  • Toward a new age of patient centricity? The application of eye-tracking to the development of connected self-injection systems

    摘要: Background: Increasing interest in digitally enhanced drug delivery tools urges industry and academia to rethink current approaches to product usability. This article introduces mobile eye-tracking, generating detailed contextual data about user engagement with connected self-injection systems as a new methodological approach to formative usability assessment. Methods: A longitudinal case study with a total of 35 injection-na?ve participants was conducted. In three consecutive experiments, eye-tracking was applied to formative usability testing of a novel connected self-injection device. Three eye-tracking derived usability indicators were established to assess product effectiveness, efficiency, and ease of use. Results: Analysis of the data revealed events of user hesitation, process interruption and unintended action, and these occurrences could either be completely eliminated or significantly reduced throughout the process. At the same time, the overall use duration decreased from 86.1 to 58.7 sec. Analysis revealed that product modifications successfully guided user attention to those interface elements most relevant during each task, thereby improving product ease-of-use. Conclusions: The step-wise improvement in the usability indicators demonstrates that iteratively applying eye-tracking methods effectively supports the user-centered design of connected self-injection systems. The results highlight how eye-tracking can be employed to gain an in-depth understanding of patient engagement with novel healthcare technologies.

    摘要: Based on the memory of the member of the committee of e-Business Engineering (ICEBE) and the eye-tracking technology, this paper explores the effect of online video advertising on memory and draws data from 100 tested subjects after watching several videos. The research shows that there is a correlation between eye-tracking data and memory and the eye movement model through the experiment.

  • CMOS image sensor for high speed and low latency eye tracking

    摘要: Eye tracking, or detecting where the user is looking at, is expected as a new type of user interfaces, with including the phenomenon of rapid eye movement, so called saccade. However, real-time tracking of saccade is difficult with the conventional image processing systems for their long processing time and latency against the speed of saccade. In this paper, we describe the design of the CMOS image sensor for eye tracking with high speed and low latency capability, as well as its evaluation results.

    摘要: It is proposed the implementation of a methodology for the analysis and classification of large volumes of records. It is studied and evaluated the application of DM as a tool to analysis qualitatively and quantitatively the register obtained by an eye movement tracking device, eye-tracking, when bring under to people with different levels of orthographic knowledge (OK: High, Medium and Low), in the face of two tasks; (i) detection of spelling error and (ii) in the detection of a simple character, in the brief exposure (1500 milliseconds) of words without and with misspelling. It used some analytical procedure series of DM such as: the search for response patterns; the creation of secondary variables; the use of classification of trees and grouping the data (k-means). New models were created as of the distance between the position of the spelling error and the position of the gaze of the participants. Differences in the visual attention were found between the participants; in the same way, it was observed that the misspelling influences the performance of the task (ii), diverting visual attention to spelling error, in the participants with High OK. It is concluded that the DM helps to find the particularities of eye movements from large volumes of data that generates eye-tracking, which cannot be analysed with simple procedures.

  • Real-time motorized electrical hospital bed control with eye-gaze tracking

    摘要: Patients with motor neuron disease and most terminal patients cannot use their hands or arms, and so they need another person for their all needs. However, the mental functions and memories of such patients are generally sound, and they can control their eyes. Using an eye-gaze tracking technique, we have realized a real-time system for such patients. The system controls a motorized electrical hospital bed (EHB) by eye gaze with 4 degrees of freedom, using a low-cost webcam. Contactless systems that require calibration cannot be used for EHB control. The system developed in this work does not require any calibration process and it is contactless. These properties are the most innovative part of the proposed approach. To begin, the system detects the eye region and computes the iris centers. It then tracks the centers and moves a mouse pointer on a screen with the eye gaze. The speci(cid:12)c movements of the mouse pointer are evaluated as position changing requests and the completed movements of the mouse pointer change the EHB position electrically. The communication between the computer and the EHB is provided by a relay control card driven by Arduino Mega. The system works under day/arti(cid:12)cial lighting conditions successfully with or without eyeglasses. The system was tested with 30 volunteers on the EHB safely and was completed with 90% success (the exceptions being people with slanted eyes).

    摘要: Gaze interaction is a computer access method that allows disabled people to control a computer with their eyes. Gaze interaction only requires the movement of the eye itself—the movement of other muscles is not required, making it a perfect solution those with rehabilitative disabilities (paralysis, spinal cord injury, repetitive strain injury, severe carpal tunnel) and/or motor disabilities. The paper describes a simple software application of a new assistive device (Tobii eyeX tracker) and its evaluation for communicating with disabled people based on gaze interaction. The proposed communication method is developed as a part of a more complex integrated system for assistance in communicating with and telemonitoring severe neuromotor disabled patients.

    摘要: Hands-free browsers provide an effective tool for Web interaction and accessibility, overcoming the need for conventional input sources. Current approaches to hands-free interaction are primarily categorized in either voice or gaze-based modality. In this work, we investigate how these two modalities could be integrated to provide a better hands-free experience for end-users. We demonstrate a multimodal browsing approach combining eye gaze and voice inputs for optimized interaction, and to suffice user preferences with unimodal benefits. The initial assessment with five participants indicates improved performance for the multimodal prototype in comparison to single modalities for hands-free Web browsing.

  • Detecting task demand via an eye tracking machine learning system

    摘要: Computerized systems play a significant role in today’s fast-paced digital economy. Because task demand is a major factor that influences how computerized systems are used to make decisions, identifying task demand automatically provides an opportunity for designing advanced decision support systems that can respond to user needs at a personalized level. A first step for designing such advanced decision tools is to investigate possibilities for developing automatic task load detectors. Grounded in decision making, eye tracking, and machine learning literature, we argue that task demand can be detected automatically, reliably, and unobtrusively using eye movements only. To investigate this possibility, we developed an eye tracking task load detection system and tested its effectiveness. Our results revealed that our task load detection system reliably predicted increased task demand from users’ eye movement data. These results and their implications for research and practice are discussed.

  • Dielectric Slab Air-Filled Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SAFSIW) Bandpass Filters

    摘要: The detection of vision problems in early childhood can prevent neurodevelopmental disorders such as amblyopia. However, accurate clinical assessment of visual function in young children is challenging. optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) is a re?exive sawtooth motion of the eye that occurs in response to drifting stimuli, that may allow for objective measurement of visual function in young children if appropriate child-friendly eye tracking techniques are available. In this paper, we present of?ine tools to detect the presence and direction of the optokinetic re?ex in children using consumer grade video equipment. Our methods are tested on video footage of children (N = 5 children and 20 trials) taken as they freely observed visual stimuli that induced horizontal OKN. Using results from an experienced observer as a baseline, we found the sensitivity and speci?city of our OKN detection method to be 89.13% and 98.54%, respectively, across all trials. Our OKN detection results also compared well (85%) with results obtained from a clinically trained assessor. In conclusion, our results suggest that OKN presence and direction can be measured objectively in children using consumer grade equipment, and readily implementable algorithms.

    摘要: In this research, we use eye tracking to monitor the attentional behavior of pilots in the cockpit. We built a cockpit monitoring database that serves as a reference for real-time assessment of the pilot’s monitoring strategies, based on numerous flight simulator sessions with eye-tracking recordings. Eye tracking may also be employed as a passive input for assistive system, future studies will also explore the possibility to adapt the notifications’ modality using gaze.
