  • L-Band Efficient Dissipative Soliton Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser with a Pulse Energy of 6.15 nJ and 3 dB Bandwidth of 47.8 nm

    摘要: Here, an efficient dissipative soliton mode-locked fiber laser in the L-band using nonlinear polarization rotation technology is demonstrated. With a maximum pump power of 495.3 mW and polarization state optimization, the fiber laser delivers a maximum output power of 68.6 mW with an 11.16 MHz repetition rate and a corresponding single pulse energy of 6.15 nJ. The dissipative soliton spectrum is centered at 1599.6 nm with a 3 dB bandwidth of 47.8 nm. The full width at half maximum of the compressed pulse is 156 fs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest single pulse energy reported so far for an L-band passively mode-locked all-fiber laser.

  • Self-generating Brillouin fiber laser using highly nonlinear hafnium bismuth erbium-doped fiber

    摘要: A compact Brillouin fiber laser (BFL) utilizing a newly developed hafnium bismuth erbium-doped fiber (HB-EDF), which functions as both the Brillouin and linear gain media, is realized in the absence of Brillouin pump. It is achieved by the self-Brillouin generation from a 0.2 m length of HB-EDF with high nonlinearity in a laser cavity. The self-generating BFL was obtained in both ring and linear laser cavities. Compared to the ring cavity, the BFL in the linear cavity produced more Brillouin stokes at a lower pump threshold. In the experiment, an eight-line comb with average spacing of 0.087 nm was generated at the HB-EDF pump power of 75.27 mW. This compact BFL has total cavity length of less than 0.5 m, and thus, this is the shortest gain medium reported.

  • Comparative analysis of capacity oriented Integrated AMI modulation technique for the deployment of radio over fiber system

    摘要: To improve the spectral efficiency and to reduce non-linear distortion in the optical system, various advanced modulation techniques have been investigated for radio over fiber (RoF) system. The investigation indicates the high data rate distortion less transmission for long-haul RoF system still further investigation is required to improve spectral efficiency and to get the reduction in signal degradation. In this paper, an advanced modulation technique referred as integrated alternate mark inversion modulation technique based upon external modulation (electro-absorption modulator) has been designed and simulated. The results show better performance in terms of performance metrics i.e. Q-factor (25.15) and BER (4e-140) and also enhance the data transmission capabilities up to 100 Gbps covering the long distance of 250 km resulting a reasonable reduction in signal degradation particularly chromatic dispersion effects for long-haul transmissions.

  • Polariton superregular breathers in a resonant erbium-doped fiber

    摘要: We study polariton superregular (SR) breathers triggered by the resonant interaction of an optical field with two-level doping ions in an erbium-doped fiber. We demonstrate explicitly that the optical wave component always features a bright structure that describes the modulation instability (MI) development from localized small perturbations, while the SR matter-wave breathers exhibit more complicated dynamical evolution, which are absent in standard scalar SR breather theory. Despite the complexity, the exact link between these SR breathers and MI is established strictly by showing that the absolute difference of group velocities of SR breathers coincides exactly with the linear MI growth rate. In particular, we show how a small dip perturbation of the dark SR breather in the matter wave component induces an intriguing MI process of completely exponential decay. These results will enrich our understanding on the MI development in complex coupled light-matter interaction systems.

  • Single-mode large-mode-area Er–Yb fibers with core based on phosphorosilicate glass highly doped with fluorine

    摘要: Single-mode Er–Yb fibers with the core based on a phosphorosilicate glass matrix (up to 6.5 mol.% P2O5) highly doped with fluorine (up to 0.9 wt.%) were fabricated using an all-gas-phase modified chemical vapor deposition method. The core numerical aperture was in the range of 0.07–0.08 relative to the pure silica, which allowed us to increase the single-mode core diameter up to 20 μm. The slope efficiency in lasers based on the fabricated fibers reached 34% relative to the launched pump power.

    摘要: Millimeter Waves (MMWs) operating at 30–300 GHz band, is very encouraging to the next-generation 5G wireless communication systems, supporting data rates of multiple Gbps per user. By using the Four Wave Mixing (FWM), Self-Phase Modulation (SPM) and Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) effects in the Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) and Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), the photonic millimeter switching is realized. These effects can reduce the switching crosstalk since the Optical Single Sideband (OSSB) signal occupies the least optical bandwidth. The best operating conditions improve the Sideband Suppression Ratio (SSR) and at the same time reduce the intensity of unintended sideband signal. This leads to a dispersion-free transmission in the optical fiber and improves the data rate as required in 5G communication. In this paper, the wavelength switching of a 9 Gbps QPSK signal carried on the 30 GHz over a spacing of 1.6 nm as a function of probe wavelength of 1548.515 nm and pump wavelength of 1550.115 nm is achieved.

