  • A delayed-feedback filter with negative group delay

    摘要: A filter with delay-induced negative group delay is presented. The filter consists of multiple time-delayed feedback terms, which lead to a negative group delay for frequencies in the baseband. It can be used for the real-time prediction of band-limited signals. The filter is universal as it does not rely on a specific model of the signal. Specifically, as long as the signal to be predicted is band-limited with a known cutoff frequency, the filter predicts the signal in real time up to a prediction horizon that depends on the cutoff frequency. How signal prediction arises from the negative group delay of the filter is worked out in detail. Its properties, including stability, are derived analytically and demonstrated by numerical simulations. For chaotic systems, the filter is predictive during phases of high predictability.

  • Tunable reflected group delay from the graphene/hBN heterostructure at infrared frequencies

    摘要: In this paper, we theoretically investigated the re?ected group delay from the graphene/hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) heterostructure in the infrared band. Since the signi?cant Lorentz resonance characteristic of the dielectric constant of hBN in the bands of near 7.28 μm and 12.72 μm, the new graphene/hBN heterostructure is used to realize ?exible switching of re?ected group delay by the Lorentz resonance mechanism. It is shown that the re?ected group delay can be e?ectively enhanced by tuning the Fermi energy or the number of graphene layers. Moreover, the re?ected group delay can be tuned positive or negative depending on the hBN thickness or incident angle. These results will be useful for design of graphene-based optical delay devices in the infrared band.

  • Dual-Band High <i>Q</i> -Factor Complementary Split-Ring Resonators Using Substrate Integrated Waveguide Method and Their Applications

    摘要: In modern microwave telecommunication systems, especially in low phase noise oscillators, there is a need for resonators with low insertion losses and high Q-factor. More specifically, it is of high interest to design resonators with high group delay. In this paper, three novel dual-band complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) featuring high group delay etched on the waveguide surface by using substrate integrated waveguides are investigated and proposed. They are designed for a frequency range of 4.5–5.5 GHz. Group delay rates for the first, second, and third resonators were approximated as much as 23 ns, 293 ns, and 90 ns, respectively. We also proposed a new practical method to develop a wide tuning range SIW CSRR cavity resonator with a small tuning voltage in the second resonator, which leads to about 19% and 1% of tuning frequency band in the first and second bands, respectively. Finally, some of their applications in the design of filter, diplexer, and low phase noise oscillator will be investigated.

    摘要: National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) is developing a reference inductance standard using air dielectric coaxial transmission lines that can be used beyond MHz. We report on the structure and traceability system of this reference inductance standard. NMIJ is also developing an inductance measurement method using group delay measurement. A 50 nH reference inductance standard was developed and the inductance measurement method using group delay verified.

  • [IEEE 2018 48th European Microwave Conference (EuMC) - Madrid, Spain (2018.9.23-2018.9.27)] 2018 48th European Microwave Conference (EuMC) - Arbitrary Terminated Coupler with Tunable Negative and Positive Group Delay Responses

    摘要: This paper presents a design of arbitrarily terminated coupler with tunable negative group delay (NGD) response and power division ratio. The proposed coupler provides tunable NGD through port 3 and 1 whereas positive group delay (PGD) through port 2 and 1. The analytical analysis shows that the power division ratio and NGD are controlled by a junction resistance of parasitic compensated PIN diode. Perfect matching and infinite isolation are obtained at the center frequency (f0). The proposed coupler is validated by fabricating circuit at f0 = 2.14 GHz. Measurement results are well agreed with simulated and predicted results. The experimental results show that NGD is varied from -0.2 to -1.3 ns with NGD fractional bandwidth (bandwidth of GD < 0) of 21.14 % to 15.88%.

The results show the group delay variation across multiple RF photonic channels can be significantly compensated with 96.2% reduction after the equalization.

  • A Group-Delay-Based Sensor Using Active EIT-Like Effect With Double Sensing Applications

    摘要: A high-sensitive microwave sensor based on the variation of group delay is presented in this paper. The sensor is designed by mimicking the concept of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The EIT-like effect that applied in the microwave circuit can provide a narrow transmission window in the stop band, which also brings ultraslow group velocity. Combined with the utilization of active resonator, the quality factor and group delay of the sensor are significantly enhanced. The active resonator is actualized by appending an active feedback loop that couples with the split-ring resonator of the EIT-like structure. The group delay of the active EIT-like sensor is particularly sensitive to the tiny phase variation of the active feedback loop, which is adopted to the high-performance sensing functions. The active EIT-like sensor with double sensing applications in this paper was fabricated and tested. The sensitivity of the proposed sensor is 0.012 pF/ns and 0.03 mV/ns, respectively.

  • Superluminal effect in a hybrid nano-electro-optomechanical system

    摘要: We theoretically investigate the phenomenon of superluminosity of the transmission probe field under the effect of a strong driving field in a hybrid nano-electro-optomechnical system comprising two coupled charged mechanical end resonators connected by bias voltages. The first mechanical charged mirror is connected to the optical field, while the second charged mirror is coupled by Coulomb coupling. We find that the superluminal behavior of the transmitted probe field can be switched by adjusting the cavity field detuning and atom field detuning. The present study extends the previously developed simple optomechanical and nano-electro-optomechanical system. Moreover, the group delay of the pulse advancement can be controlled by adjusting the electrostatic Coulomb coupling and the power of the driving field. We explain the effect of atomic field detuning on the superluminal behavior in the regimes of anti-Stokes sidebands, i.e., ?a=?ω1.

  • POWER DIVIDER BASED ON STEPPED-IMPEDANCE SLOTLINE

    摘要: A novel 180? out-of-phase power divider based on stepped-impedance slotline is presented in this article. This power divider employs one T-junction formed by microstrip line and slotline to obtain two out-of-phase dividing signals. Stepped-impedance slotline and lumped resistor are introduced to improve the isolation between output ports. The experimental data show that the proposed power divider has good performance on insertion loss, return losses, isolation, phase balance, as well as group delay over the wide band 5 GHz–10 GHz.
