    摘要: With the applications heterogeneous of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the heterogeneous IoT systems generate a large number of heterogeneous datas, including videos and images. How to efficiently represent these images is an important and challenging task. As a local descriptor, the texton analysis has attracted wide attentions in the field of image processing. A variety of texton-based methods have been proposed in the past few years, which have achieved excellent performance. But, there still exists some problems to be solved, especially, it is difficult to describe the images with complex scenes from IoT. To address this problem, this paper proposes a multi-feature representation method called diagonal structure descriptor. It is more suitable for intermediate feature extraction and conducive to multi-feature fusion. Based on visual attention mechanism, five kinds of diagonal structure textons are defined by the color differences of diagonal pixels. Then, four types of visual features are extracted from the mapping sub-graphs and integrated into 1-D vector. Various experiments on three Corel-datasets demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than several state-of-the-art methods.

  • Photovoltaic Agricultural Internet of Things Towards Realizing the Next Generation of Smart Farming

    摘要: Serious challenges for to drive agricultural sustainability combined with climate crisis issues have induced an urgent need to decarbonise agriculture. In this paper, we brie?y introduce a novel concept of the Photovoltaic Agricultural Internet of Things (PAIoT). This system approach fuses agricultural production with renewable power generation and control via an IoT platform. We discuss PAIoT applications and potential to realize the next generation of smart farming. In addition, we provide a review of key issues on the feasibility of PAIoT and further propose novel techniques to mitigate these key issues.

  • Designing Antennas for RFID Sensors in Monitoring Parameters of Photovoltaic Panels

    摘要: The importance of the radio-frequency identi?cation (RFID) technology and photovoltaic (PV) systems has been growing systematically in the modern world full of intelligent products connected to the Internet. Monitoring parameters of green energy plants is a crucial issue for e?cient conversion of solar radiation, and cheap RFID transponders/sensors can be involved in this process to provide better performance of module supervision in scattered installations. Since many components of PV panels disturb the radio-wave propagation, research in the antenna scope has to be carried out to reach the proposed fusion. The problem with RFID transponders being detuned in close proximity to glass or metal surfaces can be solved on the basis of solutions known from the scienti?c literature. The authors went further, revealing a new antenna construction that can be fabricated straight on a cover glass of the PV panels. To achieve the established task, they incorporated advantages from the latest advancements in materials technology and low-power electronics and from the progress in understanding radio-wave propagation phenomena. The numerical model of the antenna was elaborated in the Hyper Lynx 3D EM software environment, and test samples were fabricated on the technology line of ML System Company. The convergence of calculated and measured antenna parameters con?rms the design correctness. Thus, the studied antenna can be used to elaborate the cheap semipassive RFID transponders/sensors in the PV panel production lines.

  • A novel method based on optofluidic lensless-holography for detecting the composition of oil droplets

    摘要: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a prominent fundamental technology of the Internet of Things (IoTs). Rather than device-to-device communications, group communications in the form of broadcasting and multicasting incur efficient message deliveries among resource-constrained sensor nodes in the IoT-enabled WSNs. Secure and efficient key management is in many cases used to protect the authenticity, integrity, and confidentiality of multicast messages. This paper develops two group key establishment protocols for secure multicast communications among the resource-constrained devices in IoT. Major deployment conditions and requirements of each protocol are described in terms of the specific IoT application scenarios. Furthermore, the applicability of the two protocols is analyzed and justified by a comprehensive analysis of the performance, scalability, and security of the protocols proposed.

    摘要: The analysis presented in this paper indicates that the FM radio spectrum is underutilized in the areas of the continental United States that have a population of 100 000 or less. These locations have vacant FM radio spectrum of at least 13 MHz with suf?cient spectrum spacing between adjacent FM radio channels. The spectrum spacing provides the required bandwidth for data transmission and provides enough bandwidth to minimize interference introduced by neighboring predicted and unpredicted FM radio stations and other low-power short-range Internet of Thing (IoT) devices. To ensure that low-power short-range IoT devices maintain reliable communications vacant radio spectrum, such as the FM radio spectrum in these areas, will need to be used through cognitive radio.

  • Visible light communication with efficient far-red/near-infrared polymer light-emitting diodes

    摘要: Visible light communication (VLC) is a wireless technology that relies on optical intensity modulation and is potentially a game changer for internet-of-things (IoT) connectivity. However, VLC is hindered by the low penetration depth of visible light in non-transparent media. One solution is to extend operation into the “nearly (in)visible” near-infrared (NIR, 700–1000 nm) region, thus also enabling VLC in photonic bio-applications, considering the biological tissue NIR semitransparency, while conveniently retaining vestigial red emission to help check the link operativity by simple eye inspection. Here, we report new far-red/NIR organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a 650–800 nm emission range and external quantum efficiencies among the highest reported in this spectral range (>2.7%, with maximum radiance and luminance of 3.5 mW/cm2 and 260 cd/m2, respectively). With these OLEDs, we then demonstrate a “real-time” VLC setup achieving a data rate of 2.2 Mb/s, which satisfies the requirements for IoT and biosensing applications. These are the highest rates ever reported for an online unequalised VLC link based on solution-processed OLEDs.

  • Secure Smart Cameras by Aggregate-Signcryption with Decryption Fairness for Multi-Receiver IoT Applications

    摘要: Smart cameras are key sensors in Internet of Things (IoT) applications and often capture highly sensitive information. Therefore, security and privacy protection is a key concern. This paper introduces a lightweight security approach for smart camera IoT applications based on elliptic-curve (EC) signcryption that performs data signing and encryption in a single step. We deploy signcryption to efficiently protect sensitive data onboard the cameras and secure the data transfer from multiple cameras to multiple monitoring devices. Our multi-sender/multi-receiver approach provides integrity, authenticity, and confidentiality of data with decryption fairness for multiple receivers throughout the entire lifetime of the data. It further provides public verifiability and forward secrecy of data. Our certificateless multi-receiver aggregate-signcryption protection has been implemented for a smart camera IoT scenario, and the runtime and communication effort has been compared with single-sender/single-receiver and multi-sender/single-receiver setups.

    摘要: Advances in wireless communication technologies for monitoring and control systems have paved the way for a new method of farming known as smart farming. Smart farming can be achieved through the use of Precision Agriculture (PA) which involves using novel technology along with inch-scale devices to monitor crops and provide precise treatments when required. Smart PA is able to take traditional farming practices and apply technological advances from areas such as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to assist in increasing the output yield of a crop while improving efficiency and reducing the amount of stress placed on a farmer. In this paper, a solar-powered smart agricultural monitoring system with IoT devices is presented. Solar-powered prototype nodes were designed to measure environmental conditions in a field and report to a base station for data storage and further processing. Two prototypes were compared in identifying the advantages gained when using energy harvesting in a device. Using an experimental testbed, a proof of concept of how the system would function is presented. According to experimental results, using an energy harvesting device can provide an increased lifetime for a device by supplying power and recharging its battery.
