  • Dissipative soliton resonance in a passively mode-locked praseodymium fiber laser

    摘要: Dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) operation in a passively mode-locked praseodymium-doped fluoride fiber laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror is proposed and demonstrated. A praseodymium-doped fluoride fiber is employed as the gain medium to allow lasing in the 1.3 μm region, and a stable square pulse emission at 1303 nm is observed. The width of the square pulse broadens with the increment of pump power, from 83 ns to 239 ns, whereas the peak power remains at a comparable level. The highest single pulse energy is recorded at around 2.3 nJ without the appearance of pulse breaking, validating the predicted DSR operation. To the best of author’s knowledge, this work is the first study of DSR operation in the 1.3 μm region.

  • High-energy dissipative soliton resonance and rectangular noise-like pulse in a figure-9 Tm fiber laser

    摘要: We experimentally demonstrate a direct generation of high-energy dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) and rectangular noise-like pulse (NLP) in a figure-9 thulium-holmium-doped mode-locked fiber laser. The pulse duration and average output power of the DSR can be tuned from 33.5 ns to 144.6 ns, and from 100.25 mW to 677.5 mW, respectively. The maximum of pulse energy is 713.2 nJ without wave breaking at pump power of 6.7 W, which is the highest energy of DSR in the region of 2 μm, to the best of our knowledge. In addition, the rectangular NLP with 452 nJ pulse bunch energy is also obtained.

  • High-power dissipative soliton resonance fiber laser with compact linear-cavity configuration

    摘要: An ultra-compact mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser under the operation regime of dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) has been demonstrated, which exports sub-nanoscond pulses with a maximum output average power of 2.4 W. The linear-cavity configuration of the proposed fiber laser is formed by a highly reflective fiber Bragg grating at 1066 nm and a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) consisting of a 5/95 optical coupler. As a result, DSR pulses with maximum average power of 2.4 W and repetition rate of 10.119 MHz have been obtained, when pump power is 10 W. The compact DSR Yb-doped fiber laser with high output power have great potential applications in material processing, optical communications, and so on.

  • L-Band Efficient Dissipative Soliton Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser with a Pulse Energy of 6.15 nJ and 3 dB Bandwidth of 47.8 nm

    摘要: Here, an efficient dissipative soliton mode-locked fiber laser in the L-band using nonlinear polarization rotation technology is demonstrated. With a maximum pump power of 495.3 mW and polarization state optimization, the fiber laser delivers a maximum output power of 68.6 mW with an 11.16 MHz repetition rate and a corresponding single pulse energy of 6.15 nJ. The dissipative soliton spectrum is centered at 1599.6 nm with a 3 dB bandwidth of 47.8 nm. The full width at half maximum of the compressed pulse is 156 fs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest single pulse energy reported so far for an L-band passively mode-locked all-fiber laser.

  • Dissipative soliton resonance in an all-polarization maintaining fiber laser with a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror

    摘要: An all-polarization maintaining mode-locked Yb-doped fiber integrated laser with a nonlinear amplifying loop Mirror (NALM) under the operation regime of dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) has been demonstrated. The mode-locked laser can generate DSR pulses at 1.04 μm at the repetition rate of 2.59MHz. The output DSR pulses can be tuned in pulse width from hundreds of picoseconds to a few nanoseconds by adjusting the pump power. By changing the pump power of the main loop and the NALM, the maximum output average power of 51.4 mW and the corresponding pulse energy about 20 nJ are achieved, respectively. Pulse breaking of the DSR pulses was observed apart from the typical pulse broadening at a fixed pulse peak power due to the peak power clamping effect, while solely increasing the main loop pump power. In addition, the characteristics of the DSR pulses such as pulse width, pulse energy, output power and optical spectrum with the changing of main loop pump power and NALM pump power are also discussed respectively.

  • Generation of J-shaped pulses in ultra-long Ytterbium doped mode locked fiber laser

    摘要: We report, for the first time, generation of J-shaped pulses in figure-eight type ultra-long, all-normal dispersion Ytterbium-doped fiber laser mode locked by the combined effect of nonlinear polarization evolution and nonlinear optical loop mirror. Cavity birefringence based spectral filtering introduced by polarization controllers is used for the formation of J-shaped as well as step-like and flat-top pulses. The shape and duration of generated pulse is found to depend on applied birefringence as well as pump power. J-shaped pulses of 180 ns duration and 332 nJ pulse energy at 201.45 kHz fundamental repetition rate are generated at 200 mW pump power. Experimentally, a strong correlation between spectral and temporal profile of the generated pulse shapes is established where it has been shown that asymmetric spectral filtering is responsible for generation of J-shaped and step-like pulses. Numerically, the spectral transmission of figure-eight type resonator under different cavity birefringence and intra-cavity power is investigated which qualitatively supports the experimental results.

