  • How photovoltaics can contribute to GHG emission reductions of 55% in the EU by 2030

    摘要: The new European Commission plans to raise the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target from 40% towards 55% by 2030 and make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Achieving this will require accelerated energy efficiency measures, deeper electrification of sectors currently consuming conventional fuels and the deployment of more renewables, faster. This opinion article looks specifically at the role of photovoltaics (PV), based on scenarios from the Commission’s 2018 long-term strategy (LTS) for energy and climate. To reach a 55% GHG emissions reduction, the cumulative PV capacity in the EU and the UK would need to surge to 455–605 GW, depending on the strategic policy scenario. This implies a compound annual growth rate between 12 and 15% in the timeframe 2020–203 to increase the annual PV market from approximately 16.5 GW in 2019 to 50–80 GW by 2030. Such a volume can provide the basis for reviving the European solar manufacturing industry as well as creating more than 100 000 jobs along the value chain.

    摘要: Although photovoltaics (PV) are expected to contribute as major electricity and energy source, there are some important issues such as continuous development of PV R&D and creation of new markets to be developed. This paper emphasizes acceleration of PV system installations in Japan in order to overcome difficulty of increasing nuclear energy. This paper also presents importance of high-efficiency, low cost and highly reliable solar cells and modules by overviewing efficiency potential of various solar cells including Si tandem solar cells. Our approaches to automobile application by using high-efficiency and low-cost solar cell modules are presented.

  • Technical and economical evaluation of the photovoltaic system in Brazilian public buildings: A case study for peak and off-peak hours

    摘要: An analysis of Brazilian public costs indicates that, although a significant part of its financial resources is destined for electricity consumption, only a small portion of the distributed generation belongs to public institutions. A technical and economic analysis of a PV power plant in the Brazilian public sector was proposed and various scenarios were evaluated, indicating that a change in the Brazilian tariff policy could be an alternative for boosting PV generation in the public sector. Risk analysis demonstrated that the minimum acceptable rate of return is the variable that most affects the system’s viability. In addition, a Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) showed that the proposed PV system has a viability probability higher than 92%. A statistical analysis indicated that the system has a probability of at least 80% for supplying more than 25% of the building’s peak demand for all seasons. Finally, such systems have also been found to represent an alternative for improving the electricity grid’s stability, while supplying part of the building’s energy demand.

  • Forecasting photovoltaic and wind energy capital costs in Japan: A Bayesian approach

    摘要: This study used a Bayesian approach to estimate the future capital costs of photovoltaics and wind energy in Japan. In the proposed approach, the future cost estimated by different cost estimation methods is compounded by observing actual costs during specific periods. This study used capital costs estimated in previous studies conducted after 2011 and data on the actual costs between 2015 and 2017 in Japan as input data. This study discussed the validity of this approach by comparing the compounded value with the actual cost in 2017. The result of the comparison indicates that the cost estimates obtained using the Bayesian approach are especially valid in the case wherein actual costs lie within the estimated cost range. Capital costs in 2030 are also estimated using the Bayesian approach. The probability density distribution of the capital cost in 2030 is updated to the upper side of the estimated cost range by observing the actual costs. The result obtained by this reductive approach indicates that the capital costs in 2030 are expected to lie in the upper side of the estimated cost range in Japan.

  • Extracting issues significant to valuing electricity from small photovoltaic systems using quantitative content analysis

    摘要: The feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme for small photovoltaic (PV) systems is fast approaching its closure or expiration in many countries. One of the issues after the closure of the FIT will be to determine the selling price of the surplus PV generation, for which valuing the surplus PV generation is essential. This study extracted issues significant to valuing electricity from PV systems by using quantitative content analysis in four states in Australia, where the local economic regulator conventionally estimates the value. Through quantitative content analysis, the region-specific issues relevant to each state were extracted. For example, forecast of wholesale price is the most significant issue in Victoria, where the methodology was not clear and the avoided wholesale cost tends to be overestimated. Similarly, in New South Wales and Queensland, merit order effect was the most significant issue among the stakeholders, where PV installation was higher than that in the other states. Thus, the proposed analysis method can be used to extract the issues relevant to valuing the electricity from PV generation.

  • Analysis of stakeholder roles and the challenges of solar energy utilization in Iran

    摘要: Growing energy demand, rising greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of fossil fuels necessitates the development of renewable energy sources. In order to improve renewable energy utilization, it is necessary to determine the most important factors influencing energy strategy. The energy system of Iran is highly dependent on fossil fuels; however, Iran has a high potential for solar energy development and several policies are being pursued by the government to develop power generation by renewable energy resources. This study presents and discusses several important parameters of energy policy and security which make the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems crucial for the future. Installation of solar PV will improve energy security, foster job creation and reduce environmental problems. It also introduces and investigates those institutions and organizations involved in developing renewable energies, especially solar energy. These include the Ministry of Energy and universities, both of which play key roles in the development of solar energy.
