  • Label-free Evaluation of Myocardial Infarct in Surgically Excised Ventricular Myocardium by Raman Spectroscopy

    摘要: Understanding the viability of the ischemic myocardial tissue is a critical issue in determining the appropriate surgical procedure for patients with chronic heart failure after myocardial infarction (MI). Conventional MI evaluation methods are; however, preoperatively performed and/or give an indirect information of myocardial viability such as shape, color, and blood flow. In this study, we realize the evaluation of MI in patients undergoing cardiac surgery by Raman spectroscopy under label-free conditions, which is based on intrinsic molecular constituents related to myocardial viability. We identify key signatures of Raman spectra for the evaluation of myocardial viability by evaluating the infarct border zone myocardium that were excised from five patients under surgical ventricular restoration. We also obtain a prediction model to differentiate the infarcted myocardium from the non-infarcted myocardium by applying partial least squares regression-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) to the Raman spectra. Our prediction model enables identification of the infarcted tissues and the non-infarcted tissues with sensitivities of 99.98% and 99.92%, respectively. Furthermore, the prediction model of the Raman images of the infarct border zone enabled us to visualize boundaries between these distinct regions. Our novel application of Raman spectroscopy to the human heart would be a useful means for the detection of myocardial viability during surgery.

In the modal, correlation degree and correlation functions combining topology are proposed to evaluate the similarity degree between user’s requirement and data quantitatively. Therefore, the advantages and disadvantages of different schemes can be compared.

  • Evaluating the risk of eavesdropping a visible light communication channel

    摘要: Visible light communication (VLC) technologies are becoming a method to communicate with a wide range of devices. One of VLC's biggest proposed advantages is the inherent security that this technology provides. The concept of securing on VLC is based on its indoor use since optical radiation is confined by walls. However, doors and windows are usually present in any inhabited structure through which the optical signal can leak and be detected by external devices. In this study, the signal leaked through such a window and the risk of eavesdropping the VLC-based channel may have is studied. In this way, a risk evaluation parameter, which includes different variables, is proposed and analysed.

  • Objective Evaluation Criteria for Shooting Quality of Stereo Cameras over Short Distance

    摘要: Stereo cameras are the basic tools used to obtain stereoscopic image pairs, which can lead to truly great image quality. However, some inappropriate shooting conditions may cause discomfort while viewing stereo images. It is therefore considerably necessary to establish the perceptual criteria that can be used to evaluate the shooting quality of stereo cameras. This article proposes objective quality evaluation criteria based on the characteristics of parallel and toed-in camera configurations. Considering the different internal structures and basic shooting principles, this paper focuses on short-distance shooting conditions and establishes assessment criteria for both parallel and toed-in camera configurations. Experimental results show that the proposed evaluation criteria can predict the visual perception of stereoscopic images and effectively evaluate stereoscopic image quality.

  • OPTICS-based Unsupervised Method for Flaking Degree Evaluation on the Murals in Mogao Grottoes

    摘要: In recent years, the preventive protection and restoration work of the murals in Mogao Grottoes has received extensive attention. Due to the fragility and detachment of the murals, it is necessary to study non-contact disease detection and prevention methods. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised method to accurately predict the degree of mural flaking diseases in Mogao Grottoes. The hyperspectral image (HSI) is captured by V10-PS hyperspectral camera. The proposed method includes three main steps: (1) extract the spectral features of the HSI by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Sparse Auto-Encoder (SAE) respectively; (2) cluster the extracted features by the Ordering Points to Identify the Clustering Structure (OPTICS) algorithm based on the density; (3) calculate the distance between the cluster core point and the other points in the feature space and visualize the final classification result. Different from other existing hyperspectral classification works, the research proposed in this paper is the degree detection of flaking of murals. Since the degree of flaking is continuous and the work is conducted without any supervision information, the entire workflow is complex and challenging. The experimental results show the effectiveness of our method.

