  • Fast 3D image reconstruction by cuboids and 3D Charlier’s moments

    摘要: In this article, we propose a novel approach to accelerate the processing of 3D images by the discrete orthogonal moments of Charlier. The proposed approach is based on two fundamental notions: The first is the acceleration of the computing time of Charlier discrete orthogonal polynomials and moments in the case of the 3D image using digital filters. The second is the description of the 3D image by a set of cuboids of fixed size instead of individual voxels by decomposing the image by cuboids of small sizes to ensure numerical stability. By applying this method, the 3D Charlier moments are calculated from the cuboids instead of the whole image, as the image processing will be locally in each cuboid. This method allows us to speed up the computation time of the moments and to avoid the problem of propagation of digital errors encountered as well when using of digital filters for 3D images of large sizes. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of the computation time of the 3D moments of Charlier and in terms of quality of 3D image.

  • An Improved Optical Parameter Optimisation Approach Using Taguchi and Genetic algorithm for High Transmission Optical Filter Design

    摘要: High transmission optical filters require specific filter characteristics and set of optimisation methods since precision in output performance plays a vital role in such applications. In this paper, an improved genetic algorithm approach to optimise high transmission optical filter is described. High transmission of around 99% in the wavelength region of 525-575 nm without any dips in between is the main performance requirement desired. The optimisation parameters are layer thickness, refractive index and number of layers and design wavelength is 550 nm in visible region. The method integrates the Taguchi method and genetic algorithm. First, Taguchi method is used to reduce the number of design experiments and find the minimum possible number of optimised set of values that represents the quality performance of the system. Then, genetic algorithm is applied to search the optimal design parameters. The performance is determined in terms of transmittance. Three levels for each optimisation parameter were considered. The total number of design experiments to be performed (in worst case) using genetic algorithm only with three optimisation variables and three levels is approximately 33=27 for obtaining the best design that matches the desired performance whereas Taguchi integrated genetic method helped in finding the best matching design with 9 design experiments. The best transmission performance was obtained for 24 layers, with thickness range 10-123.75 nm and high and low refractive index of 2.1 and 1.38. This method is a very robust approach that can be used for design parameter optimisation of optical filters for high transmission applications.

  • Stacked Nanoporous Anodic Alumina Gradient-Index Filters with Tunable Multispectral Photonic Stopbands as Sensing Platforms

    摘要: This study presents the development and optical engineering of stacked nanoporous anodic alumina gradient-index (NAA-GIFs) filters with tunable multi-spectral photonic stopbands for sensing applications. The structure of these photonic crystal (PC) is formed by stacked layers of NAA produced with sinusoidally modified effective medium. The progressive modification of the sinusoidal period during the anodization process enables the generation and precise tuning of the characteristic photonic stopbands (PSB) (i.e. one per sinusoidal period in the anodization profile) of these PC structures. Four types of NAA-GIFs featuring three distinctive PSBs positioned within the visible spectral region are developed. The sensitivity of the effective medium of these NAA-GIFs is systematically assessed by measuring spectral shifts in the characteristic PSBs upon infiltration of their nanoporous structure with analytical solutions of D-glucose with several concentrations (0.025 – 1 M). This study provides new insights into the intrinsic relationship between the nanoporous architecture of these PCs and their optical properties, generating opportunities to fabricate advanced optical sensing systems for high-throughput and multiplexed detection of analytes in a single sensing platform.

    摘要: image processing procedure, Satellite images captured in a variety of modalities serve as the primary source for many applications. Satellite image processing extracts the image /spectral information represented in the form of pixels, classifies those pixels based on the similarity measures and further analyzes the inherent data, as per the requirements. The foremost objective of satellite processing is to automatically categorize the pixels in an image into the respective land cover class labels or themes. These pixels are classified by its spectral information and it is determined by the relative reflectance in various bands of wavelength. The accuracy and outcomes of any satellite the application domain, directly depends on its quality. Satellite images are invariably degraded by speckle noise. Hence, preprocessing the images for speckle noise suppression and/or cloud removal is deemed an inevitable component in satellite image processing. Researchers have proposed a spectrum of methods for speckle noise/cloud removal. A detailed review on the significant research publications on speckle noise removal are summarized in this article. The consolidation of methodology merits and demerits of the select research articles are presented in this paper.   • Development of a photocatalytic filter to control indoor air quality

