    摘要: Smart cameras are considered as key sensors in Internet of Things (IoT) applications ranging from home to city scales. Since these cameras often capture highly sensitive information, security is a major concern. An elliptic curve (EC) based signcryption achieves resource-ef?ciency by performing data encryption and signing in a single step. In this work, we present aggregate-signcryption which extends the EC-based signcryption approach to a cluster-based multi-camera setup. The signcrypted data from the smart cameras within a cluster is aggregated on a speci?c node called cluster head. Aggregate-signcryption reduces the communication overhead and requires fewer steps for the unsigncryption as compared to individual signcryption.

  • Reflecting health: smart mirrors for personalized medicine

    摘要: Inexpensive embedded computing and the related Internet of Things technologies enable the recent development of smart products that can respond to human needs and improve everyday tasks in an attempt to make traditional environments more “intelligent”. Several projects have augmented mirrors for a range of smarter applications in automobiles and homes. The opportunity to apply smart mirror technology to healthcare to predict and to monitor aspects of health and disease is a natural but mostly underdeveloped idea. We envision that smart mirrors comprising a combination of intelligent hardware and software could identify subtle, yet clinically relevant changes in physique and appearance. Similarly, a smart mirror could record and evaluate body position and motion to identify posture and movement issues, as well as offer feedback for corrective actions. Successful development and implementation of smart mirrors for healthcare applications will require overcoming new challenges in engineering, machine learning, computer vision, and biomedical research. This paper examines the potential uses of smart mirrors in healthcare and explores how this technology might bene?t users in various medical environments. We also provide a brief description of the state-of-the-art, including a functional prototype concept developed by our group, and highlight the directions to make this device more mainstream in health-related applications.

    摘要: In recent years the availability of mobile indoor way finding technologies, Internet-of-Things sensor infrastructures, and geographic information systems has dramatically increased. These systems have been introduced for many reasons, such as: increasing accessibility to users with reduced mobility, optimizing logistics, or reducing the environmental impact of facilities. While these technologies can bring some new insight in how buildings are used, they all suffer from limitations in coverage, accuracy, or scalability. However, when they are combined, a new window into the understanding of human mobility and building utilization is opened. This paper introduces methods to increase accuracy of data obtained from an off-the-shelf commercial indoor navigation by including Internet of Things (IoT) sensor infrastructure and geographic information through a Geometric Constraint Model (GCM). Furthermore, a Mobility Graph (MG) is introduced to visualize trajectory distributions. A simple experiment was conducted to validate the methods. For this, a long narrow hall was equipped with iBeacon infrastructure, an indoo.rs Navigation instance, and a few cheap Raspberry Pi based sensor stations. The environment was mapped using state-of-art geodetic measurements, and a set of recorded experiments were made. In such a long and narrow environment the indoor navigation system is unable to resolve features along the short traverse axis. Without a combined analysis, a divider in the environment is not discernible in the MG, while results using the GCM introduced in this paper clearly indicate the presence of this divider. Automating this approach, can bring indoor location analytics from a descriptive to a prescriptive regime. Furthermore, the application of MG provide a useful tool to better understand large indoor navigation data sets.

However, wireless solutions offered by IoT applications has decreased the investment costs and brought easy, do it yourself solutions. In parallel to this, smart LED light sources and lighting control infrastructure have also been developed. In this study, it’s aimed to investigate the latest technological developments in Internet of Things, smart LED lamps and control systems and application areas in residential lighting with regard to new communication protocols and standards. It is also aimed to investigate energy saving opportunities by smart LED lamps in comparison to incandescent lamps, CFLs and LEDs.