  • Point-by-Point Femtosecond-Laser Inscription of 2-μm-Wavelength-Band FBG through Fiber Coating

    摘要: We propose a point-by-point inscription method for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) fabrication using a femtosecond pulsed laser focused through a fiber polyimide coating, realizing a 2-μm-wavelength-band FBG. A femtosecond laser acts as the inscription laser, focused by a 63× oil lens. A first-order FBG was fabricated with a grating interval of 700 nm. The 15- μW pulsed laser was focused directly on the fiber core through the polyimide coating and cladding. A first-order FBG for 2004.8-nm light with more than 56% reflectances was fabricated. High wavelength sensitivity and linearity of the FBG were demonstrated by temperature and strain-sensing testing. The first-order FBG of 2004.8 and 2000.2 nm resonant wavelengths could be realized simultaneously through parallel inscription method in 3000μm long grating area.

  • Conventional solitons and bound-state solitons in an erbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked by TiSe2-based saturable absorber

    摘要: Conventional solitons (CSs) as well as bound-state solitons in a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser based on 1T-phase titanium diselenide (1T-TiSe2) saturable absorber (SA) have been systematically demonstrated for the first time. The mode locker is assembled by sandwiching the 1T-TiSe2 film between two fiber ferrules to improve compatibility with the all-fiber-integrated ring cavity configuration. The modulation depth, saturation intensity and nonsaturable loss of the prepared 1T-TiSe2 SA are 14.36 %, 1.33 MW/cm2 and 9.44 %, respectively. The system, by means of carefully adjusting the orientations of the polarization controller (PC), is switchable between two states: CS and bound-state CS. In the CS mode-locked regime, the oscillating wavelength is centered at 1558.294 nm with a pulse duration of 1.74 ps, a pulse repetition rate of 3.23 MHz and a maximum average output power of 2.904 mW, respectively. In the bound-state CS regime, two identical solitons form the bound-state pulses with a temporal separation of 6.1 ps, and the bound-state pulses are equally distributed at a repetition rate of 3.23 MHz, corresponding to the fundamental cavity repetition rate. The experimental results further indicate that 1T-TiSe2 SA is competitive to the existing SAs explored so far and will promote the applications of 1T-TiSe2-based SAs in the field of ultrafast lasers.

  • Tunable C-band and L-band multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber ring laser based on a triple-core photonic crystal fiber with polarization-dependent loss

    摘要: A tunable C-band and L-band multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser (MW-EDFL) based on a novel fiber filter is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The fiber filter is composed of a segment of triple-core photonic crystal fiber (TCPCF) and a segment of multi-mode fiber (MMF) between single mode fibers, which is inserted into the ring cavity of MW-EDFL as tuning component and wavelength selector. Based on the axial strain response of fiber filter, a tunable single-, dual- and triple-wavelength laser can be obtained with the tunable range of 19.58 nm, 10.34 nm, 6.84 nm, respectively. Meanwhile, the side-mode suppression ratio of lasing output is higher than 50 dB and the 3 dB linewidth is 0.026 nm for single wavelength lasing. Moreover, the lasing outputs are proved to be very stable at room temperature with the maximum wavelength shift of 0.06 nm and power fluctuation of 0.96 dB. Such a MW-EDFL with relatively simple structure and easy preparation has wide applications in important fields such as medicine, military, communication, and sensing.

  • Switchable multi-wavelength linearly-polarized lasing oscillations in a figure eight EDF laser based on spatial-mode beating by means of weakly-coupled FMF

    摘要: A switchable multi-wavelength figure eight Erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser with linearly-polarized (LP) beam generation in the C-band region is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Spatial-mode beating occurs owing to effect of multi-mode interference in the weakly-coupled few-mode fiber (FMF). A bandpass filter of multiple specific wavelengths is created by incorporating a weakly-coupled FMF with a Sagnac fiber loop. The LP modes are generated by cascaded mode-selective couplers (MSCs), which are designed and fabricated by tapering the proposed FMF with single-mode fiber (SMF). Combination of the cascaded MSCs and a simple N × 1 optical switch is employed to switch the LP modes. In experiments, the proposed fiber laser delivers versatile lasing outputs in states of single-, dual-, triple-wavelength oscillations for LP01, LP11 and LP21 modes. We investigate the stabilities for LP01, LP11, LP21 modes in 24-min. Moreover, the mode intensity profiles, optical signal-noise ratios (OSNRs) of lasing output and slope efficiencies are also measured. The proposed fiber laser has promising applications in WDM-MDM optical fiber communication systems, optical fiber sensor systems, optical instruments and spectroscopy.