    摘要: Background: The aim of this work was the development and characterization of a photocatalytic filter for the treatment of indoor air, characterized by a low pressure drop. Methods: The filter (photocatalytic filter) was based on a polyester substrate additivated with active carbon (Carbotex 150-6), treated with a sol of titanium dioxide (Sol 121-AB; NextMaterials Ltd.) and illuminated with UV LEDs to induce photocatalytic activity. Results: Tests showed that this filter, used in a suitable device for air circulation with a very low noise level, had the ability to block solid particulates, to photocatalytically oxidize a major fraction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and deactivate all of the bacteria blocked on the filter, in contrast to traditional commercial air filters on which the bacteria remain viable. Conclusions: Activated charcoal filters treated with TiO2 and illuminated by UV LEDs were found to be extremely effective in killing bacteria and effective in decreasing VOC and total suspended particulates (TSP).

  • Electromagnetic waves' self-focusing in metamaterials having both LHM and RHM behavior: an application to filter design

    摘要: Self-focusing, also known as Talbot’s effect had been widely studied by the scientific community. In this paper we show self-focusing as a coherence propagation phenomenon, in particular we studied self-focusing for a pulse propagating in a metamaterial with both behaviors: left handed material (LHM) and right handed material (RHM). These dual behaviors allow the construction of frequency filters in the range of frequency in which the metamaterial stops behaving as a LHM (negative refraction index) and begins an RHM behavior (positive refraction index). The coherence length (CL) for pulses propagating in these metamaterials seems to be larger when its frequencies are in the LHM region. Finally, we show that the cell’s size turns out to be critical in designing the filter, and as an example we present here four metamaterial cells.

    摘要: Analog filters for biomedical signal processing applications deals with very slow or low frequency electrical activities of the physiological signals. This paper proposes first order, second order, fifth order elliptic low pass, second order notch and high pass OTA-C filters using hybrid CMOS-CNFET technology. Carbon Nanotube Field Effect Transistors (CNFETs) and CMOS devises can be heterogeneously integrated on a single 3-D chip to realize important signal processing building blocks such as OTA-C filters. Proposed circuits use Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) as a building block for OTA-C filters. Realized filter circuits satisfy ultra-low power consumption requirement of wearable and implantable biomedical devices. The transistors used in the circuit operate in weak inversion to achieve ultra-low power consumption.

    摘要: Windmills have the characteristics of small area and small quantity in remote sensing images, so the traditional methods of object classification and recognition are not suitable for the recognition of windmills. In this paper, we analyzed the spectral information and shape characteristics of windmill, and proposed a technique of recognition windmills in remote sensing images based on SVM (support vector machines) and morphological attribute filters. The main idea of technique can be parted into two steps: the remote sensing image are divided into windmill and windmill-like areas, using morphological attribute filters to filter out the windmill-like areas. In addition, we have recognized the distributed windmills group in the images of four regions, and verify the accuracy of the recognition technique.

    摘要: In this paper, we show the electromagnetic design of a small patch antenna based on a molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) monolayer, with an area of only 22mm2, that exhibits high radiation efficiency and large tunability in microwaves at 10GHz thanks to a metal-insulator transition (MIT) induced by electrostatic gating. Furthermore, the MIT in MoS2 is used to reconfigure a tunable carbon nanotube-based filter, conferring it different functionalities: low-pass, high-pass and band-pass around 2GHz, while its carbon nanotube varactors allow tuning the cutoff frequency or central frequency.

    摘要: Discriminative correlation filters (DCFs) have drawn increasing interest in visual tracking. In particular, a few recent works treat DCFs as a special layer and adding it into a Siamese network for visual tracking. However, they adopt shallow networks to learn target representations, which lack robust semantic information in deeper layers and make these works fail to handle significant appearance changes. In this paper, we design a novel network to fuse multi-level convolutional features, each level of which characterize target from different perspectives. Then we integrate our network with the DCF layer to construct an end-to-end deep architecture for visual tracking. The overall architecture is trained end-to-end offline to adaptively learn target representations, which are not only enabled to encode high-level semantic features and low-level spatial detail features, but also closely related to correlation filters. Experiments show that our proposed tracker achieves superior performance against state-of the-art trackers.