  • Assessing Hemorrhagic Shock: Feasibility of Using an Ultracompact Photoacoustic Microscope

    摘要: Hemorrhagic shock, as an important clinical issue, is regarding as a critical disease with a high mortality rate. Unfortunately, existing clinical technologies are inaccessible to assess the hemorrhagic shock via hemodynamics in microcirculation. Here, we propose an ultracompact photoacoustic microscope to assess hemorrhagic shock using a rat model and demonstrate its clinical feasibility by visualizing buccal microcirculation of healthy volunteers. Both functional and morphological features of the microvascular network including concentration of total hemoglobin (CHbT), number of blood vessels (VN), small vascular density (SVD) and vascular diameter (VD) were derived to assess the microvascular hemodynamics of different organs. Animal studies show the feasibility of the proposed tool to assess and stage the hemorrhagic shock via microcirculation. In vivo oral imaging of healthy volunteers indicates the translational possibility of this technique for clinical evaluation of hemorrhagic shock.

  • Performance evaluation of total variation (TV) denoising technique for dual-energy contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) with photon counting detector (PCD): Monte Carlo simulation study

    摘要: The dual-energy contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) system based on a photon counting detector (PCD) is very useful providing functional information for breast cancer detection. In particular, this system can be used to solve the spectral overlap and high radiation dose problems. However, imaging noise is a big problem because of the degradation image performance and cancer detection ratio in the CEDM system. To address this problem, a total variation (TV)-based denoising technique approach has recently been studied. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate and confirm the image performance of our TV-based denoising technique with dual-energy CEDM with a PCD. For this purpose, we simulated a dual-energy CEDM with a PCD and breast phantom in Monte Carlo simulation using the Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) that is an essential open source program. We also designed a TV-based denoising technique based on the L1-norm estimation included correction and iteration steps for acquiring high edge preservation in X-ray images. To evaluate the image performance, we used evaluation parameters with a contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and coefficient of variation (COV) as a function of the absorbed dose levels (2.18, 1.53, 1.09, and 0.66 mGy). According to the results, the average of all iodine thicknesses and absorbed dose conditions for the CNR using our proposed TV-based denoising technique was 1.71, 1.39, and 1.13 times higher than that acquired for the noisy image, median filter and Wiener filter, respectively. We also acquired excellent COV results for the dual-energy CEDM with a PCD system (2.53 times higher than that of the noisy image). In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that a TV-based denoising technique can be achieved with an improved image performance and the effect and feasibility of the TV-based denoising technique for dual-energy CEDM with a PCD can be investigated.

  • Detection of scales and its thickness determination in industrial pipes using Compton backscattering system

    摘要: The ability to detect and quantify scales in pipes has been an important yardstick for efficient transfer of fluids in domestic as well as in application related industries. Knowledge of different kinds of scales formed has become a precondition for trouble-shooting in operational lines. In this paper, collimated Compton backscattered gamma rays from a radioactive source have been used to inspect the scales by automatic scanning in steps along the axial direction of different pipes. The methodology has been extended for the quantification of scales that prevails in the real functionality of extensive usage of fluids. To aid for descaling processes, the desideratum is the density determination of scales and this parameter is quantified non-destructively and is also validated with the standard density. The described non-intrusive gamma ray densitometry is quite promising, efficient and has highly reliable results for scale detection with the squared correlation coefficient of 0.98. The proposed technique shows a better linearity than the gammatography technique.

  • The Precision Exploration of Image Super-Resolution Applied into Motion Measurement

    摘要: This paper proposes a new evaluation parameter of image super-resolution reconstruction quality, which is used to determine the influence of super-resolution reconstruction on motion measuring precision. Based on this new evaluation parameter, we respectively employ different algorithms of super-resolution reconstruction with different reconstruction scales, then calculate the motion measuring precision using the corresponding super-resolution image, analyze the impact of image super-resolution technology on the precision of image motion measuring. The experimental results show that only part of the super-resolution algorithms can improve the measuring precision slightly, and prove that under the background of image motion measurement, image super-resolution reconstruction method has the potential to apply to the actual measurement.

    摘要: This paper is focused on automatic detection and classification of diabetic retinopathy symptoms, more specifically on the bright lesions (soft and hard exudates) as one of the primary signs suitable for diabetic retinopathy screening. We use a convolutional neural network (CNN) for bright lesions detection and evaluate achieved results using criterion based on proper comparison of each lesion with ground truth images scored by the ophthalmologist. As input data we use original and geometrically transformed retinal images from Messidor database divided into smaller blocks. In that way we enlarge the training dataset and increase classification accuracy.
