  • Amplified spontaneous emission and random lasing using CsPbBr3 quantum dots glass through controlling crystallization

    摘要: By increasing the heat treatment temperature, the average size of CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) in the glass matrix was increased, which contribute to the 5.5 folds increase of the optical gain coefficients. And the corresponding lasing threshold can decrease from 0.752 mJ/cm2 to 0.138 mJ/cm2.

  • Nondestructive Evaluation of Thermal Aging in Al6061 Alloy by Measuring Acoustic Nonlinearity of Laser-Generated Surface Acoustic Waves

    摘要: The structures in high-temperature environments are prone to undergo hardening and embrittlement as a result of thermal aging; this can cause variations in their mechanical properties. Because these changes occur at the microstructural level, it is difficult to evaluate them through linear ultrasonic techniques. In this work, a surface acoustic wave (SAW) was used to measure and compare the acoustic nonlinearity and mechanical properties of Al6061 alloys heat-treated at 220°C for different durations (0 min, 20 min, 40 min, 1 h, 2 h, 10 h, 100 h, 1000 h). The SAW was generated by a pulsed laser and then received by an interferometer. Moreover, the yield strength, ultimate strength, and elongation to failure were measured by tensile tests. The results demonstrate that the critical variations in the mechanical properties can be detected by monitoring the variation features in the acoustic nonlinearity. Transmission electron microscopy images were captured to observe the microstructural changes, which shows that the acoustic nonlinearity varied according to the change in the precipitation phase. This supports the acoustic nonlinearity measurement using the laser-generated SAW being an effective technique for the fully noncontact nondestructive evaluation of material degradations as well as changes in mechanical properties.

  • Research on Laser-TIG Hybrid Welding of 6061-T6 Aluminum Alloys Joint and Post Heat Treatment

    摘要: The 6061-T6 aluminum (Al) alloys was joined by the laser induced tungsten inert gas (TIG) hybrid welding technique. It mainly studied the influences of welding parameters, solution, and aging (STA) treatment on the microstructure and tensile properties of Al alloy hybrid welding joints. Microstructures of the joints were also analyzed by optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Results showed that the laser induced arc hybrid welding source changed the microstructure of the fusion zone and heat effect zone. STA treatment effectively improved the mechanical properties of the softening area in the hybrid welding joint, whose values of the tensile strength and elongation were on average 286 MPa and 20.5%. The distribution of the reinforcement phases and dislocations distributed were more uniform, which improved the property of STA treated joint.

  • Hardening Effects of In-Situ Aging for a Laser Welded Maraging Steel

    摘要: Maraging steels are ultra-high strength alloys which have been successfully laser welded to obtain structural components. For most of the applications these steels are in an aged state to attain tensile strength up to 1.5 GPa, although welding induces local softening due to dissolution of precipitates. This paper aims to investigate the effect of in-situ aging of the maraging steel plates after laser welding to reduce the local softening. For a preheating at 40°C, just below the martensite finish line, the hardness of the Fusion Zone (FZ) attained between 440 and 490 HV and the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) attained a maximum of 570 HV compared to 300 HV of the Base Material (BM) for aging temperatures between 450°C and 520°C and periods between 10 and 30 min. The intercritical aging (570°C/1 h) also promoted an increase in local hardness of FZ 320 HV and HAZ 400 HV. Using an intercritical aging, the hardness situated between room temperature and quenched and aged coupons and was more homogeneous considering FZ, HAZ and BM. The microstructure of the intercritical aged welds is marked by duplex-ferrite and martensite micro-constituents.

  • Influence of heat treatment temperature on the microstructural, mechanical, and wear behavior of 316L stainless steel fabricated by laser powder bed additive manufacturing

    摘要: A metal component fabricated by additive manufacturing (AM) is generally required to be heat treated to enhance microstructural and mechanical aspects. This present study aims to contribute to the literature in understanding the effect of heat treatment and various heat treatment temperatures on as-built components fabricated by AM. In this study, various heat treatment temperatures were applied to 316L stainless steel specimens produced by selective laser melting (SLM) and the effects on the microstructure, microhardness, XRD response, porosity, and wear behavior were investigated. The microhardness, XRD, and wear response of SLM 316L were compared with those of wrought 316L. The results illustrate that the heat treatment temperature has a substantial effect on the evolution of microstructure, XRD response, and porosity. Our results also support the argument that the effect of porosity on wear behavior is more dominant than the effect on microhardness. It should also be noted that the wrought 316L stainless steel specimen shows much better wear resistance than SLM 316L specimen.

