skew by about 1 dB, is observed. However, for the crosstalk levels that lead to 1 dB power penalty, we have shown that, the system is unavailable with a high probability. The crosstalk level required for an acceptable outage probability is about 10 dB lower than the crosstalk level leading to 1 dB power penalty.

  • Relating Crosstalk to Plane-Wave Field-to-Wire Coupling

    摘要: In this work, a novel formulation of crosstalk (XT) is developed, in which the perturbation/loading effect that the generator circuit exerts on the passive part of the receptor circuit is elucidated. Practical conditions (i.e., weak coupling and matching/mismatching of the generator circuit) under which this effect can be neglected are then discussed and exploited to develop an alternative radiated susceptibility (RS) test procedure, which resorts to crosstalk to induce at the terminations of a cable harness the same disturbance that would be induced by an external uniform plane-wave field. The proposed procedure, here developed with reference to typical RS setups foreseen by Standards of the aerospace sector, assures equivalence with field coupling without a priori knowledge and/or specific assumptions on the units connected to the terminations of the cable harness. Accuracy of the proposed scheme of equivalence is assessed by virtual experiments carried out in a full-wave simulation environment.

  • Aberrated Microlenses to Reduce Crosstalk in Free Space Optical Interconnects Systems

    摘要: A free space optical interconnects system that uses Gaussian beams and focusing microlenses with spherical aberration has been considered. Numerical results show that the use of microlenses with negative spherical improves the signal-to-crosstalk ratio of the interconnects system at some optimum positions of the detector array. An expression for output field at the detectors plane is derived and used to evaluate the signal-to-crosstalk ratio.

    摘要: Guaranteeing the integrity and functionality of the control and instrumentation (C&I) cable system is essential in ensuring safe nuclear power plant (NPP) operation. When a fault occurs in a multi-core cable, it not only affects the signals of faulty lines but in fact, disturbs the rest as well due to crosstalk and noise interference. Therefore, this results in C&I signal errors in NPP operation and further leads to a rise in concern regarding the NPP operation. Thus, it is necessary for diagnostic technologies of multi-core C&I cables to classify the faulty line and detect the fault to assure the safety and reliability of NPP operation. We propose a diagnostic method that detects the fault location and faulty line in multi-core C&I cable using a clustering algorithm based on TFDR results. The faulty line detection clustering algorithm uses TFDR cross-correlation and phase synchrony results as input feature data altogether which can detect the faulty line and identify the fault point successfully. The proposed clustering algorithm is verified by experiments with two possible fault scenarios in NPP operation.

    摘要: Ultrasound tomography (UT) is a modern method of medical imaging that has been intensively developed recently to diagnose female breasts in vivo. This method makes it possible to acquire images in various ultrasound modalities simultaneously - both transmission and reflection ones, without any focusing. Therefore, the ultrasound intensity level when scanning individual coronal breast sections is relatively low. Data for reconstruction of images is obtained by means of a multi-element array of small piezoceramic transducers spaced evenly on the inner side of the ring surrounding the breast immersed in water. The main problem with such arrangements is the occurrence of crosstalk, which introduces specific errors to measurement data. Crosstalk is a result of a deficiency in electrical or mechanical isolation between array elements. Such errors lead to distortions in the reconstructed images. In the paper, the effect of crosstalk in the ultrasound tomography ring array was examined and analyzed. The influence of crosstalk on the reconstructed images of the breast structure was shown as well. Conducted studies enabled the detection of the sources and paths of crosstalk and, as a consequence, it allowed us to improve the design of the multi-element ultrasonic transducer ring array, and to reduce crosstalk.

  • Efficient Orthogonal Control of Tunnel Couplings in a Quantum Dot Array

    摘要: Electrostatically-defined semiconductor quantum dot arrays offer a promising platform for quantum computation and quantum simulation. However, crosstalk of gate voltages to dot potentials and interdot tunnel couplings complicates the tuning of the device parameters. To date, crosstalk to the dot potentials is routinely and efficiently compensated using so-called virtual gates, which are specific linear combinations of physical gate voltages. However, due to exponential dependence of tunnel couplings on gate voltages, crosstalk to the tunnel barriers is currently compensated through a slow iterative process. In this work, we show that the crosstalk on tunnel barriers can be efficiently characterized and compensated for, using the fact that the same exponential dependence applies to all gates. We demonstrate efficient calibration of crosstalk in a quadruple quantum dot array and define a set of virtual barrier gates, with which we show orthogonal control of all interdot tunnel couplings. Our method marks a key step forward in the scalability of the tuning process of large-scale quantum dot arrays.

  • Integrated 25?GHz and 50?GHz spectral line width dense wavelength division demultiplexer on single photonic crystal chip

    摘要: We propose a new integrated demultiplexer model using the two-dimensional photonic crystal (2D PC) through the hexagonal resonant cavity (HRC) for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard. The integrated model of demultiplexer for both 25 GHz and 50 GHz has been designed for the ?rst time. The demultiplexer consists of bus input waveguide, drop waveguide, Hexagonal Resonant Cavity (HRC), 6 Air Hole Filter (6-AHF), 7 Air Hole Filter (7-AHF). The 7-AHF is used to ?lter 25GHz wavelength, and the 6-AHF ?lter is used to ?lter 50 GHz wavelength. The Q-factor on the designed demultiplexer is ?exible based on the idea of increasing the number of air holes between drop waveguide and resonant cavity. The demultiplexer is designed to drop maximum 8 resonant wavelengths. One side of demultiplexer is able to drop 50 GHz ITU standard wavelengths, which are of 1556.3 nm, 1556.7 nm, 1557.1 nm and 1557.5 nm, and further the other facet is able to drop 25 GHz wavelengths, which are of 1551.4 nm, 1551.6 nm, 1551.8 nm, and 1552.0 nm. The proposed demultiplexer may be carried out within the integrated dual system. This system is able to lessen the architecture cost and the size is miniaturized substantially.

  • 0.16 μm–BCD Silicon Photomultipliers with Sharp Timing Response and Reduced Correlated Noise

    摘要: Silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) have improved significantly over the last years and now are widely employed in many different applications. However, the custom fabrication technologies exploited for commercial SiPMs do not allow the integration of any additional electronics, e.g., on-chip readout and analog (or digital) processing circuitry. In this paper, we present the design and characterization of two microelectronics-compatible SiPMs fabricated in a 0.16 μm–BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) technology, with 0.67 mm × 0.67 mm total area, 10 × 10 square pixels and 53% fill-factor (FF). The photon detection efficiency (PDE) surpasses 33% (FF included), with a dark-count rate (DCR) of 330 kcps. Although DCR density is worse than that of state-of-the-art SiPMs, the proposed fabrication technology enables the development of cost-effective systems-on-chip (SoC) based on SiPM detectors. Furthermore, correlated noise components, i.e., afterpulsing and optical crosstalk, and photon timing response are comparable to those of best-in-class commercial SiPMs.
