Multi Input Converter for Reliable and Efficient Harvesting of Solar Energy
摘要: In this paper, a Multi-input converter (MIC) based module level approach for harvesting maximum power in a photovoltaic (PV) system during partial shading is proposed. The MIC topology has a dedicated switch in series with each module to operate it at its maximum power point (MPP). Each module is independent of the other and achieves their respective MPP’s under respective operating conditions. The MIC topology can also withstand open circuit and module mismatch conditions. The proposed system offers simplicity in design, flexibility in control and reliability in operation with low component count (number of switches and passive elements) consequently reduces the size, cost, and complexity of the system. The complete system is comprehensively analyzed for a standalone system under randomly selected conditions and is validated both by simulation studies in MATLAB environment and exhaustive experimental studies on a laboratory prototype.

Comparison of Different MPPT Algorithms for PV System
摘要: This paper helps us analyze three different MPPT techniques like Perturb and Observe, Incremental Conductance and Particle Swarm Optimization method. As the output characteristic depends on temperature and irradiance, therefore the maximum power point (MPPT) is not always constant. Hence it is necessary to ensure that the PV panel is operating at its maximum power point. There are many different MPPT techniques but, the confusion lies in selecting which MPPT technique is best as every algorithm has its own merit and demerit. In order to extract maximum power from PV arrangement, PSO algorithm is proposed. Algorithms are implemented using the DC-DC converter as well as SEPI converter. Results of simulations are presented in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of PSO algorithm, when compared to Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (INC). To simulate the proposed system MATLAB/SIMULINK power system tool box is used.

摘要: Modular multilevel converters (MMC) are presently the converter topology of choice for voltage-source converter high-voltage direct-current (VSC-HVDC) transmission schemes due to their very high efficiency. These converters are complex, yet fast and detailed electromagnetic transients simulation models are necessary for the research and development of these transmission schemes. Excellent work has been done in this area, though little objective comparison of the models proposed has yet been undertaken. This paper compares for the first time, the three leading techniques for producing detailed MMC VSC-HVDC models in terms of their accuracy and simulation speed for several typical simulation cases. In addition, an improved model is proposed which further improves the computational efficiency of one method. This paper concludes by presenting evidence-based recommendations for which detailed models are most suitable for which particular studies.

摘要: Modular multilevel converter (MMC) topology is discussed intensively as a crucial part of future dc grids, especially to integrate offshore wind power. While generalized voltage-source converter models are usually utilized for multiterminal investigations, conclusions on transient dc grid behavior and on ac–dc interactions during distorted ac grid conditions are hard to draw or are limited in their signi?cance. In this paper, a MMC-based dc grid framework with a tripartite focus on an internal converter as well as dc and ac grid control is presented. Besides, an evaluation of the implemented MMC model that incorporates the available arm sum voltage, a decoupled ac and dc current system control concept that is suitable to handle unbalanced voltage conditions is derived for HVDC applications. Combined with wind farm arrays, this collocation allows a meaningful examination of hybrid ACDC structures and the implemented dc grid control methodologies. To provide proof of the universal applicability of this framework, simulations are carried out on a ?ve-terminal system.

However, limited mismatch data are available for small capacitors. We report mismatch measurement for a 2-fF poly–insulator–poly (PIP) capacitor, which is the smallest reported PIP capacitor to the best of the authors’ knowledge. Instead of using complicated custom on-chip circuitry, direct mismatch measurement is demonstrated and veri?ed using Monte Carlo simulations and experimental measurements. Capacitive test structures composed of 9-bit PCAs are implemented in a low-cost 0.35-μm CMOS process. Measured data are compared to the mismatch of large PIP capacitors, theoretical models, and recently published data. Measurement results indicate an estimated average relative standard deviation of 0.43% for the 2-fF unit capacitor, which is better than the reported mismatch of metal–oxide–metal (MOM) fringing capacitors implemented in an advanced 32-nm CMOS process.

摘要: This paper presents a new design of multi-stage multi-phase for Interleaved Boost Converters (IBCs) controlled by MPPT technqiue for each power switch. As the PV output current is usually high, the ?rst-stage is designed with four-phase IBC to absorb the high current and deliver the utmost power with less stress on switches and less components size. The current for the next stage is lower that makes three-phase IBC and two-phase IBC for the last stage. The simulation results approve the effectiveness of the modeling and analysis and verify that the proposed system design is suitable for PV application feeds a high voltage devices with less stress, less input current ripple, less output voltage ripple, and suf?cient ef?ciency.

摘要: This paper presents a 3.6 GHz low-noise fractional-N digital phase-locked loop (PLL) that achieves low in-band phase noise. Phase detection is carried out by a proposed 10-bit, 0.8 ps resolution time-to-digital converter (TDC) using a charge pump and a successive-approximation-register analog-to-digital converter (SAR-ADC) with low power and small area. The latency of the TDC is addressed by the designed building blocks. The fractional spurs are reduced by dual-loop least-mean-square (LMS) calibration. A (cid:2)(cid:3)-less and MOS varactor-less LC digitally-controlled oscillator (DCO) is proposed whose frequency resolution is enhanced to 7 kHz (or a unit variable capacitance of 2.6 aF) using a bridging capacitor technique. A prototype chip is fabricated using a 65 nm CMOS process, occupying an active area of 0.38 mm2 and consuming a power of 9.7 mW at a reference frequency of 50 MHz. The measured in-band phase noise is 107.8 dBc/Hz to 110.0 dBc/Hz with a loop bandwidth of 1 to 5 MHz.

摘要: An open-winding permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) system with the integration of fully controlled and uncontrolled converter is investigated in this paper, in which half the amount of controllable power switches are needed compared with the conventional open winding system fed by two voltage source converters. The voltage space vector of open winding PMSG is modulated by controlled converter, which will be integrated with the voltage vector by uncontrolled converter to implement the operation of open winding PMSG. In order to analyze and compare the operation capability on the different dc voltage ratios, the available modulation range of the open winding PMSG is analyzed in detail. Moreover, unity power factor control is proposed as the optimized control method to achieve the maximum modulation index. Finally, a 1-kW experimental setup is built to validate the theoretical investigation on the open winding PMSG system.
