Features of electromagnetic wave propagation in two- and three-layer cylindrical dielectric waveguides
摘要: Various characteristics of electromagnetic waves propagating in two- and three-layer open-dielectric waveguide structures of cylindrical shape are studied. Parameters of wave components in separate areas of the waveguide are considered. Electrodynamic characteristics and frequency dependencies for several values of layer dielectric permittivity obtained during the study are analyzed. The corresponding graphs of dependencies are presented. The dependencies of the power flux density of transverse magnetic (TM) waves in two- and three-layer waveguide structures in the absence of field dependence on azimuthal angle are considered.

Robust design of a broadband dual-polarized transition from PCB to circular dielectric waveguide for mm-wave applications
摘要: A growing interest in dielectric waveguides (DWGs) as an alternative to commonly used waveguides (like coaxial or twisted-pair cables) for high data rate interconnects could be observed in the last few years. Especially in the mm-wave frequency range (30–300 GHz) applications with these waveguides benefit from low losses and low dispersion. Moreover, using both polarizations of the fundamental mode in such waveguides could theoretically double the data rate without the need of higher bandwidth or additional fibers. The connection between DWGs and commonly available transceiver chips requires broadband transitions from planar waveguides like microstrip lines to DWGs. In this paper, an overview of the current developments of such transitions is given and a novel low-complexity design is presented that reduces the space consumption by 35% related to recently published works. This allows an easy integration into a printed circuit board layout or a chip package. Furthermore, an extensive sensitivity analysis is presented to prove the robustness toward manufacturing tolerances. The transition is realized at W-band frequencies (75–110 GHz) and achieves a relative 10 dB-bandwidth of more than 25% with a minimum insertion loss of 1.2 dB. It is shown that these properties even hold for manufacturing tolerances of nowadays manufacturing processes.

Dynamics and transport properties of Floquet topological edge modes in coupled photonic waveguides
摘要: We study theoretically the Floquet edge states in a photonic analog of the driven Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model implemented by an array of identical single-mode dielectric waveguides, where the time-dependent driving is modeled by periodically bended waveguides. We combine the coupled-mode theory with the Floquet-Bloch analysis and within this framework determine a band structure of the periodic system. We develop a theoretical approach for calculation of the edge states in semi-infinite systems and investigate their topological properties. In particular, we explore the dynamics of the 0- and π-edge states which reveal profound differences depending on their topological phase. To verify our observations, we simulate the power transport along the end of such a waveguide array and show that its spectra can be assigned to the excitation of the edge modes. The results obtained indicate that driving-induced topological properties of the edge modes can be exploited in controlling flow of light in periodically driven photonic structures and may provide insight into Floquet engineering of the realistic photonic systems.

2D Bragg Resonators Based on Planar Dielectric Waveguides (from Theory to Model-Based Testing)
摘要: Using analytical approaches and CST Microwave Studio 3D simulation, the electrodynamic characteristics of 2D Bragg resonators based on planar dielectric waveguides with doubly periodic corrugation are theoretically analyzed. Such resonators are of great interest to obtain directed narrow-band radiation in heterolasers with large active regions. Model electrodynamic experiments on the “cold” testing of such structures in the millimeter range are performed. Good agreement between the experimental and simulation results is shown, including the existence of the highest-Q mode within the Bragg reflection band in the absence of defects in the periodicity.

摘要: The aim of the paper is to present the extension of the discrete mode matching (DMM) method to analyze multilayered microwave structures with inhomogeneous dielectric layers. The structures with lossy and/or anisotropic (both electric and magnetic) material are taken into consideration. The procedure involves the use of a full-wave equivalent circuit to obtain the system equation. The mathematical formulation is presented, and its application is demonstrated by analyzing various waveguide structures. The validation has been done with open literature and good agreement has been observed between the results.
