Evaluation of Radiation Characteristics of Xenon Short Arc Lamp by Numerical Simulation; 数値解析を用いたキセノンショートアークランプの放射特性評価;
摘要: In this study, an arc numerical simulation model of xenon short arc lamp was developed by modifying numerical simulation model of free burning arc. The influence of the difference in the filling gas pressure on the energy consumed by the lamp voltage, current and gas radiation was investigated. It became clear that the radiation power of the xenon arc lamp strongly depends on the filling gas pressure. Furthermore, when the lamp is turned on with constant power, the radiation efficiency is determined by the balance between the radiation power density and the high temperature arc volume, and as a result, it is clear that the maximum value exists of the radiation power fraction.

Improvement in reading performance through training with simulated thalamic visual prostheses
摘要: Simulations of artificial vision are used to provide the researcher an opportunity to explore different aspects of visual prosthesis device design by observing subject performance on various tasks viewed through the simulation. Such studies typically use normal, sighted subjects to measure performance at a given point in time. Relatively few studies examine performance changes longitudinally to quantitatively assess the benefits from a training plan that would be akin to post-implantation rehabilitation. Here, we had six normal, sighted subjects use a standard reading task with daily practice over eight weeks to understand the effects of an intensive training schedule on adaptation to artificial sight. Subjects read 40 MNREAD-style sentences per session, with a new set each session, that were presented at five font sizes (logMAR 1.0–1.4) and through three center-weighted phosphene patterns (2,000, 1,000, 500 phosphenes). We found that subjects improved their reading accuracy across sessions, and that the training lead to an increase of reading speed that was equivalent to a doubling of available phosphenes. Most importantly, the hardest condition, while initially illegible, supported functional reading after training. Consistent with experience-driven neuroplastic changes, gaps in the training schedule lead to transient decreases in reading speed, but, surprisingly, not reading accuracy. Our findings contribute to our larger project of developing a thalamic visual prosthesis and to post-implant rehabilitation strategies.

摘要: All-optical NOT logic gate is theoretically described using the concept of polarization-conversion in ring resonator. Conversion of polarization states occurs at very high speed of 0.2 ps and high Q-factor of about 1500 is obtained. The design may used in intensity based all-optical switching as well as in designing of all-optical logic gates. Low pump power of about 40 nW/m is required for such conversion based all-optical gates. Suitability in pumping, refractive index contrast, height-to-width ratio of waveguide and phase-matching condition is necessary to obtain such results.

摘要: Using the hierarchical cascading method for modeling semiconductor devices makes it possible to achieve high accuracy by considering the influence of the details of the structure of the device. In this paper, we consider the simulation of a quantum cascade laser (QCL) with a periodic structure. The simulation is performed using the finite element method (FEM) in the COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results show that the proposed method allows to obtain the characteristics of the device with high accuracy.

Transferability of interatomic potentials for molybdenum and silicon
摘要: Interatomic potentials are widely used in computational materials science, in particular for simulations that are too computationally expensive for density functional theory (DFT). Most interatomic potentials have a limited application range and often there is very limited information available regarding their performance for specific simulations. We carried out high-throughput calculations for molybdenum and silicon with DFT and a number of interatomic potentials. We compare the DFT reference calculations and experimental data to the predictions of the interatomic potentials. We focus on a large number of basic materials properties, including the cohesive energy, atomic volume, elastic coefficients, vibrational properties, thermodynamic properties, surface energies and vacancy formation energies, which enables a detailed discussion of the performance of the different potentials. We further analyze correlations between properties as obtained from DFT calculations and how interatomic potentials reproduce these correlations, and suggest a general measure for quantifying the accuracy and transferability of an interatomic potential. From our analysis we do not establish a clearcut ranking of the potentials as each potential has its strengths and weaknesses. It is therefore essential to assess the properties of a potential carefully before application of the potential in a specific simulation. The data presented here will be useful for selecting a potential for simulations of Mo or Si.

摘要: Sharing schemes are emerging in residential and business sectors to reduce the purchase and operation cost of individuals. This paper proposes a framework to support the operational management of a shared EV fleet. An optimization algorithm is developed to coordinate the charging and reservation assignment using mixed integer programming. The integration with local PV production and battery storage is taken into account. A booking algorithm is also developed to determine whether a reservation can be accepted or not. Monte Carlo simulation is performed in the case study to demonstrate an application of the proposed framework with the Swedish travel patterns. The result provides an overview about the utilization rate of the fleet with different number of EVs, which can support the investment decision of an EV sharing community. The result also shows that the EVs and battery are effectively coordinated to minimize the total cost, satisfy the reservations and comply with grid limits.

摘要: The exposure of human skin to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) can trigger a wide array of biological responses, including photocarcinogenesis. Melanin, either in colloidal form or encapsulated into melanosomes, is known to be the main UVR attenuation substance acting within the cutaneous tissues. Although many studies have addressed the protective role of this pigment against the harmful effects of UVR exposure, the impact of different melanosome arrangements on the mitigation of these effects remains to be quantitatively verified. The difficulties to resolve this open question can be mainly attributed to the intrinsic practical limitations of in vivo and in vitro experiments involving skin specimens. In this paper, we describe controlled in silico experiments that allowed us to overcome such limitations and provide quantitative evidence for the clarification of this question. Besides contributing to a more robust understanding of the physiological parameters associated with cutaneous UVR attenuation, our findings can be incorporated into the development of more effective strategies for the evaluation of individuals' susceptibility to UVR exposure. Such strategies are essential for the prevention of UVR-induced pathologies, particularly skin cancer.

摘要: The solar array output model under arbitrary damage condition is established and a semi-physical simulation platform is built, which are used to study the influence of solar array damage on satellite power system. The experimental results show that the solar array damage range, damage degree, and satellite working mode influence the remaining service life of satellite power system. When the solar array damage range and satellite working mode are determined, the rule between remaining service life of satellite power system and solar array damage degree can be summarized as 'three areas, two key points'.

The Oscillation Dynamics of Droplets Subject to Electrowetting Actuation
摘要: The dynamic behavior of an Electrowetting-on-Dielectrics (EWOD) actuation process can be linked to certain fluid properties of the actuated polar liquid droplet. After actuation, inertia will lead to droplet oscillations where the contact angle asymptotically approaches the newly created surface tension equilibrium value. The decay behavior, frequency and amplitude of these oscillations can be related to material parameters such as density, viscosity and mass. In this work we study the characteristics of these oscillations, present simulation results and develop a measurement setup for first observations of oscillations on deionized water droplets. We show that there is a big difference between two grounding schemes, in particular regarding the dynamic movement of the liquid-gas interface. It turns out that only an electrical grounding from below leads to utilizable oscillations. Finally we point towards applications for future Lab-on-a-Chip applications.
