[IEEE 2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Photonics (ICP) - Kuah (2018.4.9-2018.4.11)] 2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Photonics (ICP) - Passive Element Fault Analysis at the Last Mile of the FTTH Network in Malaysia
摘要: The optical transceiver performance for GPON FTTH (OLTTx and ONURx) for 300 live subscribers at legacy area has been monitored hourly for a duration of four months. The optical performance is then plotted against its faults due to the passive element at the last mile of the GPON FTTH network. The results show that the fault rate for aerial type of fiber distribution (FDP) is higher (1.3%) than building, street cabinet and underground FDP types. More than 65% of the faults are contributed by optical fibers (drop fibers) and the rest is due to fiber connectors. The optical power received (ONURx) spectrum shows three types of patterns before disconnection; sudden disconnection, fluctuation and degradation of ONURx. This study provides preliminary information necessary for developing the passive element fault prediction for GPON FTTH at the last mile of the network.

摘要: This paper discussed on a demonstration of XGS-PON and GPON co-existing in the same FTTH optical network distribution (ODN). A replication of an actual GPON FTTH ODN with two stages splitter (2:4 and 1:8) and GPON co-existed with XGS-PON system is assembled in the laboratory. The operation and performance measurement of both co-existing system is demonstrated by using two OLTs (XGS-PON and GPON), five XGS-PON and two GPON Optical Network Units (ONUs) sharing the same fiber distribution panel (FDP). ODN link loss, operating wavelengths and the throughput measurement of both systems are the performance parameters discussed in this paper. The results showed successful operation of XGS-PON and GPON in a co-existing environment.

摘要: A DWDM System consisting of transmitter, optical span and receiver is designed. The line coding technique NRZ (Non Return To Zero) has been used as the modulation schemes. The variation in the four wave mixing is analyzed with respect to the designed DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system. The DWDM is designed and simulated on Optisystem and their BER (Bit Error Rate) is calculated. The DWDM system is implemented in a FTTH (Fiber To The Home) system and simulated on Optisystem and their BER is calculated.

摘要: Optical fiber communication provides a large bandwidth with relatively small losses, so it becomes a solution to meet current communication needs. An application example of fiber optic networks is Fiber To The Home (FTTH), a fiber-optic network that directly connects to home subscribers. In this research, a prototype of an FO trainer (optical source and optical detector) was designed. An Arduino Nano hardware platform has been selected for implementation of FO trainer. The testing results of FO trainer has 1.04% error compared to the real data link FTTH and simulation results.

摘要: Optical fiber cable has been presented as a solution to high bandwidth demand. A bidirectional WDM-PON (wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network) with FTTx (fiber to the x, where x=home, hospital, business, school, mall, etc.) model has been presented with EDFA, WDM mux-demux splitter and APD photo detector for long haul transmission system and as a solution to last mile problem. The proposed model has been designed for 3 Gbps non-return to zero (NRZ) transmission system over 30 km long bidirectional optical fiber. The proposed model is applied on Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM). Further, it has also been compared with the existing reported work on the basis of quality factor, BER and eye diagrams. The proposed model enhances the performance in terms of bit error rate and quality factor at the downstream and upstream end of the systems.

LONG-REACH OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS (LR-OANS): A PROMISING CANDIDATE FOR FUTURE OPTICAL ACCESS
摘要: The ever-increasing demand for broader bandwidth per user, which results from the continuous development of new bandwidth-hungry services and applications, creates the motivation to upgrade the currently deployed Time-Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Networks (TDM-PONs) to Next-Generation Optical Access Networks (NG-OANs). Beside the need for more bandwidth per user, a further extension in the range and an increase in the split ratio are highly desirable in PONs. These additional requirements can be achieved by adopting so-called Long-Reach Optical Access Networks (LR-OANs). LR-OANs offer a promising solution that ensures a significant number of users can be supported over a longer range. Moreover, they introduce a cost-effective approach in which both the access and metro segments of the telecommunication network are combined into one backhaul segment, which results in the consolidation of many central offices into one trunk-exchange. This cost-effective approach gave us the motivation to provide a comprehensive survey on the LR-OANs. In this study, we first provide a brief review of different potential technologies, proposed for next-generation optical access. We then provide a review of different stat-of-the-art LR-OAN architectures including opportunities and challenges in each one. A comparison among them based on key network specification is also provided.