    摘要: Heart-related diseases are the leading cause of mortality around the world. There is a substantial need for continuous monitoring of cardiac values as they are a very significant index of one’s health. Conventional methods of measuring heart rate, spo2, and blood pressure values are laborious, prone to errors and usually requires the presence of a physician. This makes nocturnal monitoring impossible. In this project, we offer a modern day, embedded Systems & IoT based solution for continuous and non-invasive measuring of the cardiac values using an upcoming technology known as pulse-oximetry. This technology uses a medical sensor creating a photoplethsmogram from which we can detect the oxygen saturation level and variations in blood volume in the tissues. This analog waveform is further processed using hardware filters to obtain heart rate and Sp02 values. These values are digitized using the A2D converters in the ATmega32 based SoC and are constantly stored and uploaded to the cloud. In case the cardiac values are found to deviate away from the set thresholds, an automated emergency alert system is triggered which uses GSM for automated SOS calls, GPS to track the patient's location and GPRS to make the system truly mobile and wireless. Also, a patient can self-trigger the same alert system by using Google voice assistant on their smart-phone. The end goal of this project is to make a wearable cardiac monitoring and alert system which can be generic or patient specific and help reduce heart-related accidents.

  • A Smart Sensor Data Transmission Technique for Logistics and Intelligent Transportation Systems

    摘要: When it comes to Internet of Things systems that include both a logistics system and an intelligent transportation system, a smart sensor is one of the key elements to collect useful information whenever and wherever necessary. This study proposes the Smart Sensor Node Group Management Medium Access Control Scheme designed to group smart sensor devices and collect data from them efficiently. The proposed scheme performs grouping of portable sensor devices connected to a system depending on the distance from the sink node and transmits data by setting different buffer thresholds to each group. This method reduces energy consumption of sensor devices located near the sink node and enhances the IoT system’s general energy efficiency. When a sensor device is moved and, thus, becomes unable to transmit data, it is allocated to a new group so that it can continue transmitting data to the sink node.

    摘要: In this paper a low-cost solution applicable in the field of continuous monitoring of critical equipment in industry and smart homes is described. It employs a relatively new IR array sensor MLX90621 and implements the IoT concept and three-layer architecture. The implementation of this IoT solution is based on an open source hardware microcontroller development board PIC32-T795 and wireless MOD Wi-Fi ESP8266 module. It is considered to be with reasonable cost and affordable for the potential users. The paper demonstrates the benefits of having an inexpensive infrared sensor as a part of the developed solution for continuous monitoring of critical equipment for overheating.

    摘要: Lighting contributes a sizeable share to energy wastage globally and so development of Internet of Things based smart lighting system is on the rise. The prevalent ambient smart lighting systems see limited use since they have not been developed with a generic perspective to be installed everywhere. This has not yet been possible because there are a lot of variable and static parameters involved in the functioning of the smart lighting system. Moreover there is a trade-off between user comfort and energy savings which the current systems have not realised. In this paper a new algorithm is proposed which considers the factor of user comfort which enables the resulting system to understand the user’s requirements. There are also various parameters such as Light Re?ectance Value, weather, average natural light etc. which affect illumination. In this paper a new smart lighting system is proposed which works intelligently by considering these parameters.

  • Nanotechnology-Empowered Flexible Printed Wireless Electronics

    摘要: In this article, the particular importance of nanotechnology-enabled materials associated with additive manufacturing techniques for the realization of radio-frequency (RF) components and modules for Internet of Things (IoT) and millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications is discussed. First, a look into the preparation of functional nanomaterial inks for chemical sensing applications and the surface modification processes required for their excellent printability is provided. The focus then shifts toward numerous applications realized through the implementation of the previously listed techniques. These applications discuss origami [morphing/four-dimensional (4-D)-printed] structures, taking advantage of the unique benefits of bending and folding on the printed conductive nanomaterials-based traces on a paper substrate for the fabrication of foldable reconfigurable RF architectures. Then, the synergistic integration of inkjet-printed carbon-based nanomaterials sensors with ultrahigh performance flexible printed antenna structures—utilizing nanoparticles—for the Internet of skins, smart cities, and fifth-generation (5G) applications is described. We then demonstrate the critical importance of nanomaterial-based inks in the development of robust three-dimensional (3-D)-printed RF interconnects with groundbreaking performance, opening the door for the next generation of electronics manufacturing and packaging on virtually every substrate up to frequencies in the sub-THz range.
