  • Relay-Zone Technique for Numerical Boundary Treatments in Simulating Dark Solitons

    摘要: To simulate dark solitons in the defocusing nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, we introduce a relay-zone technique, by alternately using a Robin boundary condition to treat the nonzero far field, and a derivative boundary condition to match the dark soliton. Numerical tests and comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed boundary treatment. Stability and interaction of dark solitons are also studied.

    摘要: A dual-wavelength soliton ?ber ring laser with adjustable repetition rate was reported. Through adding highly nonlinear ?ber (HNLF) as nonlinear medium in the ?ber ring cavity, the dual-wavelength bright-dark soliton pair can be formed. The 1st to 4th, 5th to 8th and 9th to 11th harmonics bright-dark solitons pairs were obtained by rotating the Polarization controller (PC) when the power are 160 mW, 230 mW and 340 mW, respectively. To investigate the in?uence of loss on the laser system, a variable optical attenuator (VOA) was embedded in the ring laser cavity. Then the dual-wavelength with Kelly sidebands was obtained by properly adjusting the PC and VOA. The center wavelengths of the dual-wavelength laser were located at 1557.8 nm and 1568.5 nm and the 3 dB bandwidths of two wavelengths are 2.2 nm and 2.1 nm, respectively. The spacing between the two wavelengths was 10.7 nm. Due to the existence of nonlinearity, the 1st to 22th harmonics bright solitons sequence (corresponding to the repetition rate tunable from 196.8 kHz to 4.33 MHz) was obtained by increasing the pump power. The intervals of bright-dark solitons pair and bright solitons all were 5.08 μs, which corresponds to fundamental repetition rates are 196.8 kHz. The signal-to-noise ratio of the bright solitons was approximately 58 dB, which means the operation of laser was stable.

  • Propagation characteristics of parallel dark solitons in silicon-on-insulator waveguide

    摘要: The propagation characteristic of two identical and parallel dark solitons in a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide is simulated numerically using the split-step Fourier method. The parallel dark solitons imposed by the initial chirp are investigated mainly by changing their power, their relative time delay. The simulation shows that the time delay deforms the parallel dark soliton pulse, forming a bright-like soliton in the transmission process and making the transmission quality down. By increasing the power of one dark soliton, the energy of the other dark soliton can be increased, and larger increase in a soliton’s power leads to larger increase in the energy of the other. When the initial chirp is introduced into one of the dark solitons, higher energy consumption is observed. In particular, positive chirps resulting in pulse broadening width while negative chirps narrowing, with an obvious compression effect on the other dark soliton. Finally, large negative chirps are found to have a profound impact on parallel and nonparallel dark solitons.

  • Stability analysis, solition solutions and Gaussian solitons of the generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with higher order terms

    摘要: The purpose of this paper is to study stability analysis, solition solutions and Gaussian solitons of the generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with higher order terms, which can be used to describe the propagation properties of optical soliton solutions. The authors apply the ansatz method and the Hamiltonian system technique to ?nd its bright, dark and Gaussian wave solitons and analyze its modulation instability analysis and stability analysis solution. The results imply that the generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger equation has bright, dark and Gaussian wave solitons. Meanwhile, the authors provide the graphical analysis of such solutions to better understand their dynamical behavior. Some constraint conditions are provided which can guarantee the existence of solitons. The authors analyze its modulation instability analysis and stability analysis solution. These results may help us to further study the local structure and the interaction of solutions in generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger -type equations. The authors hope that the results provided in this work can help enrich the dynamic behavior of the generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger–type equations.

  • Study of Optical Soliton Perturbation with Quadratic-Cubic Nonlinearity by Lie Symmetry and Group Invariance

    摘要: Here, optical soliton perturbation with quadratic-cubic nonlinearity has been discussed by applying Lie symmetry and group invariants. The perturbation terms include third and fourth order dispersions in addition to self-steepening, intermodal dispersion and higher order dispersion effects. Using presented algorithms, Bright and dark soliton solutions are revealed.