  • Wave plate-dependent lasing regimes transitions in an all-normal-dispersion fiber laser mode-locked by nonlinear polarization rotation

    摘要: We address the transitions between three different working regimes of an all-normal-dispersion pulsed fiber laser, mode-locked by nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR). In particular, we investigate numerically the dynamics and study in details the transitions induced by solely rotating the cavity wave plates. We analyze the phemomenon by putting forward a model for all-normal-dispersion NPR-moded-locked fiber laser, based on the coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations and Jones matrix. Numerical results show that depending on the values of the cavity parameters, the transitions between the dissipative soliton regime and amplifier similariton one, or the transition between the dissipative soliton regime and the splitting pulse one may be realized by simply rotating the cavity wave plates. We found that the transitions are intrinsically related to the NPR mode-locking mechanism by explicitly evaluating the polarization states across the pulse at different locations of the cavity. Our numerical results are in very good agreement with experimental results reported in the relevant literature, and provide evidence that besides gain saturation and spectral filtering, the orientations of wave plates may be exploited as a suitable degree of freedom to obtain the desired pulse regimes in all-normal-dispersion fiber lasers.

  • Towards visible-wavelength passively mode-locked lasers in all-fibre format

    摘要: Mode-locked fibre lasers (MLFLs) are fundamental building blocks of many photonic systems used in industrial, scientific and biomedical applications. To date, 1–2 μm MLFLs have been well developed; however, passively mode-locked fibre lasers in the visible region (380–760 nm) have never been reported. Here, we address this challenge by demonstrating an all-fibre visible-wavelength passively mode-locked picosecond laser at 635 nm. The 635 nm mode-locked laser with an all-fibre figure-eight cavity uses a Pr/Yb codoped ZBLAN fibre as the visible gain medium and a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror as the mode-locking element. First, we theoretically predict and analyse the formation and evolution of 635 nm mode-locked pulses in the dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) regime by solving the Ginzburg-Landau equation. Then, we experimentally demonstrate the stable generation of 635 nm DSR mode-locked pulses with a pulse duration as short as ~96 ps, a radio-frequency signal-to-noise ratio of 67 dB and a narrow spectral bandwidth of <0.1 nm. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with our numerical simulations. In addition, we also observe 635 nm noise-like pulse operation with a wide (>1 nm) and modulated optical spectrum. This work represents an important step towards miniaturized ultrafast fibre lasers in the visible spectral region.

  • Experimental Investigation of Power-Scaled Dissipative Soliton Generation

    摘要: We conduct a power scaling study for the femtosecond dissipative soliton generation with a 10-μm core diameter, ?ber-based, compact-sized, and low-cost all-normal-dispersion laser con?guration. Laser performance, in terms of spectra distribution, temporal characteristic, average power, and stability in 8 h, for different ?ltering bandwidths has been investigated. The obtainable highest output power and shortest pulse duration are 4.5 W and 85 fs, respectively. To our best knowledge, this is the shortest pulse duration among the reported all-?ber pumped Watt-level mode-locked ?ber lasers.

  • Period Doubling of Dissipative-Soliton-Resonance Pulses in Passively Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers

    摘要: Period-doubled dissipative-soliton-resonance (DSR) pulses are numerically investigated in a Yb-doped ?ber laser based on non-linear amplifying loop mirror (NALM). In the case of low pump power, stationary dissipative solitons with uniform pulse peak power are obtained in the laser. Further increasing the pump power, the laser operates in the DSR regime, where the phenomenon of period-doubling bifurcations could occur. In a period-doubled state, the pulse peak power returns back to its original one every two cavity roundtrips while the pulse duration remains almost the same. We analyze the effects of cavity parameters on the DSR-pulse features under the dynamic bifurcations. It is found that the saturation power of NALM plays a dominant role in the formation of period-doubled DSR pulses. Our simulation results are conducive to enriching the dynamics of DSR pulses in non-linear systems.