  • A Study on Transparent Electrode Properties of Indium Tin Oxide Thin Films Deposited From Recycled Target

    摘要: In this study, we investigated the transparent electrode and mechanical properties of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin ?lms deposited from recycled targets of In2O3 (90 wt %) and SnO3 (10 wt %). We also evaluated the effect of their heat treatment at different temperatures. The ITO thin ?lm deposited on the glass substrate at ambient temperature exhibited microcrystallization characteristics in which the amorphous state was incorporated. When the annealing temperature was over 200 (cid:1)C, the ITO thin ?lm showed stable transparent electrode characteristics with a sheet resistance value of 7.2 Ω/sq and high transmittance of more than 85% in the visible light region through recovery and recrystallization. Under compressive stress, the ITO thin ?lm exhibited stable elastic modulus and hardness values of more than 110 GPa and 6.0 GPa, respectively. It is anticipated that these outcomes will meet the electrical, optical, and mechanical property requirements for commercial ITO transparent electrodes.

  • POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT OF NiTinol SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY USING LASER POWER SOURCE

    摘要: In this work, attempt is made to carry out post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on NiTinol samples using laser power source. Initially, 1 mm thick NiTinol sheets were welded in butt joint position using Ytterbium: Yttrium aluminum garnet (Yb: YAG) laser power source. Laser welding was carried out in continuous mode, and the quality of the weld was assessed with respect to phase transformation temperatures, microhardness, tensile strength, and corrosion resistance. To improve the quality of the welded samples, PWHT was done by passing a laser beam over the welded samples. It was found that PWHT had a significant effect on the phase transformation temperatures, microhardness, tensile strength and corrosion behavior of the welded NiTinol joints.

  • Residual stress in laser cladded heavy-haul rails investigated by neutron diffraction

    摘要: Residual stress is one of the critical parameters affecting the fatigue behaviour of tribological components, which can be introduced by a thermo-mechanical process such as laser cladding. In this study, the residual stress distribution of laser cladded rails was evaluated using a neutron diffraction technique. The substrate rail for the laser cladding was hypereutectoid rail steel used in Australian heavy-haul railway track, and the cladding materials were 410L (a low carbon content stainless steel alloy) and Stellite 6 (a Co-based alloy). The cladding materials were selected based on their high wear, corrosion and fatigue resistance properties. This study measured the residual stress in full-scale laser cladded rails where the residual stresses were measured in the cladding layer, heat affected zone (HAZ) and substrate zone of the railhead. A new sample preparation strategy was developed to quantify the residual stresses in the full-scale rails with high spatial resolution. Higher compressive residual stress was found in the cladding layer, which may have resulted from the martensitic transformation occurred in that region. Tensile stresses occurred in the HAZ to a depth of 4 mm, which might be mainly caused by thermal contraction and volumetric change in the microstructure. The addition of a second cladding layer did not significantly affect the magnitude of the residual stresses, but the peak tensile residual stress shifted to a deeper location from the surface, which is beneficial in resisting wear. Post-cladding heat treatment significantly reduced the undesirable high residual stress from the cladding layer and HAZ.

  • Hybrid Process of Laser Heat Treatment and Forming of Thin Plate with a Small Power Semiconductor Laser

    摘要: In recent years, the recycling of resources has become important because of the aggravation of global environmental concerns. In light of this, it is necessary to minimize the resource needs of current production systems. This concept is called sustainable development. When this concept is applied to machine tools, the assumption is that small parts should be processed using small machines. Additionally, the diversification of consumer needs and the ephemeralization of product life cycles are progressing in industry. As a result, the overall production system has changed from high-mix low-volume production manufacturing, to variant types in variable quantity. In this background, the cell production system is receiving attention as a production system that can achieve variant types in variable quantity. The cell production system also requires miniaturization and process consolidation of machine tools, which has given rise to the need to consolidate heat treatments, especially as part of the process consolidation of machine tools. Laser beams have proved to be effective heat sources when integrated into heat-treatment processes, such as quenching and tempering on machine tool tables. On the other hand, In the case of the thin plate, it is well known that the deformation of a plate occurs due to laser irradiation, as named a laser forming. The laser forming is also effective to generate the complex shape without a press die set. Thus, we propose that the hybrid process of laser heat treatment and forming of thin plate with a small power semiconductor laser, and demonstrate that the proposed method makes it feasible to generate the hardened sheet metal products with a compact machine tools. Moreover, considering the power consumption in laser quenching and forming process, we investigate an appropriate laser irradiation condition from a view of reducing the environmental burden.
